119th of Vhalar, Early morning
Elements Hall, Scalvoris Town
Most of Scalvoris was probably still asleep at this hour but it also meant that the Elements hall wasn't as crowded as it was during the day. Apparently, the local law enforcement on a former pirate island was quite busy, despite the pirates being all gone, more or less. Ronan hadn't been around long enough to really know what was going on on the island. Despite the early hour, Elements hall was open, as it always was, and some poor sods were probably getting ready for the last leg of their night shift. Ronan pushed the door open and stepped inside. The buildings in Scalvoris still made him feel a little sea sick from time to time and the Elements hall definitely wasn't an exception. To his surprise, the night shift sod he expected turned out to be an older lady who seemed to be just settling in behind her desk.
"Good morning, ma'am. I'm here to sign up for the Elements." She looked up from her desk and continued to look up until she finally reached his face. "Ah... Okay and who did you make your appointment with?" Ronan's face must have told her all she needed to know as he had no idea what she was talking about. "Or are you here to make an appointment for your interview then?" It sounded like the woman wasn't dealing with this for the first time. Probably many new recruits came here thinking to start off immediately and then get confused, much like he had. "Well, I just want to join the troops, ma'am, that's all. Do I need an appointment for that?" She flipped open one of her many ledgers and fingered through some of the pages. "Normally you would need one but..."
She let the rest of her sentence linger for a moment before finishing. "...yes, Selenia should be in. I could let you go and see her right now. There's no appointment scheduled at the moment. It's quite early, you see. Let me go and check." Ronan nodded as the older woman, probably around his own age, now that he thought about it, got up from her seat and walked to one of the many doors leading out of the general reception area. There was a brief conversation he couldn't hear before the lady leaned back out and waved him over. She stepped out and as he reached her she smiled at him. "She can see you now. Don't tell anyone I got you in without an appointment, ok, just our little secret." He wasn't sure if she put a wink at the end of her sentence or not, she turned away before he could properly register it. "Thank you, ma'am."
Making appointments to join the army was an odd practice in Ronan's mind. But, if he had to talk to some guy, or apparently girl, before he could get paid, then he'd talk to them. Ronan ducked slightly as he walked into the little office. There was some paperwork on the desk and a cabinet to the side. That and two chairs, one on each side of the desk, was all the furniture in the room. While Ronan wasn't claustrophobic in any way, the office reminded him of his first cell. It had barely been larger than this. "Excuse me? The lady outside said I could come in." Only now did Ronan notice just how young the woman across from him was. That she was a woman wasn't a surprise, there had been female fighters in the arena as well, but she seemed quite... aristocratic, frail and pure came to mind instantly.
"Have a seat." She smiled up at him and waved towards the other seat in the room. Ronan pulled it a little back from the desk and sat down, carefully. He'd crushed one chair too many in his life and had developed a carefulness around them. There was indeed some creaking of the wood as he lowered more of his weight onto the seat but the chair seemed to hold for now. "So, you'd like to join the Elements? Mind telling me your name and why you'd like to join?" She sounded quite friendly as she spoke. Ronan didn't feel like she was against him joining, despite the early hour at which he'd arrived. "Well, I'm Ronan and I need money. When I think about what I have to offer in exchange for that money, only these come to mind." He held up his hands, two shovels worth of hands, and looked each one for a moment before looking back towards the woman behind the desk.
