With the escalation of hostilities between Etzos and Rhakros, a series of small walled towns is being established as a network of early warnings and defenses against Rhakros' reprisals. Only the very bravest and most formidable of characters should risk themselves on the Witches' Wilds frontier.

12th of Zi'da, 717
Foster's Landing.

“Don’t be afraid of the string Sweetie.” The bearded man instructed calmly to the small girl aiming the bow below him. “It won’t hurt you.”

“I’m not afraid!” The girl protested as she awkwardly held the bow as far away from her body as possible.

“Of course you aren’t pumpkin but you need to pull the bow to your face” The man chuckled warmly. “-and use three fingers, that pinkie doesn’t need to be there.”

“Oh okay Papa.” The girl replied as she adjusted her posture accordingly.

——

Niv watched the pair from a branch in a nearby tree, she had her own tiny bow in her hands and was taking note of everything the father said. She pulled the bow to her cheek and was mindful of her pinkie. Her index finger rested on the top of her arrow with her other two fingers resting on the bottom as she drew the string back. She was ready to begin aiming when her arrow fell form its resting place and Niv had to stop and adjust it. The tunawa began to grind her teeth in frustration when it happened again.

——

“Papa it keeps falling!” The girl cried.

“No need to yell, I think your just pressing your fingers on the arrow to hard.” The bearded man moved into to get a closer look at what his daughter was doing. “yup just as a thought.” he nodded. “loosen up those fingers.”

—-

Niv drew her string again as she did before and realized that her fingers were pressing against the arrow quite a bit. She loosened her fingers around the arrow and was surprised to find it easier to control. The tunawa focused on her target, which happened to be a thick portion of bark.

—-
“Alita Lower your bow” The man said as he watched the girl aim her bow along with her line of sight.
The girl lowered her bow a fraction of an inch. “Like that?”

“No lower.” He replied as he pushed her bow down.

——

Niv could only smile as her experience with a sling had helped her know not to trust her eyes too much. The tunawa focused on the angle of her arms and did her best to make them even with her intended target. She wanted the shot to be perfect and fought through the shakiness of her tiring arms and fingers to make it so.

Thunk.

The arrow flew and sunk into the tree trunk..but to the left of where she wanted it to be. She tried again, this time talking even longer to line up the shot.

Thunk.

Even worse then before, how could her aim be so bad. She didn’t have this problem with a sling.

Trust yourself

The words of her own father entered her mind and with a determined face she let the arrow fly.

Thunk.

A single tear of golden sap dipped down her face as the arrow hit in the target perfectly.

___

“Don’t worry dear you’ll get it, it just takes practice.” The man patted his discouraged daughter as she threw her bow down in frustration.

“Can I play with my Tunawa now?” The girl groaned.

“Yes Sweetie, I can teach you more tomorrow.” The man smiled and walked back to his house.

The little girl smiled and lifted a wooden cage from behind a nearby tree stump. There was a tunawa with a blank expression wearing some kind of frilly dress inside the cage.
“Time to play Daisy.” The little girl giggled.

___

Niv looked down with a determined frown. By Ashan’s will that Tunawa in the stupid dress would be freed from its oppressor and Niv would be the one to do it.

“Let dat Tunawa go!” Niv called from above.

Riding down one of the many paths that led to and fro the Landing proper, Gangui and his trusty warrior, Caoindelbhan, approached the scene just as it was unfolding. The minds of the two men were entirely focused on the discussion that they were having, so when the little Tunawa woman screeched from up above, it seemed to startle the two men whom where brandished from head to toe in heavy cobalt plate armor. Adorned on their heads the cultural helms of the Etzori, a finned and brimmed steel hat with feathers sticking out of one end. Their billowing mustaches seemed to be quite the style around these parts.

“Natural moral law and human moral law are completely diffe--” Gangui cut his sentence short and reined his horse back with his fighting companion, “Woah!” A metallic finger pointed at the tree towards the Tunawa who was yelling. He would never have spotted her if she hadn’t hollered down at them.

“I don’t see anything!” Caoindelbhan exclaimed squinted up into the trees, also reigning in his horse.

Gangui shrugged at his companion, but then beckoned towards the tiny creature in the tree, “Come down here Tunawa!”

The tiny creature went silent for a moment but soon called back. “Why do you want me down? So you can make me a slave like dis girl has done to dis tunawa!” the tunawa folded its arms defiantly.

The little girl on the ground seemed stunned at the sudden arrival of a tunawa that could talk and her face stayed in a paralyzed state of shock and amazement.

