Kalortah had landed in Almund in the days between his studies at the Scalvoris University. He had heard of the roughneck town on the western coast of Scalvoris from a pair of locals who were swapping tales of a place called the Siren’s Embrace. When he heard of the title of the place, he didn’t think to inquire further but presumed it to be a theatre of some kind.
This was a good chance to spread his reputation across Scalvoris.
So days later, he arrived in the western town, and swiftly found the well appointed establishment. There at the door he was met by Madam Yuloen, who he presumed to be a stage manager of sorts. And an avriel to boot! Kalortah could feel his luck shifting already. ”Hello Madam. I have the honor of being Kalortah Satravial, from Athart. I’ve come to ask about performing at your fine place. I’m a master vocalist, with a wide selection of my own songs to sing. If you’ll let me, I’ll give an audition right now…”
”Ah…” She hummed, crossing her chest and looking him up and down. He wore a deep red, fancy velvet suit with matching valance that had black lining. His cosmetics were of good quality, yet haphazardly applied. Still, they were lacking a singer.
”Alright, sire. We’ll give you a chance…” She cheerfully beamed at him, taking him softly by the arm and leading him into the common area, where the workers were entertaining the guests.
She led him over toward a raised section of the floor, that was typically held for burlesque and strip shows by the women and men who worked there. Right now it was unoccupied and ready for him to perform to the patrons.
”So,” She whispered to him, ”Go ahead darling songbird. Give us a song.” So saying, she took some steps back and then turned to give him a listen.
Kalortah nodded in her direction, and cleared his throat in an effort to try and calm his nerves. Within a few moments, he began his song. It was one he’d devised in Egilrun, while sparring with the Naer Navyri. Albeit with a small alteration, based on information from her:
"Through windless fields
and scouring sands
Zma sought the heart of wind."
"Though by his creator spurned,
and His brothers exiled
Zma brought judgement to Him."
"Divine breath upon the grasses
of that distant plain,
Zma bore no ill thoughts
Nor burden of sin."
"When the Calamity saw Zma wingless,
though he came not to offend,
The Unbroken One's fate
Brought shame only to his kin."
He continued for some moments, repeating the ballad at times and chanting between refrains. He gave a good amount of variation to his vocal range, to give Yuloen a sampling of his prowess at singing.
