Melrath Hot Cycle 721 Calendar

Melrath Plot Tracker & Calendar

The Hot Cycle; 721 (Ymiden and Saun)

1st - 52nd of Ymiden

The storms of yestercycle's Ashan phase proceed into Ymiden, blanketing the entire landscape in moisture. Humidity begins to increase, and persists for the first half of Ymiden. The entire season is split between humid, hazy days, and torrential downpours.

50th - 83rd Trial of Ymiden

The humidity of the prior days of Ymiden give way to a more dry heat, as a drought falls upon the lands, particularly farms and lands near Myrkvior, and the eastern coast of Melrath. The drought is so severe, that brushfires begin breaking out toward the end of the season across eastern woodlands.

Event Calendar

10th of Ymiden “Turbulence & Treasure”: Just offshore Raelia there is an earthquake within Felwind Strait. There is a tidal surge and parts of the coast are damaged. People are left injured with more than a couple locals are washed out to sea. Rescue operations begin immediately to try and find those who have been lost to the waves, and repairs have begun. Everyone remembers a similar earthquake that impacted Noatun a few arcs earlier, but the origin of said earthquakes is still a mystery. In addition, this time, curious items have begun to wash up on the shores of Raelia with interesting abilities. Please pm Pig Boy to approve any ‘curiosities’ you might find along the shore. (Open: Unmodded )

12th of Ymiden through the 22nd: Hesterfor (Holiday): Youths from around Melrath take to their coming-of-age tasks. Given the strife that has wracked Melrath throughout winter, many youths are made to pursue tasks that are of practical use to the various peoples of Melrath. Citizens may find themselves approached by youths who wish to be of service or asking for a quest to undertake, one worthy of earning their embla. (Open: Unmodded )

29th of Ymiden: “Lake of Cerulean”: History repeats itself as the night the waters of Lake Svariella have changed hue, again. The surface of the lake glistens with the brilliance of deep, rich blue, and people in the area claim to hear a voice singing whenever the wind blows through the reeds on the shore. Dwynmer and other Melrathi alike flock to the shores of the lakeside to listen to the music and observe the phenomena. The lake returns to normal the following trial but the lingering question of ‘why’ has yet to be solved. Why is the lake prone to sudden, random, inexplicable color changes? Will anyone step up to the challenge? Local officials are offering rewards to anyone with information that leads to answers. (Open: Unmodded )

69th of Ymiden "Outlanders, Redux”:
The Ydalir Rangers have once again reported finding tracks leading into the southern expanse of Myrkvior Forest. Someone is entering Melrath secretly and undetected, it seems. This has happened before and seems to be happening with increasing frequency. Tracks indicate the presence of several dozens of these bipedal invaders and suggest that they have split up between the hunting trails of the forest while others have headed into the mountains. Three trials later, on the 72ndt, news begins to be heard within Fensalir and Alivilda that these 'Outlanders' have once again been spotted within these settlements clearly interested in learning more about Melrath and their military capabilities. Crimes of assault increase in these two towns, perpetrated always by men and women who appear to be dressed in foreign clothes and armor more commonly seen in central Idalos around Rynmere.

• The Ragnari are summoned to investigate and cull these invaders. If you are a Ragnari member you may find that you run into these 'Outlanders' from time to time in Alivilda and Fensalir starting from the 71st. They use guerrilla warfare and are extremely hard to capture.
• Anyone can help provide information for this calendar event. This includes sightings, conversations with either Ragnari or the ‘Outlanders’ or context clues that your pc digs up to be passed along to the Ragnari. Rewards are offered to anyone that might have useful information for the Ragnari.
• Please pm Pig Boy if you are interested in following up on this event for plotnotes.

Note: Players are welcome to self-moderate any calendar event that does not have Mod Input next to the date. Such dates will require a mod's input/oversight if you're to investigate.

1st - 40th of Saun

The Drought continues and persists throughout Saun. During the days, the land gets no relief, burning under the heat of two suns.

Event Calendar

1st of Saun "Sapped Dry": The Tunawa of the Hochojobon colonies have been found to still be asleep, after the events of early last Cylus. The bodies of tunawa are found across Melrath,, in fact, particularly around the eastern coast between Noatun and Thrudheim tower. Their bodies are petrified, drained of all sap, villagers report. Few tunawa at all can be found in all of Melrath, and people begin to wonder if some disaster has befallen the Hochojobon entirely. (Mod Input: Let me know if you wish to investigate this. I will offer what guidance I can.)

9th of Saun: "Hollowcricks" A new creature or construct of some sort has arisen from the remains of the tunawa of Hochojobon. Some people have taken to gathering up the petrified remains of the tunawa found in earlier Saun. They are kept as family keepsakes and rumored to keep evil spirits at bay. However, these beliefs are quickly dashed, as misfortune seems to stalk the families. Whether their pets are poisoned, or their children falling ill, the petrified remains of the tunawa are blamed, whether rightly or wrongly. A great burning takes place, where hundreds of these tunawa remains are cast into the fire. The remaining Hollowcricks, to the peoples' surprise, begin walking around, and their joints make a dry 'Cricking' sound. They are found throughout Melrath subsequently, and cause all manner of mischief. They are incommunicable, as they ply their malicious pranks against the people.