Gangui looked at Caoin with a puzzled look. Slaves? What an absurd thought for anyone in Foster’s Landing to have!? Well, it wasn’t that strange of a thought, but not for the likes of Sons of Justice to engage in, “HA!” he guffawed and showed to the tiny creature in the tree the Turkey symbol on his tabard, “We free slaves! Whether they like it or not!” Caoindelbhan joined in with Gangui’s laughter, perhaps too chevalier for the little Tunawa in the tree who seemed brimming with emotion.

“Den you should punish dis girl and free her pet!” The tunawa pointed her tiny finger at the petrified little girl.

“But...Daisy likes being my pet.” The little’s lover lip began to quiver and tears welled up in her eyes.

“Lies!” Niv shouted back defiantly.

Gangui took a deep breath and swung his leg over the saddle, heavy metal feet plopping on the cold hard ground. He motioned to Caoin, telling him not to bother dismounting. Stepping up to the little girl who was crying, Gangui knelt in front of her and smiled (albeit it was hidden under his moustache). “Little girl, where is your father? We need to talk to him,”

“I’m not in trouble am I,” the little girl asked timidly.

“Yes! Big big trouble!” the tunawa interjected with a shake of the fist.

Gangui was exceptionally terrible with children. The only interaction he had with a child in the recent past was when he was charged with taking care of Finn for a short period of time. Instead of raising him up with good morals, he accidently made him a killer, regrettably. The stigma of these actions really affected his outlook on children. He thought that if he tried to actually be a real parent he’d just make things worse, so he treated the girl like any other woman (albeit with a little less base in his voice)

“Hurry up and get your father!” Gangui eyes widened. He raised a hand motioning to spank her behind for added effect.

The little girl ran away immediately with tears in her eyes and snot streaming down her face and onto her dress. This left Gangui kneeling there with the pet tunawa on the floor next to him with another one in the tree full of unbridled righteous anger.

Caoin face-palmed hard.

Niv liked this mustached man, he scared that little girl far better than she could ever do. When the little girl left Niv jumped to the ground but still kept her distance, she’d been fooled before by a tall folk she wasn’t about to let that happen again.

“Are you okay?” Niv asked in Xanthea to the tunawa slave below.

“Yes..” The Pet responded meekly in their shared language and looked up at the mustached man.

Niv looked back up at the man “Dank you sir, My name is Niv.” She beat a fist hard against her chest as a sign of respect to a fellow liberator.

The metallic tall folk opted to stay kneeling. His mouatche bellowed, “Well met Niv! I am Gangui of the Sons of Justice and this is my trusty friend Caoindelbhan,” He pointed a thick gauntleted finger towards the man on the horse who merely tipped his hat silently, “Unfortunately, it is not over yet. Freeing slaves is a lot trickier than simply waving a sword. Are you going to take care of her now? We don’t know the whole story Niv.”

“Take care of her? Dis is a Man he can take care of himself.” Niv grumbled, she was well aware that Tall Folk sometimes couldn’t tell the difference but it still irked her every time someone made that mistake.

“I don’t know about Tunawa!” Gangui said with a tinge of defense in his voice, “HE could be an infant for all I know!”

The other tunawa whispered his age in Xantean. “He’s a 9 arc old man, he is fully capable of taking care of himself. He doesn’t need some girl putting him in lady clothes.” Niv translated to the man in common while sporting a firmly pinched brow.

The metal giant nodded, seemingly heeding her words, but it seemed the tunawa was quick with retorts, “Alas, there is one other possibility Niv, that this Tunawa is a criminal paying off his debt to society or an indentured servant. Are you sure this … er.. man is innocent?”

Niv looked at the other tunawa with a narrowing gaze. “Are you wearing a dress as punishment for your thievery?” Niv interrogated threateningly in her native tongue “This man with the moss under his lip seems to think you might be.”

“No, no I innocent” The tunawa shook his head in a rush. “Captured as sprout not remember home, not remember name.”

“He says he’s innocent and I believe him.” Niv replied defiantly to the man.

The tall folk’s gaze turned up from them and down the road towards the little girl and her father storming towards them, “Niv, if you want this to go smoothly I’d suggest you shut up,”

“Shut up what?” Niv responded with confusion at the foreign phrase.

Gangui stood up now exhaling loudly and shaking his arms. He wanted to believe the little people, but he had a position to uphold and ideals to fulfill. He could not dispense justice without evidence and the only way he was going to get any in this situation was to hear it straight from the lips of the girl’s father. The man that approached was a Eol-man by the looks of it. (In Ith’ession Eol-man was one of the skilled workers at the dock) Resting a gauntleted hand on the hilt of the dagger in his belt, Gangui greeted the man, “I am Gangui, leader of the Sons of Justice,”

“This is fucking bullshit!” the man spouted in Ith’ession.

