Late night
Student Accommodation Building
The room was dark. This wasn't a surprise. Like most rooms in the Accommodation building, the room didn't have any windows and the door was closed. Despite the darkness and the exhausted feeling that had settled into every crystal of his body, Sintih lay in bed staring at the ceiling. The only sound in the room was the soft, relaxed breathing coming from his left. Sin turned to look in the direction of the breathing but everything was as dark there as it was anywhere else in the room. He shivered slightly, as if only now the thought popped into his head that absolute darkness meant the furnace had stopped burning and smoldering all together.
He shivered again but this time it had nothing to do with the temperature of the room. She'd popped into his head, the one person he didn't want there at this moment. But she didn't care. He shook his head, trying to get the thoughts out of it, focus on something different. He turned on his side, pulling the sheets up to his chin, his back to the girl lying next to him in his bed. She hummed softly in her sleep but he didn't pick up on it. He was too busy trying to list all the Graft techniques they'd learned so far, trying to keep his mind off of the inevitable. An inevitability which he still believed he had control over. In total darkness, time moved at a different pace and after about half a break, or what Sin perceived as such, she wasn't gone yet. Just a name most of the time but on occasion a set of empty white eyes, so similar and yet so very different from the set belonging to the woman next to him. He turned over, trying to get his mind to turn over as well but he became painfully aware of the soft scent of the woman lying next to him accompanied by her relaxed breathing.
He threw his half of the sheets off of him, partially covering the woman, and sat up on the edge of the bed. His mind kept hopping from one thought to the next, constantly trying to find a safe space away from the eyes and the name that kept following them. He put one hand against the wall, a little above shoulder height, and focused on the solid stone in front of him. It faded away to make space for bright white light to stream into the room, bathing everything within in the light of the stars and the moon. Sin glanced over his shoulder to woman lying on his bed, who seemed undisturbed by the brightness. Her pale blue back was partially uncovered from when he'd gotten up and her dark hair was spread out over the pillow and half of his pillow. A memory of that hair hanging down over him, framing her face filled with pa-... Sin tore himself away from the figure and the thoughts and stared out into the night sky. Light purple motes of light started to flicker and hover around his eyes as he focused on the moon.
But as soon as he looked past it and his vision blurred, a single moon became two large white orbs, staring at him accusingly, zapping him back in the right here and right now, facing the unforgivable mistake he'd made this trial.
