Ymiden 21, Arc 721

On the 21st of Ymiden, Devin Thorn, medical genius in progress, masterful bard and priest of Delroth rode up the beach and towards Hopetoun on his magnificent new mount that was either a Scalvwing with goat parts or a goat with Scalvwing parts, depending on how you looked at it. He rode somewhat slowly, both because he was just not a very good rider yet (He planned on mastering riding as well as every other skill out there; he was sure that he would be able to because he was a Mortalborn and would live forever!) and because he wanted to admire the scenery. It was just such a lovely summer trial!

The sky was blue, the sand was orange, the trees were still green rather than brown, dry and half-dead, and the sun was … yellowish? Devin didn’t look too closely at the sun because he didn’t want to damage his eyes. They were very nice and special eyes because they were mutated eyes. Either way, he was enjoying himself thoroughly at the moment. Faldrass was like a dream come true. He’d always, always wanted to be a noble and rich and famous, and now he was all that, and he was just absolutely glorious!

He wasn’t even afraid of the volcano anymore!

Eventually, he pushed his legs into his goat’s sides slightly and closed the distance between him and Hopetoun. He wasn’t going there for fun, after all, but more or less because of official business!

The fact that he owned a winged goat had become pretty much common knowledge in Scalvoris at this point; a few of the settlers still stared when he arrived though. He dismounted, and bowed, one hand in the center of his chest and a radiant smile on his face, before he led his goat somewhere safe in order to make sure it wouldn’t be able to run (Not that it usually did – it was a very well-trained goat!) and gave it something to eat and drink so that it wouldn’t get hungry or thirsty while he took care of what he had come for.

Having done that, he got the cardboard box that had previously been secured behind the saddle and then he went looking for the person that he needed. Since he was in Hopetoun on official business, he was dressed to the nines. He was wearing very fine sky-blue pants and a matching vest, because blue was in fashion that season. His vest wasn’t just any vest though, it was embroidered with shimmering silver thread and decorated with pretty little feathers. Underneath the vest was a white silk shirt, and over it was a silver body chain (Made of real silver, of course!).

He was also wearing black leather boots, fine, but undeniably sturdy black leather boots that were appropriate for riding as well as walking around in not entirely civilized places because he was vain, but definitely not stupid. Wearing high-heeled shoes or some other sort of extravagant footwear in a somewhat uncivilized place could lead to you getting stuck in the mud, falling, getting hurt and becoming ugly in the process, it made sitting in the saddle noticeably more uncomfortable – and besides you couldn’t run from the monsters very well in high heels.

There were definitely monsters somewhere!

Carrying the box with both hands so that he wouldn’t accidentally drop it and damage the contents, the Mortalborn who also had three shimmering feathers in his hair walked around, turning his head left and right until he saw a woman that looked kind of like the one that he was looking for. So, without further ado, he smiled and walked up to Vega, set the box down and extended a hand with fingers that ended in black nails (grafted, not natural).

“Devin Thorn, Baron Smooglenuff”, he introduced himself in a chipper tone of voice. “I sent word that I would be visiting beforehand. I’m looking for someone to make benches for me, great benches, and I heard that you are an incredibly skilled woodworker. There’s a gift for you in this box here, because Saoire is the Immortal of Gifts and because you should give someone that you meet for the first time something nice in my opinion. Unless you are not Vega Creede?” he asked as something suddenly occurred to him and raised a perfectly groomed black eyebrow slightly.

“You can still open the box, take a look and have a piece if you aren’t Vega Creede because I don’t know you either”, he decided because he was in quite a good and generous mood that trial and grinned slightly.

If Vega opened the box, she would subsequently find herself looking at a cake. It wasn’t just any cake though. It was a chocolate cake that Devin had decided to improve by covering it with copious amounts of frosting, chocolate shavings, sprinkles and pieces of candied cherries, lemons and oranges.

If Vega didn’t open the box on the other hand, for whatever reason, then it would just be a random box with more or less mysterious contents!

