Knives was born on the first day of Cylus to a pair of loving parents. "Butcher's", a locally renowned restaurant, was filled with the cheerful voices of celebration as the owners had their first and only son Saimson. The gleeful customers would always ask after the new addition and everyone knew Saimson as he grew. He always took a liking to food, from the first moment he could chew on it. Later on, the couple employed their son, first as a server and cashier but later as a cook after seeing his desire to follow his passion. Knives loved his work. He loved the smells and the tastes, the knives and the boards, pans and pots, the shouts and whistles, grunts and taps. His parents would often catch him playing stabberscotch or throwing knives at trees and punish him for playing with dangerous kitchen equipment. As a gift for his 13th birthday Knives received the secret family cook book containing all of the family recipes: his mom's delicious Dragon Pie made of dragon fruits and delicious pastry, his dad's Oxtail Roast, Granny's Sheppard's Pie and more.
At the age of fifteen a tragedy hit the family business. Someone forgot to extinguish the flames underneath the stove. Smoke filled the air and fire burst out of one of the pots and climbed up one of the window curtains. Shortly after the whole restaurant was enveloped by flames. There were no casualties but the business had to close for renovation. Knives and his father worked together to: slowly clear the rubble and debris, purchase new construction materials, plan and sketch the new upgraded kitchen and restaurant interiors, cut wood, hammer nails and re-paint. In a relatively short time, a new upgraded version of the "Butcher's" stood tall and pretty with: new shelving units filled with jars and containers, a stove, grill and a beautiful dining room with a shiny new wooden chairs and tables covered in red-white plaid tablecloths. The restaurant was open for business once again, and customers would line up waiting.
Knives was no stranger to traveling, and on his 16th birthday went on a week long camping trip by himself on the outskirts of Desnind, "to connect with nature" he said. Traveling during daylight and camping at night, Knives explored the beautiful mountains and forests all over Desnind. One day, an unfortunate group of looters mistook the young man to be a easy target and attempted to surprise him with an ambush attack while he was resting by his tent on a wooden stool watching the sunset. Knives was aware of the invaders presence, as if they were an unwelcome, sneaky customer entering his restaurant. With a sharp motion, Knives drew his butcher knife (Which he decided to name "Angelina" after his new-found love for women) from his side, connected to his belt by a long , light metal chain. The four poor invaders did not know what was coming towards them. Raising his arm, with a single thrust whirling around him, the butcher knife carved through the jumping looters necks like butter, leaving a trail of warm blood on the surrounding otherwise green-yellow flora.
Knives hardly flinched, "Mere vermin, I cut through meat every day."
Another voice distracted Knives attention however, rattling noises and colliding branches. Cocked and ready, Knives slowly made his way towards the source of the noise. "PA-KAAA!" One of the invaders dead comrades was carrying a little beautiful white and brown hen in a cage. Knives face brightened at the sight of the startled creature, pet her, fed her and named her Bianca, The couple were inseparable.
As he grew older, Knives became more and more experienced and confident at his work. Inventing his own dishes and adding new recipes to his copy of the secret family cook book. Every day customers would rush in to taste Knives delicious Chickpea hummus with home made pitas. On Mondays the smell of freshly baked breads would lure by-passers in and on Friday mornings the clients would stand in line for the limited amount of his famous Shakshuka. Business was good for the family.
Finally, at the age of twenty, Knives finally decided it was time to spread his wings and fly. He left his parent's house and business to start his dream food wagon in Rharne with a little
Tunawa girl he had befriended.
