Malcolm had purchased a wagon, an item they had long needed out on the farm for some time now to cart goods back and forth, especially materials from the city that were difficult to get delivered during these hard times, Rynmere post civil war. He had bathed and dressed that morning before going to the markets to collect what Elyna had put on hold for the house. She had planned to extend the house off the living room, adding a second bedroom for when the baby came and was a little older. Malcolm had also purchased a couple of surprise items for her, a cradle, blankets, along with an assortment of other things that would help Elyna once the baby was here. The knight had worked up a sweat loading the wood and new tools onto the wagon and had Benjamin fetch Mithril from the farm on his way back from an early morning patrol down at the docks. With two horses set up for pulling the wagon, they could get away with a little more weight than was fair on one. Malcolm paid to an extra window to replace the one he had broken in a fit of rage, and climbed up into the driver's seat after thanking Benjamin for his efforts.
Approaching the Burhan estate had filled the man with a strange, nervous energy, one he tried his best to mask, with a face like stone, his mind set on what he had come here to do. Elyna's parents would probably not be pleased to see her go, especially her mother, who only two nights ago had thrown the contents of her wineglass at the mortalborn's face, soaking his shirt and the inside of his tabard. He had taken the act surprisingly well and left without a fuss that night. Initially Malcolm had been perplexed by the actions of the baroness, and wondered what gave her the right to act in such a manner, and around someone who had once been her equal in status. It was then he thought of Elyna and everything he would do to protect her, and knew he had just been on the receiving end of her mother's love and devotion.
As the house came into view, the knight hushed the disapproving voice of doubt in his head and continued on up the drive until he had reached the turnabout. Steering the horses and bringing them to a stop at the same time was trickier than it looked, and Red made a restless sound, raking at the small stones underfoot, and trying to raise his head higher than the harness would allow. Malcolm was met by one of the servants on his way up the steps to the main door, and he inquired after Elyna, asking the young woman to go and fetch her. He hadn't made plans to stick around, but was ready for the invitation Elyna might extend for him to stay a little while, if only to meet her parents officially.