21st Ymiden, 721

"Are you havin' a giraffe?"

That was what Vega said, to herself and nobody in particular, as she caught sight of a bloke on a winged goat arriving in Hopetoun. "Maybe," she considered, "I'm goin' soft in the nog an' this pregnancy malarkey has sent me doolally. So much so, I'm hallucinatin' weird folks on winged things. I mean, it's possible, innit?" with a slight grin, Vega admitted to herself. "I mean. I am talkin' to myself right now, so it is entirely possible, innit?". Vega had been sitting on the ground at Hope Point, working on some clothes for the baby. She was a decent enough seamstress, but she wanted to get better. Like everything in life, the only way she was going to do that was by practice and she could think of no better way to practice than the simple expedient of making clothes for their child. She'd been working on a small lace gown with a tiny embroidered pattern on the waistline. The pattern was embroidered on after the dress was made and, part of the reason for so doing was to make the seam less obvious. Originally, Vega had intended to make the dress all in the green fabric she had, but had decided that the embroidery would be too much in the same colour, so she was using a vivid blue for that.

Looking down at the garment in her hands, Vega tied off the embroidery and carefully put it in to her bag. As much as she wanted to make sure that this baby was the best-dressed in Idalos, her natural curiosity was far too much for her to not pay attention to the blokie on a winged goat. That had to be something worth seeing, she figured.

She was not disappointed.

The fella who turned up at Hopetoun looked rather foppish, Vega thought. He had glowing feathers in his hair and was a well-to-do individual, judging by his clothes. She had to admit to being somewhat surprised as he walked up to her. At this point in her pregnancy Vega was just over half way through and she had a very noticeable and the clothes she wore accentuated it, not hid it. She looked at him with a perplexed expression and nodded. Shaking his hand, Vega smiled "I heard you was comin' Baron Snuggle ... Snoogle...no, I can't say that word. It's nice to meet you, though. I'm Vega Creede." He wanted someone who did wood working? Vega grinned, pleasure on her face and she was about to tell him that she was very happy to work with wood when he thrust a box into her hand. "Oh, that's well nice of you, thanks," she said. Not wanting to be rude but equally unable to resist it, she peeked inside and grinned. "Oh, that looks great! Thanks so much. I love chocolate cake."

She looked at him and a thought crossed her mind. "So, hold on a rolly-mo. You're one of three barons with Darius, right?" Now that she understood that, Vega was more positive about this strange man with the oddly coloured eyes. Her own eyes swirled through shades of colours as she spoke with him, "An' you want me to make you benches? Alright," she said, and nodded. "I can do that. But we'll need to have a chat about what you want, how many, that kind of thing. I tell you what, why don't you come to our camp, an' you can park yourself on a bench I've already made, we can have some cake an' I'll make us some tea while you tell me details?"

Assuming he agreed, Vega led Devin to their camp. On the way there she first offered, "we've got horses an' dinili an' things. If you want to bring your winged goat, you're more than welcome." Part of her was intrigued to see it. Then, after a few moments of silence, Vega asked. "Since you're a baron an' all, am I supposed to call you somethin'?" Did barons have titles? Vega wondered this and then with a slight frown of concentration spoke her thoughts aloud. "Am I supposed to call Darius somethin'? Well, schnizzle my snoot, I never thought of that." Shrugging slightly she grinned. "This way," she said.

Once they were in the camp, Vega would indeed direct him to sit on one of the benches she had made for her and Arlo. She'd serve some cake and make tea, then look at him and ask, in her usual direct way. "Alright then, Baron von Devin. What're you wantin'?"

“That’s quite alright“, Devin said in good-natured tone of voice and grinned when Vega told him that she couldn’t say the word. “Sometimes, I can’t say the word either, to be honest. It’s quite a mouthful, isn’t it? You can call me whatever you want, as long as you don’t call me ‘Father Devin’ because that just makes me feel old, and I’m too young to feel old”, he admitted and proceeded to furrow his brow slightly because growing old bothered him a little, to be honest. He didn’t explain the ‘Father Devin’ bit any further, because everyone in Scalvoris knew that he was a priest of Delroth at this point, right?

