Quiet now, though th' winds blow wild;
As Kali'rial walked out of the gates of Desnind, she could almost hear a voice in the wind, so very quiet and whispered that it could be nothing but the leaves rustling. Still, the sound gave her a sense of calm as she wandered. Around her, the forest was quiet, no animals scurried and no birds sang, the light of evening seeming to be paused at the same spot as to not get any darker. Making her way boldly through familiar territory, she heard it again, a strange sound that could have been a deep voice or perhaps a distorted roar of a large animal far off into the distance.
Pushing past a thick fold of foliage, Kali stopped dead in her tracks. Before her, looming darkly was her parents wagon in a small clearing, fire burning beside it. Frowning darkly the huntress clenched her fists.
"No. I will not play this game again. I know this story, I've seen this for the truth that it is." She yelled out, her voice the only thing echoing back in the clearing. Turning around slowly in a circle, the brunette came to a stop again as she faced the wagon. The great abyss that was it's entrance seemed different this time, it's darkness not quite as deep or as engulfing. Taking a deep breath she moved forward, stepping up into the wagon. The inside went on further and further, longer than the wagon really was, and at the far end the Sevir could see a light. Faint, but guiding in it's dim pale blue glow. On she moved, walking without fear. If the monster appeared from her nightmares, she would not run, her chin held high as she walked.
Child o' U'frek washed ashore,
Th' sea shall sing t' you evermore;
As she entered the faint blue glow she heard the breeze again, singing to her even as familiar smells of salty sea air came to her nose. The ground underfoot changed, it was cold and hard. Glancing down Kali saw it was cobblestone, and when she looked up again, the young huntress realised she was suddenly in Scalvoris Town in the blue of night just after the sun has finally faded away. Turning to look behind her, she saw that the wagon and Desnind were gone, it was just the gates of the city she had lived in since Ashan. From the far distance, towards the docks, she heard the roar again. It was a little clearer this time, definitely not human in nature. Moving through the night time of the city, she noticed again that it was quiet and still. The fountain was not running and the potted plants were withered and dead.
Quiet now, quiet now,
Sea winds sigh across th' bow;
Her feet were on the wood of the dock, watching the ocean as it sat still and black in the night. Above her, the sky was a brilliant showcase of so many stars and constellations, breathtaking in their abundance. In the skies above her, Kali could see movement, as though a few of the stars themselves were shifting away from her and somewhere far off, the deep roar sounded again, it was coming from across the ocean. This time though, she could make out the sound for what it was.
"Find me."
The scene had changed again, this time she was standing on an unfamiliar beach. It was early morning, just as the sun was rising. Turning her head away from the waters of the sea, she saw a boat half in construction. There were signs of habitation, and if she turned around the brunette would see a city wall. Frowning, the Sevir began to move towards the city, before the wind whispered to her again.
It's never far to Hushabye Forest
A boat of your own waits down by the bay
"Hello?" The huntress called out again, met only by the sound of her own voice. Moving away from the city wall, she approached the half build boat, noticing now that between the darkness of the unfinished ribs of the hull there was a dim blue glow. Following it between the wood, Kali stepped inside the hull. Immediately she felt wood under her feet.
The winds of the night, hear now they are singing
Soon you will sail your troubles away.
Gasping, the huntress reached out to grasp the rail of a ship she now stood on. It was black, deep dark night and she was on the deck of a boat. Not The Muse, something a bit larger. Around her though, a storm was raging. The wind screamed and rain pelted her face. Huge waves crashed in the glimmers of lighting and thunder shook her whole being. The boat swayed and dipped as it sailed the frightening sea storm, the Sevir struggling to stay on board.
