Deepwater Caverns

In the lighter grasslands, between Yaralon proper and the swamps of Maiden's Refuge, is a hidden entrance that none but the most trusted members of the Death Nel Raiders know exist. This entrance leads into a dark, rocky tunnel that can prove treacherous to those who've never traveled it. It's the only known entrance into Deepwater Caverns, one that the members often grumble about, but the security is essential. It keeps out monsters and beasts of all sorts, at least the biggest ones. But more importantly it keeps out mercenaries away from the resources, and the families, of the Death Nel Raiders.

Deepwater Caverns is massive, and is home to one of the only pure water sources in the entire Yaralon region. The water there is cleaner and more pure than even rainfall. The underground lake is fed by an underwater spring that is filtered through several layers of rare stone. This stone not only filters out the standard particles of dirt and sand and rock, but it filters out poisons, bacteria, viruses, even the corruption from the presence of the Major Fractures and the corruption they bring.

The lake is several hundred meters wide, and the cavern surrounds it. The Death Nel Raiders, their family members, and other villagers live in huts around the edge. The lake keeps several species of cave fish, some large, but the dangerous ones were all killed off by the Raiders. Swimming, fishing, bathing, lovemaking, etc are all allowed and encouraged in the lake. The stone that holds the lake continuously filters the water, so there's never been a worry of contamination.

The villagers here that aren't members of the mercenary company are those who've been born here. Some of these people are citizens of Yaralon, but many have never left the cavern. Many don't even desire to do so. These villagers survive both because of the resources the Raiders bring in, and in return, they keep the location a secret. They work happily for the raiders having a small society of their own, but it is a simple one. They might have seamstresses and fishermen and healers, but in terms of pure skill, these people do not compare to those that compete in the same professions every single trial in Yaralon proper. It is a quaint life, an easy life, and for many who've experienced the horror of the Yaralon wildlife.

The primary source of income for the village itself is the water. The Deepwater and the Blood Water from Bastards' Grove are the only major sources of untainted water in the Yaralon region. There are many other sources, but all are not perfectly suited to drink as these are. The water is carried out on the backs of those that travel back and forth, in barrels or packs full of waterskins.

NPCs