“Anyway, I’m glad that you are Vega Creede because that means that I don’t have to keep on looking for you”, he continued, grinning. “And that you like chocolate cake. I like chocolate cake as well. Congratulations, by the way”, he said and gestured towards her belly. It was pretty hard to overlook that she was pregnant.

“Yes, I am”, he continued, in the same enthusiastic tone of voice as before when she asked if he was one three barons with Darius. “Originally, I wanted Alyssia to have the job because she’s one of the bravest people I’ve ever met, but then Saoire made Darius, Nir’wei and me Barons instead. Alyssia’s children will inherit the Barony though”, he told her before he abruptly fell silent and considered what Vega had said to him.

“That sounds great”, he decided and nodded before he followed her. When she told him that he was welcome to bring his winged goat, his eyes lit up, and he quickly walked over to where he had parked it and retrieved it. “I’m actually not sure if he really is a winged goat”, he admitted as they walked. “He might also be a Scalvwing with goat parts. He used to belong to a circus, but they didn’t want him anymore, so I took him. His name is Keke. You can touch him if you want. He’s pretty friendly”, he told her.

Vega seemed to be quite curious about his mount, so he wanted to encourage her, but he was also so incredibly proud of being the owner of Scalvoris’ one and only winged goat.

He wanted to show Keke off a bit!

“I think you usually call a Baron ‘My Lord’?” he replied in a way that made it sound more like a question. “I’ve been wondering if I’m supposed to call Darius something as well because nobody ever told me if Barons have to call each other by their titles. Baron von Devin is fine”, he decided and plopped down on the bench. “I like that”, he added and grinned because it made being Devin sound like a really great thing.

Which it was!

“Thank you”, he said once she had given him cake and tea and started eating with unmistakable joy. “So, we are building a road. Actually, there’ll be two roads – one from the manor to Hopetoun, and one from the manor to the dock to the south so that it’s more easily accessible. And I want a couple of benches next to the road so that people can sit down and rest on their way to the manor. It’s a few miles, and some might find the trip exhausting. And besides, Faldrass is a pretty nice island.”

“Benches where you can sit down and relax would make it easier to enjoy the scenery”,
he pointed out to her. “I don’t want the kind of benches that just look like someone nailed a couple of boards together though. I want nice benches, like this one here, maybe with carvings, if you can do those, benches that don’t make your behind hurt if you sit on them too long”, he added because that was pretty important in his opinion.

“Can you do that? Do you have time?” he asked and raised a perfectly groomed eyebrow before something suddenly occurred to him.

“Wait! What is a schnizzle, and what does it have to do with your snoot?” he wanted to know, with a look that was a pretty even mixture of confusion and excitement on his face.

Re: Benches

21st Ymiden, 721

Why, Vega wondered, would she call him father Devin? She considered it a moment and then asked, "So you're the priest of Delroth I've heard about?" She looked at him for a moment, then nodded. "Yeah, that tracks. " She hadn't put the two things together, but she did now and it made sense. He spoke about someone called Alyssia and Vega frowned. "I don't think I know her," she said. Though, she had to admit with a slight smile. "Though, this pregnancy seems to be doin' things with my ability to think an' remember, so it might be that she's actually my aunt or sister or somethin' an' I've forgotten." It was true, she found herself forgetting things and needing to be reminded of them on a regular basis.

Devin was enormously proud of his winged goat and Vega couldn't quite hide her smile at his enthusiasm. "Thanks. I like to say hello," she said and did. She was wary around the animal - as she would be around any - but she was also pretty good at being around animals so she was friendly, showed no fear, and made no sudden moved. After a few moments of interacting, though, she came to a conclusion. "I reckon that's a goat with wings, you know. It's got a goat's temperement, more'n a horse. I don't know though, I've never met a Scalvwing Steed, so it might be that those are all goat-like or somethin'. Either way, that's a unique animal." There was no doubting that it was, in her mind. "You should think about breedin' it. Have you seen his behaviour round a female?" Either way, she figured, it was worth a shot. "That might tell you what it is too. If goats go for it an' they do the do, but lady horses turn their noses up, then it's a goat."

