The Caesious Wing

Half a century ago, the Institutes of Arts was much larger than it is now, and the faculties of Languages and Humanities were combined within the Institute. As more and more students poured into Viden and took up places, many institutes could not continue to use the spaces they had originally occupied. The Institute of Arts - which was seeing more minstrels and players coming through their doors to gain professional qualifications - could no longer share with the theoretical faculties in the Arts. Half a century ago, with the move to new premises, the Institute, too, was split up. The new Institute of Arts now comprised only of the faculties of performance arts and fine art subjects. The two left behind in the Caesious Wing became the new Institutes of Languages and Humanities.

The Wing itself is not separate from the main university, and is directly attached to the Prime Atheneum, although not all floors offer entrance into Idalos’ largest collection of books. The Wing has three floors. The ground and first floors are designated for the use of the Institute of Humanities. Over the two floors, all study of history, geography, religion and philosophy will take place.

The second floor, the smallest of the three, houses the Institute of Languages. It is the smallest of the Institutes in the Viden Academy, as it is not a popular option for people to pay to study a language (those who prefer to learn chose to visit a district of Idalos where the language is spoken). Despite this unfortunate fact, the Institute boasts arguably the most dedicated and knowledgeable team of academics in the world, and Yvithia is very proud of the linguists who work tirelessly to understand these languages.

Paternal Grandfather to Delegate Caeli Fahe, Sheud is the Head of the Fahe family (arguably the most influential family in Viden). Given the best opportunities in life by his exceedingly wealthy parents, Sheud had the opportunity to study whatever he pleased at the Academy... merely for the sake of studying. With a number of degrees under his belt, he became a scholar at the Academy for a number of years before taking the opportunity to travel to other regions in Idalos and cement his theoretical knowledge with practical experience.

Upon news of his father's death reaching him, the man dutifully returned to the city to take up his rightful place at the head of his family. He was also reinstated at the Academy, and his experience allowed him to easily earn a further degree in Linguistics, and the Deanship of the Institute of Languages. Years later, the death of the previous Chancellor opened up the position, and he was named the new Chancellor of the Viden Academy.

Cecil Synk

The first member of a race other than human or eídisi to take a Deanship of an Institute, Cecil has made history in Viden multiple times and is well known and respected around the city. With a particular interest in the events of the Great Shattering, he is also the only non-eídisi that Yvithia has ever considered inviting into the FRA, to assist in him studies, as well as see if the ithecal had any insights. Cecil never did receive that opportunity, but he still garnered the presiding Immortal's attention, and became one of the most successful 'outsiders' to study in the Academy. It was Cecil who paved the way, opening up the doors of the Academy wider for other foreigners, as common opinions of other races are now beginning to change; they are no longer just thought of as neanderthals.

Yseulte is well known throughout a number of cities in Idalos, having travelled extensively with the goal of fully understanding the construction of the Common Tongue. From a relatively poor family, not much was expected of her, beyond receiving a Letter degree, but she managed to surprise many with her constant dedication to her studies, often working alongside her degrees. No one studied and worked as hard as Yseulte did, even when she birthed a daughter, she continued working and studying at the Academy. It was no surprise to the city when, at a young age, she was offered the Deanship, but it was a shock when she rejected it, in favour of beginning new studies in a broader topic. More years passed, and she excelled, taking on more and more classes to teach, until she finally had no more time to study. Again, with the promotion of Chancellor Sheud, she was offered the Deanship, and this time she accepted, grateful to slow down a little.
