Egilrun Tannery Works (Formerly the Slave Market)
Mercifully placed in such a way that it is downwind of many of the more desirable areas of Egilrun, the filthy refuse leftover from the Tannery Works is discretely piloted out to sea, aboard large refuse rafts and barges, while the odor is blown on the winds in much the same direction.
The works themselves require someone of strong constitution to even bear to get within sniffing distance. Others have to make do with perfumed rags, or some other form of personal protection from the stench.
However, for those who brave the Leatherworks, the products produced from it are among the most coveted and valued in society. Leather is a great commodity, after all, used in so many functions in everyday life, that one could almost be forgiven for taking the work done here for granted.
Nevertheless, Mudge Tanner plies his trade tirelessly, lording over his apprentices and employees with a fist of pig-iron, and a glare of brimstone. The finest leatherworks flow from this area, to be sold elsewhere on the island for an exorbitant mark-up. One who meets Mudge quickly learns why they are charged such a premium for the convenience of not having to deal with him personally...

What he lacks in personal charm and negotiation tact, he more than makes up for in his clientele's eagerness to make their way from him as soon as possible, often causing them to lose more coin than they'd otherwise wish to part with.
Mudge has embraced his reputation for being mean, ugly, and unpleasant to be around, and turned it to his ultimate advantage. Don't pity Mudge, he's far more fortunate and his business in Egilrun has made him richer than most anyone could imagine.