“Calm down!” began in the same language.

“I am out here training my daughter to be a patriot and use her bow and you make her cry over, over misbegotten accusations from a foreign Small.” The venom in his voice as he spoke Niv’s racial name in common could be felt from miles away.

“I beg you sir! Use reason and logic to proceed!” Gangui quickly retorted in a stern and commanding voice, “You will calm down!”

There was an uneasy moment when all the parties involved stared at each other when suddenly the little girl began to cry again, making the Eol-man hug her and try to console her.

“I apologize sir, for your daughter... but you must tell me where you got your pet Tunawa,”

“We bought him off one of the merchants down at port--” The man didn’t even finish the sentence when a giant smile plastered on Gangui’s face. Bingo! The man admitted guilt without a fight.

“You bought a slave!?” Caoin hollered from atop the horse in common.

“It is not a slave, just as your horse is not your slave,” The man retorted.

The tunawa Niv shook with rage at the ignorant man’s statement. “You’re a rude man!” The little one hollard at the man and picked up a pebble and threw it in his general direction.

“Nay! Any being with a soul in Idalos who renounces the Immortals are free men in Etzos. Sir. We are freeing this Tunawa immediately and charging you a 10 gold fine for contributing to the slave trade!”

“What? The slave trade?!” The man shouted back defiantly. “it’s just a bloody tunawa? Nearly every little girl in Rynmere has a pet tunawa?!”

“H’TH GAMOK RYNMERE!” The rolling Ith’ession sounds more harsh than ever. This wasn’t Rynmere, “I am tired of hearing that around here! Rynmere supports the Immortals and we don’t. This is the end of it. No Tunawa pets in Foster’s Landing. And if that wasn’t clear earlier, then I am making it law now!”

The fire in his eyes albeit from the anger sprouted from nationalistic feelings, achieved aligning goals with Niv, “You are lucky I am only fining you 10 gold for your crimes. Remember that. I could imprison you for owning a slave!”

The man grumbled, shoved ten gold into Gangui’s hand, and grabbed his crying daughter marching off towards where they were having a picnic.

Caoindelbhan chuckled atop his horse.

This man seemed to have more hatred of slavery than Niv, which odd considering he was likely not a worshiper of Ashan. In fact the distaste of immortals seemed to be heard in nearly every statement he made. The tunawa wondered if Etzos had met a horrible beast like Lissara or the mysteriously cruel Edasha. It would likely explain why everyone here seemed to hate them, she didn’t want this new potential ally from distrusting her so she would keep her lips tight of her devotion and hide her blessing marks.

“Thank you, Kind sirs.” Niv smiled at Gangui and then at Caoindelbhan. “The other tunawa thanks you as well.”

The metal giant knelt down again as quickly as the anger had surged into him it disappeared quietly. He placed the gold piece on the floor, right at the newly freed Tunawa’s feet, “Take this gold and start your new life. If you would allow me, I would name you Frimen, for today you are a free man under the Etzori law!”

“Go forth and tell all the Tunawa in Foster’s Landing what you witnessed here Frimen! From this day onward the Sons of Justice will not allow Tunawa pets in our port!” Gangui was quick to make decisions it seemed and even quickly to dispense orders. Niv wondered why. “And you Niv, we need more good women like you around, have you considered a career in law?” Caoin facepalmed in the background for some reason.

“I do now!” Niv quickly agreed with a bright smile. “Dis turkey group you have sounds like a group I would love to be a part of.”

Niv turned to Frimen. “How about you Frimen do you want in?”

The other tunawa didn’t say anything, he simply nodded. He was clearly the timid sort of few words.

“I’ll help you find a better dress den the one you have now, dat little girl had terrible taste.” Niv snorted to herself “almost as bad as her aim.”

“Verily!” Gangui said as he stood to his feet, “A commitment to the Sons of Justice is a very big one indeed. We have a lot to talk about. Would you ride with us to your command center and we can get you squared away, we pay for everything, including a new dress!”

He reached out a gauntleted hand towards Niv and realized his hand was bigger than her entire body. Coughing, he instead extended an index finger.

Niv pumped her fist against the extended finger. “Deal tall folk.”

“Hear that Frimen, your getting a new dress.” Niv added in Xanthean to the other tunawa, who responded with a faint smile.

Comments: Okay, so... A few things.

Niv, you know I love reading that adorable little Tuna. BUT you have to spellcheck, man. It's so good, but little issues glare out and ruin the flow. The PC is amazing, and you know I love her, but please. For me.

Gangui, I like him more and more the more I read him. The turkey thing gets me EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Overall, cool thread, I love Free Niv. #MakeNivFreeAgain
