1st of Ashan, Arc 718
"Alright. So - back to the fundamentals. The sixth, disarm them. Fight them on your terms," Damien recited, remembering exactly as Kian had described to him just moments prior. Before the conversation had derailed... as it commonly did with the two of them. Kian nodded, remembering how significant a tenant this was. This was how he would defeat Ellasin - a fundamental of Krenn Maii, whether or not he actually pulled his knuckles out into the fight.
"The seventh fundamental," the younger mage began, "Be willing to use anything as a weapon and fight dirty if necessary. Hit foes when they're down, throw sand in their eyes, avoid 'honor' as a concept that applies to battle," he preached, before kneeling onto the ground and scooping up the greyish dirt that permeated the floors of southwestern Oakleigh. Then, with a devious and ridiculous look, he threw the handful at Damien's completely suspecting face. And of course, the Lich dodged.
"Ugh," Damien rolled his eyes. "I wanted an apprentice, but I got a child," he scoffed. "Ali -- Kian -- you've gotten about two generations more youthful since you became an exile. You handling it all well, or is this just a coping mechanism?" he asked, only half-seriously. The mage shrugged.
"Bit of both, I'd say," he responded. "I'm trying to enjoy what I have. This ranch, Cappola, is what I've got now in Rynmere. I used to rule one of the largest holdings in the country, but things... they change. They move on. Cappola is my castle now, and the ranches of Oakleigh are my Kingdom. At least until I reclaim everything I lost," he stated, nodding, with something of a small and insincere smile.
Damien was... intrigued. "You plan on reclaiming it, then? Venora? Your name? I don't think it will ever happen," he spoke, bluntly.
Kian nodded. "It may happen. I just need to kill Ebony, depose the King, topple the Faith of Rynlism, slaughter my parents and... yeah. You might think it's ridiculous, but honestly, I'm not the man I used to be. I'm ready to spill blood. By the hundreds of thousands if I have to. That Kingdom has become unjust, immoral under that wretched King. He's arbitrary, cold, and disloyal to his own subjects. He has no blood of the Great Houses. I will never, ever allow myself peace at the thought of his rule. I'm not letting him live."
So, there it was: the declaration. Alistair had not fully moved on, he was still there. Kian was just the instrument of his own vengeance; a name to hide the history.
"Anyway," he attempted to bring the conversation forward, "the seventh fundamental: use any weapon, any trick. Honor is meaningless - death is the final end. I'd rather throw dirt in a man's eye and be called a cheat than have a sword shoved through my throat. Krenn Maii is looking more and more worthy of my time," he stated.
Now, he moved forward. Fundamental eight. This was the last one.
"Fight ruthlessly - never stop your aggression unless you have to. So, basically, punch, kick, elbow, knee the skin from their bones. Go on, and on, and on. I like that. Consider that fundamental cleared," he nodded, smirking.
