14th of Zi’da
It was midday when Paplo finally decided to try his new toy. Tatania, the woman that had promised him she’d marry him, had gifted him a bullwhip in hopes of him pleasing her fantasies in the bedroom. That had sparked his interest; not the sexual fantasies of the female, but the whip. The teacher had seen the whip in action in the past, mostly against cattle, but it intrigued him. Humans were his cattle. As such, he managed to ask around and find himself a more deadlier version of a bullwhip; a barbed whip. The metal spikes promised to bring pain. The seller, one of the Cattleshtack, had looked at him funny, especially since Paplo was to be the owner and director of the Etzori Orphanage.
“Do you plan on hitting the kids or what?” he had asked, surely then spreading the news to all town.

Paplo had not made any comment about it, and he had refused to purchase the weapon for the sake of keeping appearances. He already had his bullwhip. Instead, the teacher had faked a laugh and had quickly moved out of the premises of the town, looking for a proper location in which to test his new weapon. The fields were deserted now that the cold was here. Most men either picked up an axe and headed to the woods for wood, or they stayed within Middlecleft. Some helped the building of the orphanage, to which Paplo was grateful. Even if they hated him, they supported his cause. For now. After some walking, Paplo slipped within the forest, and found a clearing soon enough. The terrain was bare, but it was firm, and the trees were far away from the center of said clearing. He undressed his cloak and his jacket, his shirt and even his shoes, now completely bare save for the pants. At last, he found himself ready to familiarize himself with this new weapon.

Paplo unrolled the whip, and felt its weight. The whip itself was made by a series of braided leather strips, growing thicker the closer it was to the solid handle. Said handle was solid, indeed, and upon pressing down upon it, he felt it was not merely leather. Whatever it was, it was there. Most of the weight was upon said handle, which was large enough to have plenty of space for the palm of his hand. At the end was a loop, which he imagined was to wrap around one’s wrist and avoid the whip from slipping out. The length of the whip was plain, beautiful in its braiding but lacking any eye-drawing detail. At the end of the length was what professionals called the fall, nothing but a thin strip that caused most of the damage, as far as he could tell.

The first motion he did was that of tugging back the handle in a circular, outward motion. The whip obeyed far more than expected; the tug had sent the fall way back, overactive in its movement. It was… peculiar. It was time to crack it. With the length of the whip stretched behind him, in a straight line, Paplo’s arm stretched out and drew a semicircle in the air, doing so with the most speed he could. The whip followed, but there was no crack at all. In fact, it was like trying to strike someone with a rope; an inferior rope due to the lost width the further away the length was from the handle. Disappointment. Paplo tugged at the handle and returned the length behind him. This time, he pretended he was to throwing a rock rather than using a flail, his arm tracing the straightest trajectory forth it could manage. The result was much better, the length of the whip following suit and slashing the air before him. There was a semblance of a crack. Weak, but more or less acceptable.

The male did the motion again and again, faster and slower, but there was little improvement. What was wrong? Only when the motion was done with half-interest and a lighthearted approach there was any improvement. As such, Paplo tried once again, not paying too much attention to his action, but it was, once again, disappointing. He tried and tried, and were he able to grow frustrated, he would. At last, when he tried for perhaps the twentieth time, that a crack came. It wasn’t too loud, but it was definitely a crack, and Paplo knew how he had done it. It was the wrist what had done most of the motion. He tried again, now helping the motion with said wrist, flicking it, and the crack was heard once again, louder. A few more attempts, and it was clear to him that the arm only helped with the weight, the shoulder helped with the motion, and the wrist what helped the whip crack.

Boom. Boom. Boom.

The overhand flick came over and over again, louder and louder as the male gained experience. What a peculiar tool, he thought.

Now that the motion of the wrist proved to be the main component of cracking, Paplo changed his grip. Having held the handle by the middle, as any other weapon, his palm now slid down, grabbing it as lowest as it could manage. The thumb came forth, and so the leverage was increased greatly. It felt awkward, but another crack - a very loud one - proved it was the right choice to make. Another round of cracking, trying to get used to the motion. Each strike brought a light tingle for the man’s senses, who enjoyed watching this strange tool work its marvel. It was another sort of magic, another unexplained event like the clouds in the sky - which sometimes brought rain and sometimes didn’t - or the ocean’s whimsical movements. Sometimes, he’d stop and stay in place, listening far away at that roaring water striking the coast. The battle always raged on, and never stopped.

The overhead flick was practiced enough, and so Paplo tried to experiment. He’d swing the whip here and there, unexperienced, and often struck himself rather than cut the air. Nothing worked, expect the overhead flick. It wasn’t as simple as it had looked for the Cattleshtack, who wielded these tools with such ease it was almost hypnotizing to watch. Paplo, on the other hand, deserved to be stoned by his ridiculous performance. Not even clowns from the circus would laugh at such a bad jest. Paplo, frustrated, took a break. He dropped the whip and trolled around the grove. A couple of bugs, some lost worms, and a very pretty flower, all ended in his maws. He chewed on them absentmindedly, his attention split between the secrets of the whip and the lack of fodder in Middlecleft.