She grinned when Devin said that he thought people usually called Baron's "my Lord"; what people usually did and what Vega did were often two very different things. "Well, I hope no one's offended when I don't call them that," she said, handing him a slice of cake. Vega had experienced all the hierarchy and stupid ranks and seniority being mistaken for superiority she could cope with - and she wasn't changing now. They drank and ate and he told her what it was that he wanted.

"Yeah, I can do that no worries," Vega said and nodded. "I have a knack with wood what'll mean they're resistant to the elements. What sort of carvin's do you want on them?" He looked like the kind of bloke who would appreciate unusual things, so she considered it. "If you wanted, I could make you benches with a high back an' a canopy top sort of thing. They're called an 'arbour' bench, an' they're covered over. Then, we could use the back an' sides as a planter for fragrant herbs an' flowers, an' there could be planters either side. " Thinking about it, Vega's mind went to many different thoughts. "An' if you wanted, I could make all of them different, so one could be a table with like, benches for the side, an' a roof. So, the back an' roof would be here," getting up she showed him what she meant on the bench he was on. It hopefully gave him a visualImage. Thinking about it, she pointed to the corner seats they had in the camp, "An another could be like that. See, there'd be trellis here," and again, she described it against an existing object so he got an idea of what she meant Image. Thinking about it, she added, "An' I can shape the roof, always havin' it the same shape, an' with the same carvin's, so it's cohesive but no two the same. I'm thinkin' like a boat shape?" She held her hands to show him the kind of shape she meantImage

But then, he asked what a schnizzle was and what it had to do with her snoot and Vega laughed. "I dunno, it's jus' an expression. Schnizzle my snoot. I've always thought it meant like to tickle your nose, you know?" Taking a bite of the cake he'd brought her, Vega made a noise of pleasure. "That is bloody lovely, thanks very much. So, what're you thinkin' about these benches then?" Suddenly, she seemed (and, to be fair, was - but only temporarily) more interested in the cake.

“That’s me“, Devin replied and practically beamed at Vega when she asked him if he was the priest of Delroth that she’d heard about. He had not expected her to not know about his being a priest, but he was so very happy to hear those words from her mouth regardless though because he loved being recognized so much. “As for Alyssia, she has red hair, just like you, but her eyes don’t change color. Maybe she’s your long-lost little sister or niece or something regardless though?” he mused when Vega admitted that her pregnancy seemed to be doing things with her ability to remember.

As far as he was concerned, it was definitely not impossible!

“Alyssia doesn’t have a family”, he added, and his eyes darkened for a moment. He didn’t care about children particularly, and he definitely didn’t want to ever have any children of his own, but he really liked Alyssia and wanted her to live a long and happy life. She deserved a little happiness in his opinion after she’d been hungry and homeless for such a long time. It would be nice if her family weren’t all dead, after all!

Thinking about the orphaned young Baroness had temporarily made him a little sad, but Devin was not capable of being sad for long (and neither did he want to, to be honest, because it didn’t feel good). When Vega said hello to Keke and interacted with him a bit, he smiled quite cheerfully. A moment later, when she reckoned that he was a goat with wings, he furrowed his brow. “You may be right. He does have a rather goat-like temperament, and he even bleats like a goat. He isn’t interested in my normal goat though – or in my Scalvwing. My Scalvwing is male though, so maybe that’s why”, he mused when Vega told him that he should think about breeding Keke.

