[Telka] Saoire's Heroes: The Water Table

Telka
Saoire's Realm

And finally, they were all seated.

Stars lit above them, each one of them found their place setting - and they found that there was room for them, and any and all who came with them. There was a wide open-air space outside them, the ceiling opened up to the skies. The seats were comfortable and there was an incredible attention to detail. Beautiful place settings had small gifts sitting for each individual - and for each one, it was their favourite sweet snack which had been made to the highest standards of taste and presentation. Couples would find small crystal decorations which matched, or made a pair, and were significant to them. Individuals had small crystal objects too - all of which were significant and meaningful. Animal companions were not left out, there was a gift for each one. Even spirits such as Diri were given gifts here - and for them the gifts were the same. With each course, a small vial of ephemera which allowed them to taste the flavours of the feast.

They had a few moments to get settled and they would have drinks poured for them. It was an interesting fact of Saoire's realm ~ or perhaps of just this night ~ that alcohol had no negative effects here. There would be all the experience when drinking, but no feeling of inebriation or consequences the next morning. Each table was decorated with flowers and blooms which were living. No cut flowers here, each decoration was alive. Plants and small trees grew from the center of each table, healthy and living and giving a beautiful scent. Small crystals hung from branches and there were candles flickering at differing heights on each table.

The effect was exquisite.

Of course, the people seated here were also of differing heights - and yet that was another effect of Saoire's realm. Each person experienced the world, and everyone in it, as though they were their size. An ithecal and a cadouri could sit at the same table and be eye to eye and the world fitted them perfectly. It was a means of bringing people together, and it simply worked. When everyone was seated and had drinks, they were given a five-course menu. Each menu was different, it was a selection of the individual's favourite things. The only thing which was the same was that there was a "Chef's Choice" on each, whereby they would allow the chef to put together a bespoke menu for them.

Quickly enough, everyone was seated with drinks and having made whatever food order they wished. There was quiet music playing in the background - a cadouri string quartet - and a hum of conversation. Then, the area at the front of the room lit up more brightly and there stood Saoire.

Image

"I bid you all a warm welcome," she said. Her green eyes were solemn as she looked at them. Around her, fairies fluttered and many of them whispered into her ear or giggled with musical sounding voices. "We are here to celebrate, and to give thanks, to those who worked so hard to save Scalvoris and who, in the process, achieved so much more." She looked around with a smile and it seemed like she looked at each individual, making personal eye contact with them.
Image

"For those who do not know me, I am Saoire. It is my pleasure to greet you here, in my Domain." she gestured around to where they were, her shimmering white dress moving with her. "This is Telka and you are each a gift to the evening." She spoke softly, gently, but her voice was clearly heard by all.

"Although there are many here who know what happened, because they were there, there are equally those of you who do not," she said. "And so, I have provided an option for you to do so. At your place setting, there is a small vial"

Indeed there was - each one of them would find such. A small vial, intricate and beautiful. There was one for everyone, even if they'd been there. Because, after all, they hadn't all been in every place. Inside was a clear golden liquid which looked like honey. "If you drink the contents of that vial, it will show you what happened, in each place with each person." And indeed, it would - but it was up to them if they chose to drink it or not.

"With each course, we will celebrate achievements of specific individuals or groups. The heroes who saved us that trial and groups such as the Order of the Adunih who helped so much in the storm and freeze," With a warm smile, she opened her arms. "There are six of us here, tonight, in this realm and we will visit you, speak with you. Please, enjoy your first course."

And so, The Feast for Heroes began.

Water Table
Image
Seated at this table were Xander, Gennadiya, Praetorum and Rakvald. Also seated there were Trooper Eckman, a member of the Ishallr team, and Rand Bronson, Militant of the Scalvoris Council. Since their table had on it people who had been involved in the events specifically, it had a large blossom centerpiece growing from the middle of the table. They might notice that there was one empty chair, although it had a place set for it.

There were small crystals and mirrors allowing the lights to reflect, and the theme of the table was water. The flowers which cascaded down from the central tree, and which grew up and over it, were brilliant Mur'Thi flowers, mixed with various flora of the waters surrounding Scalvoris. The scent enveloping the table was very subtle, but reminded one of trials spent by the water. One would note a glass vase, seemingly encompassing the tree base in the middle of the table, was full of brightly colored sea glass in rich blue, sparking water. Crystals, scattered across the table, shimmered in blues and greens, set against a delicate silver tablecloth.

The first course was quickly served and they discovered that the empty chair was for a latecomer.

Xiur, for those who recognized him, sat down and smiled. "May I join you?" he said with a smile. "Hello. I am Xiur, and I would be honored to share this course of the meal with you. " The Immortal looked at each of them, smiling, and those present would feel...better. As if, perhaps, hope was creeping into their being. It was Xiur, after all.

"To be here tonight, and be amongst everyone, brings me joy and hope for the future. Which reminds me, I wanted to ask a question of all of you, if I may? If you will indulge me, I can perhaps answer a few questions from each of you as well as we eat?" A plate of delicate pasta was set before him, but his attention was on those at the table, looking at each in turn while he asked his question.

"Hope is something that fueled the actions of the people that we are here tonight to honor, he said. And it can do wonderous things. So my question to each of you is, what gives you the most hope? I know, it seems like such a simple question, but I've seen people gain hope, and lose hope. I truly wish to learn how people view hope.

Xiur began to eat, but his attention never wavered from those seated with him. He had stood in the Heart of Scalvoris, witness to what the force of hope could accomplish. It was worth knowing more.

