Despite his height and slender frame, Kori'än has a weak
presence ― his movements are composed, quiet and soft, he
speaks in almost whispers, with a low and flat tone, and the
mixed-blood seems to occupy way less space than he truly does. If not for the greyish-blue lines that criss-cross his pale skin, and the white, pupilless eyes, Kori'än would be barely noticed or acknowledged by most. As it is, however, those features draw the eyes of those not used to the Eidisi. His hair is black and straight, kept short so he won't have to spend too long tidying it up. While not as noticeable as the marks on his skin, part of his heritage also shows on his elongated, thin fingers.

On the left side of his neck, 'Vurya' is tattooed in Avrielian Script.

Kori's choice of clothes is hardly remarkable. He tends to favour muted and plain colours like blacks, browns and whites, and comfortable and practical clothes. If it does its job, it's good enough for him. Kori runs away from most accessories, and the only thing he constantly wears is a necklace he keeps hidden beneath his shirt. Despite all this, Kori doesn't actually dislike more flashy or elaborate clothes ― he only doesn't see the need to put too much effort into such a thing. He also tries to keep the numerous scars on his body covered up as much as possible. Most of his scars are poorly healed scratches and cuts that are not too jarring. However, there are three noticeable and bumpy scars on his chest, and a crescent bite scar on his shoulder.

Personality
-
Deep inside, there's a driving force that guides Kori'än's actions ― the thirst for knowledge. For all his rationality, though, he's still unsure about what he truly wants. He's disconnected with his own emotions, dismissing them as unimportant and intrusive, and although he can be attuned to the feelings of those around him, he often thinks of sentimentality as a weakness. That, however, keeps him from learning about himself, and, consequentially, Kori feels like his search for knowledge is aimless, without a practical end goal. He's almost apathetic to the world around him, sometimes acting with cold ruthlessness, with little remorse or guilt following his actions. Still, there's a clear distinction about how he feels towards the people he cares about ― Kori will do anything for the ones he considers his friends, and will often put them first before himself. However, due to being so unused to show any kind of love or care, he struggles to express this, preferring to do practical and concrete actions and becoming lost if people don't understand how he feels towards them.

There's a seemingly innate desire to connect with the world and the people around him, however, a conflicting feeling that often confuses him. His way to do so is through understanding, doing his best to figure out not only how the world works, but also how people act and feel. Due to the almost clinical and scientific nature of his pursuits, however, Kori still struggles to form real connections. The tendency to rely only on himself causes him to appear arrogant at times, dismissing opinions he cannot understand as lesser than his own beliefs, and turning extremely combative when required to accept something without comprehending it first, or when he feels he's forced to do something only because it's expected of him, without a logical reason behind it. As such, Kori struggles to accept social norms and customs that don't have a practical reason to exist, and his relationship with authority figures and more incisive people can be rocky at first.

Still, he's intelligent and always ready to learn, turning out to be a great listener when others care enough to explain and have patience with him. When Kori feels comfortable with someone ― although this is admittedly rare ― or he feels people are willing to listen and learn, he has endless patience to teach, doesn't mind questions, and even appreciates a good discussion that brings new information or line of questioning to the table. Likewise, however, when faced with people who are as arrogant and stubborn as him, Kori will quickly lose his cool. He rarely lashes out, though, appearing to remain calm.

History

[childhood]
Born in the northern city of Viden, Kori'än's very first memory is one of cold and whiteness. He doesn't remember his birthplace, but he remembers the piercing winds, and his mother's arms around him, keeping him close to her and as warm as possible. He vaguely remembers the area near the city, with its mountains and the dark, damp caves that protected them from the dangerous winds, but he also remembers the walls made of stone that seemed to close in around them and trap them inside. In truth, precise memories of those earlier trials escape him, but there's a nagging feeling of danger and confusion every time he tries to focus on that time. Kori doesn't know how long they spend between the mountains, his mother leaving him behind for hours at a time, only to return with a meagre dinner that barely seemed to keep them going. Sometimes, it would take a whole trial for her to return, but he would stay there, waiting for her. And, eventually, she always came back.

The first moments of childhood he clearly remembers are the ones of hunting in a forest, running around barefoot after his mother, her smile wide and free. Most of his childhood was spent in the wild with her, learning how to build shelters that would protect them for the night, finding trails of their next meal, walking through the forest without any real destination in mind, and avoiding or fighting off the dangers around them. It wasn't easy, not really, as his mother sometimes struggled to provide for both of them. They would stumble upon one city or another ― Rharne, Cahryst, Korlasir, Volanta, Yaralon ―, and, at first, Kori'än thought that it was just random occasions. As he grew older, however, he began to wonder if there wasn't an intention behind it ― they always took refuge in a city when it got too cold, or too hard to find some food, or when one of them got hurt. Regardless of intention, they would stay for a while, walking around, living the city life, but without fail, either Kori or his mom would miss the freedom of the wild and leave. It wasn't that either of them hated the cities ― sometimes, they would even stay around one, visiting with some frequency, but the wild was Kori's home, and he felt more comfortable surrounded by trees and birds than by people.