Bounties are offered, 100 golden nels for every ten Hollowcricks that are brought to Ragnari officials. (Bounty: 1 wp for each ten Hollowcricks procured.)

15th of Saun “Gateways of the Forest”: Within the depths of the Melrathi mountains, strange doorways are appearing across the slopes of Mount Ymir. The doors appear cracked with spiderweb fractures of light racing across them. It’s as if something is trying to break them open, however no matter how hard you try, you yourself cannot get the doors to budge. However, if you press your ear to the doors, many claim to hear the words.
“The way is opening, the Dead come.”

It’s as if hundreds if not thousands of voices are speaking these words in tandem, and it sounds as of all those voices are standing just on the other side of the door. The words repeat over and over without fail.

The following trial the doors appear to vanish, although wherever they previously stood the stone of the mountain is cracked and streaked with ashen handprints.

This phenomenon has happened before, repeatedly. Rumors spread that if you have experienced the doors before or stumble across one, information is being actively sought by local officials. (Open: Unmodded )

19th of Saun: "The Hochojobon is Dying" One of the few surviving Tunawa that is found, one of the three that were found in House Imair's Longhouse in Raelia, begin to speak to the Melrathi, and are finally making sense and able to calm down. They lament that the Hochojobon is dying and that thus their line will fail if the Hochojobon dies. It is said that if a solution isn't found before Zi'Da, the tree will go dormant, only to never awaken. When asked about the petrified remains of their people, the Hollowcricks, the tunawa are very reticent and evasive. (Mod Input: Feel free to investigate and ask me for information about this.)

25th of Saun: “Heart of the Sleipnir.”: Once again, a large herd of Sleipnir have descended upon the lowlands, arriving just to the south of Alivilda to hunt prey in order to feed their urge to consume meat. It seems that the Stormtouched creatures in the mountains have caused the animals some distress and have forced them into the more populated areas of Melrath in order to satisfy their carnivorous nature. People are being attacked by hungry young Sleipnir colts, but no one is killed. However, the people of Alivilda are stuck with the difficulty of dealing with the winged equines during their stay in their lands. A few locals and travelers take the chance of trying to tame some of the young and later a group of Ragnari Valkyrion arrive to capture a few wild Sleipnir to add to their stables.

(Players, if you want to try and tame a wild Sleipnir then here is your chance. But be warned that these beasts are hard to train, especially if they are not young when you capture them. You also run the risk of being attacked by the older members of the herd if you try and capture a foal.) (Open: Unmodded )

32th of Saun: "Counterfeit Hollowcricks" Some unscrupulous individuals have been whittling false Hollowcricks, that are convincing enough to have made off with a substantial bounty in golden nels from the Ragnari coffers. A bounty is thus put out for the heads of these criminals. (Multi-thread Bounty: 15 wp for information leading to the arrest of these criminals.)

33rd of Saun “Verimeer’s Lost”:
Within the waters of the Dwynmer Lochs Mer are starting to go missing when they swim into the waters further into the Melrathi Mountains. No one knows where they have gone as no bodies are ever found. However, a few young Dwynmer children speak about seeing “doors” under the water in the colder lochs around Mount Ymir. Within three trials the disappearances cease, and several of the Dwynmer are never found. Local officials are offering rewards to anyone with information that leads to answers. (Open: Unmodded )

40th of Saun “Odinar” (Holiday): Held on the 40th of Saun, this hallowed day of heroes stands as a time when people remember fallen soldiers and celebrate those who still live and defend the nation. Ragnari and other notable and brave warriors are typically given rewards and accolades by the locals. This can include a bit of jewelry or even something as simple as a laurel wreath to wear on their heads. At night, however, the most highly regarded soldiers and fighters are anointed with new tattoos by a local member of the Aesir. Each tattoo is representative of the Melrath Induk the warrior shares the most traits with. Clever soldiers will find themselves tattooed with the shapes of leaves and foxes for Myrkvior, Steadfast men and women might find themselves marked with images of the Mountain Induk, whereas intuitive and spiritual warriors will wear the markings of the serpent Vynmur. (Open: Unmodded )

Hello fellow Melrathi! First off, many thanks for Avalon for coming up with the majority of these dates!

I may add some events as we go along, but for now this is what we have for the Calendar of the Hot Cycle.

So this is where you can help me help you! There will be two forms below. The first is specific to calendar events. When you take an event from the calendar you can plunk a link to the thread you've started in here. This way I can keep tabs on it, and also potentially step in for a modbomb.

As for the second form; if you are writing what you think is an impactful thread, that isn't from a calendar event then I'd still like to track your progress. I want you all to have the freedom to affect Melrath in any way your character's see fit. Remember, if you let me know what you are up too then I'm more likely to notice and give you modbombs or plot notes. It's all about making this experience better for everyone.

Unsure whether to deem this a calendar event or just a general impact thread as it pertains to a weather event (brushfires in late Ymiden) rather than a particular calendar event.
Thread Name/Link: Wardens of the Woods
Calendar Event 50th - 83rd of Ymiden: Drought & Bushfires
Description: Visna is part of the Aesir who are sent to aid in the containment of and recovery from the bushfires in the Wilds. It gives some light background on tactics used and all the factions involved. Visna gets and unpleasant surprise when she uses her Spiritmeld ability to reach out to a badly burned area she's been sent to forage in.