“I think I’ll buy him a lady horse. Or maybe a lady Scalvwing”, he decided, sounding quite impressed by Vega’s words. “That’s an excellent idea, thank you. Those circus people tried breeding him, but he refused to make babies. I think he was really unhappy there though”, he added. “I mean, would you obey someone that tried to control every aspect of your life and teach you stupid tricks?” he asked and made a face before he abruptly stuffed a piece of cake into his mouth.

“I’m not offended”, he assured her when the conversation turned to the matter of titles. “That etiquette business gets on my nerves a lot of the time anyway. It was probably invented by someone who had too much time on their hands”, he admitted. He was not lying. It was complicated and headache-inducing, but on the other hand, he really, really, really loved being rich and famous and influential. He just wished that he could just get rid of the less pleasant aspects of his newfound status. He only wanted the good stuff!

“I can’t speak for Darius though – or for Nir’wei. I don’t think that Nir’wei gets hung up about titles though. He has a bow. A talking bow”, he added, as if that explained everything. Truth to be told, he could have talked about breeding goats and talking bows all trial long, but he had come here to take care of important business, so he decided to focus on that. He drank a bit of tea, nodding approvingly, before he listened to Vega. He actually hadn’t thought about what kind of carvings he wanted in detail yet.

When Vega asked him, he immediately replied anyway though. “No flowers and such, please. Those are boring. I’d like birds, because those are great, and maybe other kinds of animals if you know how to carve animals. Otherwise, I’ll just go for crazy patterns. Wait! You can make wood resistant to the elements?” he asked a moment later and raised his hand in case she was just about to say something about the carvings. “How? Are you an alchemist?” he wanted to know because that made the most sense to him.

“Oh!” he made when she mentioned canopies, and his eyes abruptly lit up. “I’d like that. Benches with canopies would be great. They’d also protect travelers from the rain. They could just wait there rather than walking down the road, getting wet and possible getting a cold in the process. That’s a great idea! Benches with a boat-shaped roof, tables, trellises and carvings that have a cohesive look, but aren’t exactly the same”, he admitted before he narrowed his eyes. “How long would that take though?” he wanted to know.

“Is it a foreign language?” he wanted to know when Vega explained what ‘schnizzle’ meant. “If it is, I’d like to learn it sometime, I think”, he admitted before he ate more of that cake himself and finally grabbed a candied cherry and stuck it into his mouth. “I don’t only put sprinkles, chocolate shavings and candied fruit on cake. I can also make rainbow-colored whipped cream - and food that glows!” he told her when she called the cake bloody lovely. “I have a hen that glows and even lays glowing eggs”, he said.

“Anyway, your idea is great, as I said”, he continued before he eyed the cake again. He didn’t mind that Vega had momentarily gotten distracted by the cake because he got distracted a lot – by a wide variety of different and often seemingly random things. “And you can eat as much as you want. It's your cake after all”, he told her in case she was considering seconds.

Re: Benches

21st Ymiden, 721

He spoke about a red-haired girl whose eyes didn't change colour but who didn't have a family and Vega gave a sort of half-smile. "Sounds to me like she's got family," she said in her usual matter-of-fact tone. "Jus' not the by-blood type of family is all." His thoughts on buying female animals to tempt his goat to have sex made Vega wonder just whether she should have suggested it. Now that she thought about it that way, it seemed a bit bizarre, but there it was. And besides, who were they to deny a winged-goat-thing? When Devin asked if she'd obey someone, Vega chuckled and shook her head. "Nope, nope I would not." And if there were awards for understatement, Vega thought, then that assertion would be winning it. But still.

They got themselves settled, she came up with ideas and he explained what he wanted. Vega nodded. "I can carve animals, yeah. Or patterns, or words. Whatever you want really," He exclaimed then, urging her to wait and then wondered how she managed to make wood resistant to the elements. "I'm not an alchemist no, though I've got a friend who is an' I'm hopin' to learn from him but this is jus' about understandin' wood, really." She thought about how she could explain it, decided she couldn't and tried anyhow. "Everythin' has a rhythm, you know? A song. I jus' listen to that." She shrugged slightly. "An' it won't take ages, I'm fairly fast an' since I'm restricted to waddlin' around here like a pregnant person, I find that my social diary is well empty." Not, in fairness, that it had been full ever. Vega very much did her own thing. Always and without question.