His mom took care of his education, teaching him how to write and read, making sure he knew of the plants around him and telling him about her own home, the Immortal, the tales and customs of her people. The only thing she would always refuse would be to talk about Kori's father. He never knew why, but, eventually, he simply stopped asking about it.

What he did ask, though, was about the sea. Instead of giving him a simple answer, his mother took him to Yalaron and said they'd cross the sea and go home. Kori still remembers clearly how much that confused him ― with how his mom spoke of Desnind, he was sure the city had disappeared long ago. Still, he didn't complain, wanting to see the place and the people his mom always spoke so highly of. They took a ship to Desnind, and during most of the trip, Kori would run around the deck, asking about how things worked, about a bird or another they could see flying in the sky, or just about the sea.

One trial, however, a storm approached, the biggest one Kori had ever seen in his life. The crew did its best, but after a long and tiring struggle, the ship crashed ― thankfully, near the land, so both Kori and his mom survived, although stranded from the rest of the crew.

[adolescence]
It took a couple of trials for them to recover enough to search for any kind of more permanent shelter. While they were in an unknown place, both of them had lived for most of twelve arcs in the wild, and this was hardly any different. While Kori could see his mom was disappointed about the travel home being delayed, she tried to keep that most for herself, and they began to follow the shores, searching for a city, or something, anything, that could lead them in the right direction.

Eventually, they got to Athart. And that was when everything changed. They were intercepted by an Avriel man named Vurya, and although they tried to fight, both of them ended up being instantly bested. No explanation was offered, and they were simply taken towards the city. And, just like that, they became slaves.

It took so long for Kori to even understand his new situation ― suddenly, he wasn't free anymore, trapped within a house he couldn't leave, forced to do chores he never quite learned about. The cooking was different, the cleaning was different, everything was different, and for most of the time, Vurya simply refused to give them any clear instructions, or even communicate with them. His confusion led to anger, and anger led him to lash out. The punishment that resulted from that event was one that became forever engraved in his mind.

Little by little, both he and his mom became to learn how to navigate their new life. Kori never quite accepted their situation, and the calmness and understanding his mother showed was a source of constant fights and disagreements between them during this period. He would constantly try to escape, drawing all sorts of creative punishments from their master, but never to the point of death ― it seemed like Vurya enjoyed to see him struggle, trying to unlock the shackles without success. While his childhood had been one of complete freedom, his adolescence became one of entrapment. The nightmares and scars acquired would follow him for arcs to come.

Then, once again, everything changed ― his mom became pregnant.

At first, Kori was beyond himself with anger, not understanding how his mom could love the unborn baby when it was the symbol of such suffering. She was, however, still his mom, and when she begged him to run away with the baby, so they wouldn't be killed, he couldn't refuse. And so, one night, he helped his mom deliver his new baby brother, cradled him in his arms, and just ran, leaving his mother and the only person he had actually loved in his life behind. She managed to buy him enough time that he could sneak into one of the ships at Athart's docks, and he could barely believe that they were, in fact, leaving the city.

It was impossible for them to remain hidden within the ship, however, and before long — just as soon as they left Athart's shore, in fact —, two crew members found them. Fortunately, they took pity on the two boys and allowed them to stay, as long as Kori'än worked around the ship. Jorim, the crew's cook, was pregnant and helped Kori'än take care of Aokan.

The ship took them to Volta, a small town near Rharne. Not feeling like he could provide for Aokan in the same way their mother had done, Kori'än decided to stay in the city until the boy was older. Kori's distrust of everyone around him kept them mostly isolated in the city, going out only to work and when extremely necessary. It came to a point, however, when Aokan was starting to grow and become restless. Kori knew that the time to leave had come and, perhaps, they could visit Desnind and meet the birthplace of their mother.

[adulthood]
Kori'än was twenty-five arcs old when his baby brother completed eight and they were ready to leave Volta. Everything was ready when Aokan brought Laneey to their home. The girl was smaller and thinner than any other of her age, and it was clear she had been living by herself in the streets. Kori was reluctant to take her with them and would prefer not to welcome an unknown Aukari into their family, as he still barely thought of Aokan as his brother. However, for the first time in their life, Aokan refused to back down, and, in the end, Kori'än just gave up, taking the girl with them. Once they arrived at the port, however, Kori felt like he couldn't make the trip to Desnind ― not yet. Not wanting to completely back down, however, he took the first ship to another location they could find and the trio made their way to Scalvoris.

Faith

Faith

Kori'än believes that Immortals are part of the nature of Idalos ― they are what they are, their influence is real, and there's little that can be done about it. While he's still struggling to understand their exact nature, he firmly maintains that killing or destroying the Immortals ― or even just one of them ― will upset the balance of the world, turning it into something completely different, something they can't predict. They are something else, not really mortal, but also not completely alien.

He'll do his best to follow the guidance of those Immortals he truly respects, although Kori'än doesn't really pay attention to specific rituals or offerings, preferring to worship through action. His devotion is of a particular, internal struggle to become someone that can embody the domains of those Immortals than of actively trying to earn their respect and admiration.

Aokan and Laneey's room
. It has two simple beds, and two chests where they can place their clothes, but little else.

The third door is
Kori's room
, also with a bed and a chest.

The fourth, final door leads to the outside, to an empty space before the wall of Scavoris.
