At the mention of Volareon, Velaine perked up the slightest bit. She had heard of the creatures, of course, but never had the chance to actually see one in real life. While she wanted to ask more about the Warrick’s work, she doubted this was the suitable time or place.

“And to their continued health, but insistence on early retirement, then.”

Velaine regarded Oliver’s knowing smile with an innocent smile of her own. She didn’t rebuff his comment either. As far as she could tell, Oliver was also the heir to his family’s barony. An heir to another, it was probably a useless gesture to deny the fact she would not mind taking her parents’ seat as soon as possible.

When the conversation turned briefly to mages, Velaine took another sip of wine from her glass. She had heard this sort of talk all the time – even back when she had only arrived home. Enough so that she didn’t even balk at these people’s obvious wariness about magic. Sophia Krome had been even more loud in her opinions about the disgusting mages. Rynmere’s of magic somehow had gotten more radical when she had gone to Ne’haer. It wasn’t a surprise for her anymore. It just served as a dreadful reminder that she needed to keep her secrets close.

Still, the pleasant drink now tasted a bit bitterer.

To her surprise, their group got another addition and it turned out to be Xander. It’s a bit disconcerting to watch everyone acting so respectful to her brother. He did hold the highest title amongst them, a baron in the midst of lords and ladies. “Xander, it is great to see you. Is Celeste with you?” Velaine made a point to scan the crowd, trying to spot the pregnant Andaris. They already had the chance to talk a few trials ago and the woman had certainly seemed exhausted with the whole ordeal. “Thank you, brother. And don’t worry, Nathaniel and I have been getting along very well.”

When Xander offered his box to Oliver, Velaine was reminded of her own donation to make. What she had scraped up was probably nothing compared to what the other nobles were offering. The young woman had tried to convince her father to cough up a bit more nel just to keep up appearances, but she had gotten an unsurprising no. What she got was what she could spare from her own purse.

She bid her time, waiting for the right moment and to make sure she wouldn’t cut off any conversations.

The greetings all took place as would be expected and as Oliver shook his hand he explained who Charlotte was. Xander raised his eyebrows to the discovery and bowed sort of half way to the Lady who introduced herself again. It was an interesting pairing.

"My apologies Lady Warrick, I did not know, please excuse my neglectful action." He righted his stance once again straight and firm. While he had made a mistake in not making more effort to learn her name to begin with but he tried not to let it come across that he felt foolish in that moment.

"Celeste is okay, she is tired but she is healthy and the child is due in Cylus Lord Venora. As for the sex of the babe well that is up to the fates. The doctors do say there is potential for more than one though." He smiled answering the question about the pregnancy with quite a content expression. This also answered in part Velaine's question about Celeste's where abouts.

It was interesting to learn that the Warrick was a skyrider. However before he could ask her more about it Nathaniel's voice cut through in response to his earlier greeting to Velaine. "I have no doubt Nathaniel," he used the man's first name as he had incorrectly used his, "I would expect any worthwhile Lord to do as much for their future wife and potential house." He had not intended to offend his future brother-in-law but apparently it was done now.

In fact the tone of the voice that the Endor had used was far too obvious, in fact it was embarrassing. In politics control was important and at this moment the man was not showing it, feel what you please inside but do not express it so others have a toy to play with. It was a shame Xander hoped it was not a common occurrence.

"So Lady Warrick. You said you were a skyrider, that is a noble profession, one I can certainly admire you for pursuing." Xander was generally interested in this, military related topics were something he was quite well versed in. "How do you find the role?"

Nathaniel idled on the information provided by Charlie about the Skyriders. He found the service to be honorable. She had certainly gained a token or two of respect from him because of it. Nathaniel believed in the Crown and its goals. His own role was admirable in his opinion. Reform the criminals by making them complete hard work in the Endor mines and then send them back out into the world once their time had been served. Lady Warrick was completing her service with Endor iron. In a way, they were both supporting the crown. "A Volareon is a proud beast, or so I heard. It will be a great honor upon your house once you earn one; the Kingdom thanks you for your service Lady Warrick."

The interactions had drastically changed from when Xander arrived; Nathaniel couldn't help but notice the lack of finesse he had when negotiating the world of nobles. Velaine had impressed him when taking charge in the betrothal negotiations; her brother was an entirely different story. Nathaniel was not silver-tongued wizard either, but he felt that he had least had a little bit more common sense under his belt to acknowledge all within the circle. He said nothing, taking one of the wine glasses that Bria had brought on her platter and set his empty one down. Venoran red was a solid wine.