Assaulting his fellow orphans, his future wife, his only friends Ollipo or Mallina, or anyone else, would put the population on edge. That was not his intention. Middlecleft had been studied and chosen due to its high production of food. The orphanage his excuse into the factory of food the town was. His wife was chosen because of her home’s proximity with the walls. The plan was still to feed from the Cattleshtacks’ livestock in the night. However, some details were not accounted for. The guards were many, and the milita’s patrols were done each night and in great numbers. The gates were closed and guards were posted to protect them, and being seen outside during the night would spread even more bad rumours about him. Climbing to the rooftops, over the walls, and into the Cattleshtack’s complex. Tonight he’d have to try it; he couldn’t survive with some few basic meals.

For the time being, Paplo returned to his whip. He’d raise it with a hand, and slammed it down in an attempt of a more simplistic crack. He had seen it done, and yet his whip did not crack; instead, the popper lost control and smacked him in the face. He tried again, bringing the whip even higher. It was only when it was brought high enough, and the whip’s length was behind the male, that the posterior slam of the length produced a crack, and thus, became effective. The motion was repeated again, and the notion began settling within his mind.

The initiation into the new weapon was finished now. Paplo would’ve began dressing up again when, instead, he remained on the spot, patting his stomach. Perhaps he shouldn’t have eaten that flower. In the past, when his hunt for fodder had not been successful, the mortalborn had tried to eat trees, glass and quite the wide variety of flora. His body assimilated them, of course, but the effects were always adverse. It acted as poison on him, perhaps due to biological reasons he was never qualified enough to comprehend. Standing there, patting his stomach, Paplo took a deep breath before he leaned forth and barfed. A thick paste escaped his maws, burning like acid. It was definitely the flower, for he could taste the bitter flavour that now lingered around his palate. The action had been the right one nonetheless, as now his stomach settled down. He’d find some more bugs before heading back.

An idea came to him as he looked at the vomited paste. A new, inventive way of storing items. Blue eyes flickered towards the whip; it was a challenge, but it could be tried. His stomach was rarely used, anyway, for his body prefered to absorb nutrients directly, bypassing the slow and inefficient digestive system. With this sick concept lodged into his mind, Paplo took a hold of the whip. The end or the handle? It mattered not. He began with the handle, shoving it into his mouth and simply gulping it down, without chewing, letting it slide down within his stomach. For a creature as versed in the manipulation of his form, this action felt quite alien. The sack that was his stomach seemed to accommodate the tool as it came, perhaps either due to his evershifting shape or, perhaps, because of pure biological coincidence. Regardless, almost four feet were swallowed by now. The handle was the first portion, too large for a common mouth, but not for Paplos’. He’d force it in, his jaws opening beyond the point nature intended, but without any trouble.

The handle was caught into his esophagus, to which Paplo had to bang on his chest to help it down. It didn’t work, so instead he allowed his perfect organism to do the work for him. Puck. He knew that sound. It was the sound of the leather falling onto itself. Paplo would’ve chuckled were he the one observing such a strange design, yet he being as gloriously superior as he was warranted nothing but a twisted feeling of praise and pride. He moved around now, walking here and there, jumping, leaning to one side of the other, swaying… The whip was settled in nicely, and despite moving within him, he could get used to it. Now it was time to extract it. Paplo tried to vomit it, but it didn’t work. Nothing came out. He tried again. At this point in his life, he didn’t need to use fingers or any physical contact with himself to cause such a harsh contraction by his body. Regardless, nothing came out.

Frustrated, Paplo raised his hand. His digits became claws now, and with those claws, he’d tear a hole within his midsection, beneath the rib cage. He dug and dug, tearing here and there in search of the stomach, but, surprisingly, no blood came out from the hole in his chest. He was controlling it, absorbing it before it could escape. Eventually, those clawed fingers found the whip, and extracted it from within himself. A bit coated in blood, but otherwise functional. It smelled like stomach acids. The clawed digits began fading away as his body took care of the damage, automatically so. Not ten thrills later and he was back to being a shirtless man holding a smelly whip, not a hint of a scar within his midsection.

Now, he’d swallow the whip again, but this time leaving the handle for last. The process was not exactly pleasant nor smooth, but it was a process nonetheless. Puck. The handle settled within his stomach. Again he’d attempt regurgitation, and this time, with much more success. The stomach must’ve stirred just right, or the handle had to be placed in just the right way, for he felt the handle creeping up his esophagus, like a wagon following a downhill road. It came smoothly to his mouth, from where he’d take the handle and pull out the whip. This was his hidden weapon, and he’d attempt to crack it, imagining he had been sneaking up on delicious looking somebody. Something must’ve been done wrong, because the whip did crack, but it also came back to smack him in the face.

Maybe that’s what happened when one was so foul.

Regardless, his new weapon bag was a success, and his stomach now had a proper use. Swallowing the whip again, Paplo finished his morning by donning his suit once more and returning to Middlecleft. Hopefully nobody else had died in the construction of his orphanage.
