Description: Seumas is an optimistic and sanguine individual, almost to the point of gullibility. He lives a lonely existence, hunting and fishing on the northern shores of Winter Reach, in a remote cabin about a half a trial's carriage ride from the nearest port. He spends most of his days fishing and hunting, but mostly makes his livings on the furs of seals, which he sells to traders at a nearby port stronghold of the Empire. He has few dealings with the remnants of the former government, and is a loyal citizen of the Empire. He did some arcs of service in the navy of the Eternal Empire, as a private on a coastal defense ship. Not much of a fighter, however, he mainly kept the ship running along with the other sailors.
These days, he spends a lonely existing subsisting on the land. He meets Caphinkla and her sisters when they save him, his boat, and his catch of seal furs as they get stuck on thin ice in the shallows.

Backstory: A Captain in the Mage Corps, as talented as he is in the magic arts, he was considered not a good or patient enough teacher for a residence at the Arcane University, a position which he sought with all of his fervor. His position in Winter Reach, in a backwater port on the Northernmost shores of the Empire feel to him like a punishment. One which he is bitterly disappointed with. Nevertheless, he is dutifull toward Raskalarn, and shores up the magical defenses of the Winter Reach in its struggle to maintain order, even whilst the raiders of the former government complicate the settlement of the region.
Relationship with Mentor: Kedaelus will meet Ink in the port town where he's stationed. He'll be intrigued by the fact not only that she's a mer, but also one that has learned the arts of magic outside of mortal society. When by chance she finds out that he is a mage, she will try to seek tutelage in the magics he possesses, but he will rebuke her initial overtures. It's not until he learns of her aspirations of growing a tribe on the shores of the Empire, that he sees the potential for Imperial promotion.
In time, they nurture a mutual respect through intermittent interactions. Eventually, he sees her with her following, and begins to believe that she actually has the potential to lead a tribe, whether by magic or guile. He sees an opportunity to not only colonize and secure Winter Reach, but the oceans surrounding it through her group of mer, by making them part of the Empire.

Caphinkla's Winter Reach Den
The cabin is situated atop a moderately high, stone sea cliff. The cabin alone is fairly tiny, with dividing interior walls cordoning off the sleeping area from the kitchen and a small workshop. From the kitchen, the area opens into a larger store room which contains a trap door leading into a sea cave beneath.
The first area beneath the trap door is a storage and food preparation area, for storing meats and other ingredients. This leads into a damp, and watery passage opening up into a larger living area for Caphinkla's sisters, who prefer to stay purely aquatic, as opposed to her penchant for using her legs. To the north, there's a wider and deeper passage that her Sarkin, Eia, makes its home beneath the water's surface in that exit into the waters north of the sea cavern's shores.
To the west a pen for the animals Caphinkla and her sisters have collected from the nearby waters are cordoned off from the pheremone traps, so they don't get overly anxious. To the south is a place with spots above and below water for resting, working, and socializing.