"Alright, so you give me the details of how many, an' what you want on them, an' I'll go from there. You want me to send you designs before I start?" Either way, she was happy. Chewing on her cake, savouring each mouthful, she shook her head when he asked if it was a foreign language. "My husband might say it was, but it's jus' one of the words I use. I don't know if anyone else ever does, I don't rightly notice, but it's not a foreign language, just me." Did her way of speaking constitute a foreign language on it's own, she wondered? In fact, was it so bizarre that even if it didn't, it should? She thought maybe the answer to that question was yes, but she decided that she didn't really care.

"Glowin' food? Oh, yeah, glowin' chickens. We've got a few here," she said, and she glanced at Devin. "Have you seen etchwing feathers? They're well pretty. An' there's a type of tree here what has sort of rainbow-coloured wood. You want me to use that?" Vega remembered the teaching of one Mad-Eye and spoke calmly about a topic she found rather uncomfortable. "I guess we should talk about price. If you want me to procure the materials or whether you're goin' to supply them for me will make a difference, so, lets look at it for both." Shrugging slightly, she added, "an' what wood you want to use is important, too. Normal an' usual wood is cheaper than silverwood or rainbow wood - or a mixture of them. Stuff like that. We can work out details an' then talk price, what do you think?"

And that was what she'd do - happily enough. The more detail she had from Devin the better, after all, so she showed him the available materials, the archway to Hopetoun which she had carved, things like that. Then, when he had some ideas, he could give her the information she needed. Once he had, she'd give him a price. Remembering what Mad-Eye had said, she factored in being paid for her time. She didn't like discussing money, but it was the fair and right thing to do.

Re: Benches

When Vega remarked that it sounded as if Alyssia had a family, just not the by-blood type of family, Devin furrowed his brow for a moment before he decided, “Maybe Darius, Nir’wei and me can be her big brothers then! I wonder if she would like that”, he mused and smiled as he thought about all the (occasionally crazy) things that he would teach Alyssia and all presents that he would buy for her. He had gotten her a four-eyed puppy once. Maybe, he could get her a flying bunny next – or a miniature goat, so that they could have matching pets!

When Vega told him that she was not an alchemist, but just understood wood and that everything had a rhythm, the young man who could talk without pause sometimes fell silent and looked at her for a bit before he nodded. “I know”, he replied in a soft and serious tone of voice. “It’s like Attunement, but without the magic part, isn’t it? Everything has a rhythm and a frequency. I play the lute”, he added, as some sort of additional explanation before he shook his head.

“You don’t have to send me any designs before you start. I quite like a little surprise every now and then. In my opinion, life would be boring if you always knew what exactly you’ll get. I’d like you to carve animals, please, but you can decide which animals”, he remarked. “I don’t like words though. I mean, reading stories and such is fun, but I don’t find letters particularly visually appealing, to be honest”, he admitted and frowned a little. In his opinion, a bunch of lines and curves really didn’t look great!

“So, it’s more or less a language that you invented?” he asked, referring to the matter of schnizzles and snoots, and his eyes lit up. “I like that! I haven’t invented any languages of my own yet, but I sometimes speak Xanthea, just for the sake of it”, he told her, deciding to keep the fact that his Xanthea was badly broken to himself. He very much preferred to pretend to be perfect. He was truly a master of linguistics!

“So, I’d like you to decorate the benches with carvings of animals, and I want that many benches”, he decided a moment later, in a serious and business-like tone of voice that was appropriate for discussing such an important matter and proceeded to give her a number that he thought made sense. “And oh! Rainbow-colored wood would be great. Could you use that, please?” he asked Vega a moment later, struggling to contain his enthusiasm - because he didn’t really want to. “I haven’t seen etchwing feathers yet. What do they look like?” he wanted to know, sounding curious.

