Ymiden 20, Arc 720
The son of Ziell walked through the streets of Viden at a brisk pace, the hood of his fine dark cloak pulled deep into his face. Normally, he quite enjoyed the city and might have taken his time; the current weather was not conductive to doing such though. In a place where the temperatures usually varied between very, very cold and very cold and that was usually covered with ice and snow throughout the arc, it was raining, or at least not snowing properly. The things that fell from the sky that was uniformly grey were an unpleasant mixture of rain and snow and exceedingly wet, and the ground beneath his feet consisted of mud for the most part.
When he entered the Institute of Sciences, he immediately took his cloak that had become slightly wet off and draped it over his left arm, revealing the fine suit of dark grey that he wore underneath and let a gloved hand run through his hair before he made his way to his destination. He had recently decided to continue his education in chemistry on top of his studies of alchemy. He was already one of the most skilled chemists in this part of the world; he wished to acquire a degree that was recognized by academic institutions though – and stay up to date as far as recent developments were concerned.
Chemistry in particular and the sciences in general were constantly evolving.
A couple of trials earlier, he had received an announcement about a new series of lectures pertaining to the chemistry and study of materials and decided to attend some of them for the diploma that he had begun to pursue. As an alchemist and Transmuter, the design and discovery of new materials was of great interest to him. He had done some work in regard to modifying different materials himself, both magically and alchemically, and he was curious about how the mortal that would hold the lectures would deal with that matter.
When he entered the lecture hall, he noticed that there were already quite a few people there which bothered him very little, of course. He was not as much of a hermit as he had been, but partook in social activities every now and then nowadays. He found a seat at the relative edge of the third row, next to a human male of approximately thirty arcs of age with brown hair and brown eyes, draped his cloak over the back of his chair and sat down before he put a notebook that had been bound in deep brown leather on the desk in front of him.
The human looked at him for a moment, furrowing his brow slightly before he smiled, nodded his head in a greeting and remarked, “Professor Thetys.” Apparently, he had recognized him. He was, he noticed, as he let his gaze drift across the various people in the lecture hall, not the only member of staff that had taken an interest in the study of materials. He could see a few other employees of the Institute of Sciences, and somewhere in the first row, he spotted a few of his alchemy students, Astrid, a young human woman that wore her blonde hair in a thick braid, among them. She had occasionally assisted him when it came to his various alchemical experiments in the past.
