Tulias was born on 23rd of Ashan, 697 in a clutch of four eggs from parents Nitalia and Lucius. His three siblings would not make it past their first winter however as their tribe was stricken with a devastating famine. His parents believed Tulias was the strongest and most likely to survive, so they prioritized care for him. Life in the tribe was harsh, the land and surrounding peoples were constantly changing, but the tribe never did. They held fast to old traditions, which often costed them dearly. Tulias's relationship with his parents was a very mixed bag. His father was a war veteran and mother was a prized hunter and therefore were worthy of honor and respect but as Tulias grew older, they would be away, outside of the tribe for longer and longer. No one knew where they would go and neither did they ever return with something useful to the tribe. In time, other tribe members began talking. Tulias on the other hand, once he came of age, became a valued member of the tribe and their most prized hunter and in times of need, their fiercest warrior. His time with his tribe came to an end however when his parents came home one evening, baring strange satchels, and out of one of them stuck a glass flask that appeared to be filled with something, but Tulias at the time could not make out what. He also noticed them behaving very strangely. They had always been the odd ones of the tribe, but now seemed more so. When he asked, they refused to acknowledge any odd behavior. This led him to look for council in some of the older tribe members who seemed to be immediately alarmed by Tulias's findings and sent Tulias and some of the tribe's best fighters to his parent's home to detain them and search their belongings, which they succeeded. What they found that night shook the tribe to its very core. Books, letters, and multiple vials of mysterious substances all linking back to a cult going by 'The Black Dawn', a group of Lisirra worshippers. There was even a letter giving orders to Nitalia and Lucius to afflict their tribe with a new and deadly disease. The next day they were put to death by beheading, the papers and books, burned. Without knowing the nature of the substances in the vials, the only thing the tribe could do was contain them in a locked chest and bury it in the wilderness, hoping it never got disturbed. The last order of business was Tulias's fate. Tulias was the spawn of Nitalia and Lucius and by all rights, he was just as responsible for what would have been a massacre, but Tulias plead with his elders. If he had not spoken up about his parents, not only with the tribe have died, but he would have to. He was loyal to his tribe and believed in Ethelynda. In the end, they decided to take pity on Tulias, but would not take chances. He would not be put to death, but his time with the tribe was still over. He was exiled.
For a while, Tulias simply lived out on the road, never staying in one place for very long, and living off of the land. Eventually he encountered other travelers, humans. Brothers named Todd and Anthony. They were merchants traveling to a nearby city. He found these smaller beings rather odd and quickly grew curious of them, traveling with them for a time. They were not warriors like he was, but for some reason Tulias grew found of them and even became quite protective of them in times of danger. Eventually however, it came time to part ways. Tulias however was still very curious of humans and decided he would travel to other human settlements. Per Anthony's suggestion, Tulias decided to become a mercenary to help with funding for his travels. An occupation Tulias found himself to be very good at, but soon discovered that not all humans were as nice or praise worthy as the brothers. In fact, his occupation tended to drag up very shady clients. This did not suit Tulias very much and soon started refusing certain jobs. After a time, he became bored of this and started wanting more out of life and himself.
He saw an opportunity for change and self-improvement one day when he heard about the city of Viden and its academy. He had never heard of such a place before, but if what he heard was true, there would be no end to the new things he could learn and he could continue to support himself as a mercenary. People of brawn were of high demand, but of short supply there, or so the rumor went. It seemed like a golden opportunity to Tulias.
