MOD BOMB!!
'This has gone bloody far enough!' Torvyn fumed as his chair clattered on the floor behind him. The words were not spoken aloud, or shouted rather, but everyone present had heard them often enough to hear them in their minds. One of the novice troopers was already reaching for the fallen chair as Torvyn bellowed at him to pick it up as he stormed past.
The Guards in the nearby section of the hall were now trading nels on their spontaneous bets as to how long the two young mages were going to be allowed to carry on this way before the master put a stop to it. Some groaned and handed over their gold, while others reminded them that they'd 'Told them so.' He glared at them as they chuckled, but let it slide, his fury was to be directed elsewhere.
Master Torvyn could have used his magic to throw the door open, but he was in a mood for hard contact, and his fist gave the two inside a moment of reprieve as he took his immediate anger out on the door instead. He did however use his Abrogation to keep the door against the wall. There was nothing worse than to have the door bounce back in your face when you'd just made a show of bursting it open. He would not suffer such embarrassment.
A number of things flashed through his mind, spontaneously bolstering, countering and altering his intentions as he took in the scene. He was already in the process of sweeping a preemptive field of Abrogative negation across the room. He knew what domains the two youngsters possessed; it was why they'd been assigned to him. He had those domains as Nemesis domains, which means it would cost him almost no effort, given his degree of experience, to completely cancel anything they tried to do with their ether.
But even as his eyes took in the far side of the room, his cancelling field following his line of sight, he saw the guardian. In an instant, he halted the formation of the field just short of the elemental entity. He then formed bands of hardened ether and used them like ropes to seize Zipper and pull her to the wall, pinning her in place. The field was in place where she now hung, so any attempt by her to cast would simply have no result.
It wouldn't have been that much trouble to increase the power, and complete his field to sever the tie the other combatant, Stark, had with the guardian. But such harsh means could have a drastic and negative impact on the growth of the young man's control of the ethereal elemental. The entity was no threat to him, but it could set the young trooper back considerably. And it could have killed Zipper.
As much as he wanted to vent his rage at this mockery of discipline, he grit his teeth and found that quiet, meditative, mental chamber in his mind. He looked down at Robin, still on the floor, "Trooper Stark, if you would be so kind as to dismiss your guardian, I would like a word with you two." He did not wait to see if the young man complied.
He now turned to face Zipper, still held against the wall by his bands of "hardened air". His words were still technically spoken to Stark, but they were definitely to be taken equally by them both. "I realize that young minds are often likely to feel that they have learned enough that no one has any business, or authority to tell them what to do. But Miss Zipper here is your superior, Mr. Stark; though her needlessly antagonistic approach serves far more often to create insubordination than to prevent it."
He let that sink in a moment before continuing, "You have your assignments. You will be teamed, and you WILL cooperate. If one day only one of you should return from some task, there had best be a LOOOONG stretch of amiable interaction between the two of you, or assumptions WILL be made, and accusations WILL be levied against the survivor. Do I make myself clear?"