“Money’s not an issue at all. I have lots of nels, silver nels, golden nels and onyx nels, and even gemstones if you’d prefer to get paid with those”, he said and grinned. Unlike Vega, he didn’t find the topic uncomfortable at all. He loved having money and spending it. As a little boy, he’d dreamt of being rich, and now he was rich, and it was great! “Besides, those benches will hopefully make someone happy”, he added – which was something that was pretty important to him. He wanted to fill the world with nice and pleasant and happy things and get rid of all the ugly and boring and sad stuff because life was far too precious to put up with that!

“But we can talk about the price after we’ve worked out the details if you prefer that”, he decided before he examined the available materials (and oohed and aahed at the archway a bit because it was quite an impressive piece of craftsmanship, everything considered). His decision didn’t change though. He wanted rainbow-colored benches with roofs and tables and animal carvings. In his opinion, those would look absolutely fantastic!

Re: Benches

Devin seemed like an entirely amiable chap, Vega thought. He looked pleased at the idea of being the red-head's brother and she grinned when he said he played the lute. "I can play the fiddle passin' fair," she said. "An' a few other instruments too. I've often quite fancied the idea of sittin' round a fire an' playin' with a group." She grinned slightly. "Though, I'm probably a bit too bad-tempered, to be honest." It was true, there was no point denying it. "An' yeah, I've heard about Attunement. I guess it is kind of like that, yeah. I dunno though. " She didn't practice attunement and she wasn't likely to start, so there was no telling.

No words, but animals. Right. She could do that. Vega grinned slightly when he said that he sometimes spoke Xanthea. "Well, I'm half Sev'ryn, so I know Xanthea pretty well," she said. "An' for the animals, I'll do that. I think I'll go with Scalvoris specific stuff. There's a bunch of really beautiful but righ' weird critters on this island, so I'll do that." He seemed happy and she nodded her head that yes, she'd make the rainbow-coloured. "Oh, etchwings are well interestin' things," she said. "As birds, they're more or less invisible when alive. But when you kill one, it's feathers are like this," reaching down to grab a small box from her fletching kit, Vega showed him the multi coloured rainbow flowers. "Aren't they great?"

Once she had all the information she needed, Vega was happy to show him the archway and the rainbow wood and all that he needed to know. "Well, I tell you what," she said. "I'll get on this an' I'll send a note up to the Barony when they're done? We can deliver them if you want, we've got a cart, but I'd rather not go carryin' things since I'm pregnant, an' that'll mean I have to bully my poor long-sufferin' cousins to help me." She smiled slightly. "But I'll get goin' on this an' I'll let you know when I'm done, yeah?"

He wanted rainbow-coloured benches with roofs and tables and animal carvings. She wanted to feel useful and not like a lump hoicking around the place, so - all in all - it was a match made in heaven.

If Devin had no more to discuss, once she'd shown him round and had cleared up any last minute questions, Vega would bid him farewell and sit down to start the job.

Notes: I'm surprised this is the first meeting between these two characters. It seems like they got along famously, barring a bit of confusion on either one's part that was easily navigated through dialogue. And hey, Devin gave Vega a giraffe as a gift! That ought to be a medal.

Keke was his usual self, an international goat of mystery. It's still quite a mystery what he is. is he a giant grafted goat with wings, or an altered scalvwing? So mysterious

I like the bench ideas traded in this thread. But I'm somewhat surprised that Devin didn't suggest bird baths for the benches, when he mentioned he preferred bird motifs to flowers. I think adding bird baths to the benches m right be an interesting (if a bit messy) feature.

It's good to see Vega still staying busy, even this far along into her pregnancy. I enjoyed the details about how the pregnancy has affected her faculties, particularly her memory. These little vulnerabilities and tidbits really bring home that the character is a living breathing thing.

Well done, you two, enjoy the points and such. And enjoy working on those benches, whenever you get around to it!