He had little to offer since the conversation yet again returned to Lady Warrick and the Skyriders. Nathaniel used that moment to lean down and whisper into Velaine's ear. He wanted her to know where he was going before he made his departure from the group. His voice was soft yet gravely, still irritated by the encounter that was just had. "I am going to excuse myself. I just need a bit of fresh air."

Straightening up, sure to have drawn attention for his private conversations, Nathaniel offered a smile to the remaining company. "I need to excuse myself for a moment. Before I do so," He rummaged a hand into his clothing, withdrawing a less than pristine envelope from within. "...this is a donation on behalf of Velaine and I. Thank you for hosting this gala Oliver. The people will appreciate the generosity generated by this event."

He had felt alright with using the first names of the gentleman present. Oliver seemed nice enough to classify as a friend, even if their encounters had been strictly political up to this point. Xander was arguably family, or soon-to-be. He turned to Charlie, not as familiar with her. "Sergeant Warrick. I hope we meet again soon."

Nathaniel offered Velaine's hand a polite squeeze, unsure if it was appropriate for a public display of affection this early on in the evening. Then, he quietly bowed out of the conversation, seeking the nearest balcony for some fresh air.

1000 GN donation on behalf of Nathaniel and Velaine removed from Nate's ledger. I'm bowing out of this one. Nate feels a wee bit uncomfortable and claustrophobic! Hit me up for further threads!

The warm smile that coated Oliver's mouth stretched wide, showing the pristine white of his straight teeth beneath. He reached out and gripped Baron Andaris' elbow, offering a sincere nod with the warm smile. It was always nice to hear that the unborn child and mother were both doing well, and if Oliver remembered anything from his encounters with Celeste in his youth, the woman's mental and emotional fortitude would keep that child safe and secure, even in trying times such as these.

"My most sincere congratulations, Baron Andaris. Though without heirs myself, I know the importance, both personally and politically, of fatherhood. May mother and child find excessive health and happiness when the time comes," Oliver offered, nodding again as he finished. He watched as Nathaniel excused himself, a well-manicured but strong hand gripping Nathaniel's before he left. Oliver looked around, observing the state of the party as it continued, and he smiled. Things were starting to pick up, and soon, Master Malero would be there and it would be time to surprise Darcy. A smile split his face again, though this time not at one of the guests before.

"Actually, I myself must be away. The burden of hosting never ends, am I right?" He asked the remaining participants, a bright green in his eyes. He squeezed Charlotte's hand briefly, leaning in to offer her a 'Don't stay away too long,' before he kissed Lady Velaine's hand and shook Baron Andaris. He was sure it would not be the last time that evening that he would see any of them.

Charlotte Warrick
Charlie couldn't help the slight quirk of her lips as Xander Andaris bowed slightly before her. Her eyes flickered to Oliver, seeing his face a mask of smooth composure, but she knew enough to see the satisfaction that hid behind the facade. Turning to Xander, she smiled graciously.

"It is no trouble, my lord. There are far too many of us here tonight for any of us to remember everyone's names. Fates, sometimes I almost forget my own name," she said, chuckling, taking another sip of the beer. It wasn't a particularly funny joke, but she'd had a few ales, and after the dry politics of the evening, it did not take much to amuse Charlie.

Charlie smiled at Nathaniel's kind words, curtseying slightly as the noble took his leave. "Lord Endor, a pleasure, truly. I hope to see you again." Charlie watched the man go, before turning back to Xander to answer his question. "Very good, my lord. It is an honour to serve the Crown on behalf of Warrick, and," she said, grinning childishly, "being able to fly isn't half bad either." Charlie looked to Oliver, smiling warmly. Perhaps he didn't remember it, but Charlie remembered a certain young man encouraging her to fly.

She startled at his words, but nodded at his murmured voice. "I will find you soon," she said, squeezing his forearm where she had laid his hand, before then removing her hand, allowing him to leave. There was a moment of silence, and Charlie looked between Velaine and Xander, suddenly embarrassed at being alone with the siblings without Oliver there.

"I will, too, take my leave. I plan to find Oliver for the dance. But it was ever so wonderful to meet you both," she said, smiling. She was about to leave, and then hesitated. "My Lady Velaine, if you are interested in knowing more about the Skyriders and what we do, I teach an archery class at the Rynmere University Sports Club. You can find me there." With that, she was gone.

This was a great event. We all had a lot of fun being proper nobles together. This meeting of future spouses was particularly entertaining, if only because there's that delicate matter of almost betrothal to deal with. Love it. The subtle word play and all of Velaine's inner thoughts on Nate are delicious, and everyone here brought their big personalities together into one thread. Velaine navigates the conversation with her typical grace and very well-practiced subtlety. Well-written!