As the course progressed, the waiting staff were there to fill glasses and deal with any issues. Everyone was attended to - diri and animal and familiar and friend.

OOC Info

  • If you drink from the vial, you will see the content of the Forging. That is the threads on Ishallr, Scaltoth & Sweetwine, and in the Glass Temple - then the Forging itself. You will see PC actions, but not know PC thoughts / motivations etc.
  • The way this is going to work is:
    • This is being split into 5 threads. Each thread has a designated mod.
    • The main thread will have the "exposition" each week. That will be the stuff that's happening over where Saoire is, and it will be the same for each table. You'll know which one of the three of us modding the event wrote it, as the mod will post it in the main thread.
    • Your individual thread will have a modpost which is split into two. The first half will be the main "exposition" and the second half will be table specific.
    • You should post ONLY in your table thread unless directed otherwise.

Objectives

  • Please describe what small crystal item you have.
  • Make a menu choice!
  • Describe what gifts your NPCs / animal companions get (if applicable.) These would be non-magical but exquisite and appropriate.
  • Answer the question you have been asked by Xiur
  • You may ask Xiur up to two things. This may be a request for information, for understanding, or a plea to do something. Up to you!
  • You can ask up to one question of everyone at the table (including Xiur) . PLEASE ONLY ASK THESE GROUP QUESTIONS this round - we'll direct you to answering them next round.

Rakvald sat himself down at the table, and was soon joined by others. One a posh-looking couple, and also an Ithecal and some tohers. It took Rakvald a second, but eventually he recognized Gennadiya, from when he'd gifted her a geminite surgical set. He grinned, and slapped the table lightly, "Ey... Genna, how's the surgical set I got ya going? Cut up anyone interesting lately?" He guffawed at his own question, and then turned his attention to the place that was made for him.

On it, a crystalline figurine of a pig was set on it. At first he puzzled at this, but then he remembered. He'd been a pig farmer earlier in this life. "Oh yeah, I was a pig rancher in Quacia... Huh. How thoughtful." Rakvald picked up the crystal pig, and examined it. He found it was a perfect likeness of his prized sow, Mappy that he'd had to put down when he fell on hard times. The memory almost made him tear up a bit. But was swiftly forgotten when he showed the Ithecal guy next to him his figurine. "Hey, this is my pig, Mappy. You figure Saoire knows all kinds of things about each of us? I hear she knows when you've been sleeping, and she knows when you're awake."

When the time came for them to make a menu choice, Rakvald knew exactly what he wanted. He called over the server, and said, "Quacian Pray Tea, and bacon sandwich with pork and mushrooms." He grinned at the server, waggling his eyebrows as they made their way around the table, taking the orders of the others.

The people around the other tables chattered, and very shortly the food was brought out, almost unnaturally fast. As if they'd expected what he wanted. But then he was in an Immortal Domain. He surmised that things could be conjured on demand.

The first thing he did, was take a few bites of the pork and mushroom sandwich. Then he drank the pray tea directly from the gourd. Hmm... that was odd. It tasted right... more than right. But something was different. Then it dawned on him, he asked the server, "Ey, why's the pray tea not getting me wasted. One sip should've given me a buzz almost immediately!"

The server gave him a strange look, and then explained, "The drinks here will taste just as wonderful and give off the good effects of the drinks, while not allowing you to get intoxicated..."

"WHAT?!!" Rakvald shouted, a little louder than he meant to. But then, it was shocking. "How... what... It thought I was getting invited to a party. Not some posh little noncy poncy tea gathering!" Rakvald moaned.

From then on, he sulked, picking away at his food and drink without much relish. It was around then he registered the question of Xiur, " I know, it seems like such a simple question, but I've seen people gain hope, and lose hope. I truly wish to learn how people view hope."

Rakvald muttered, "Looking forward to the next time work ends, and then I can get drunk. Same as most normal people." The mage said, and coughed into the back of his tentacled hand.

After a while, and the others had a chance to react to the question, Rakvald quirked a brow at each of them, sweeping over his table with his gaze, "What kind of party do they not let the guests get at least a little wasted? What kind of nursery school is this?"

After sulking a few moments longer, he leaned over to Xiur, and asked earnestly, "Say, Zer, you got any ability to make me foggy headed, maybe just a little? I mean... for serious, what kind of party doesn't let their guests get loose? Are we supposed to sit around here with candy sticks up our asses the entire time?"

Re: [Telka] Saoire's Heroes: The Water Table

Image

Xander took his seat at the table with Genna and the others that joined them there. He admired the small crystal figurine in front of him, it was a of Gennadiya's likeness and he saw in front of here there was one of his likeness, they fit together perfectly if combined to form an image of the two of them dancing, it was almost a distant memory now when they had danced together in Rharne at a celebration in the streets. But it was a memory Xander was most fond of, it was the first time he had ever been certain that he felt something more than friendship with Gennadiya, that should he manage to overcome his widowers guilt that maybe he could learn to love again.

Xander smiled at the memory as he returned the crystal to the table then taking a look at the sweet treat that was waiting for him. It was a piece of shortbread, lightly sprinkled with crystals of sugar. It was a simple piece really but it was something he had always enjoyed back in Krome. Sometimes something simple was all that was needed and when you were surrounded by decadence as he so often had been it was nice to take some time for something less so.

But here they were sat at a celebration like no other that Xander had ever attended in a place completely foreign and yet earily similar to the great halls of his homeland. Except from the fact this place opened up to the night sky, Xander marveled at the view of the sky from within what he would normally assume to be the kind of room that would have a roof. It seemed though that while he watched the stars above him he had missed the moment that Xiur had joined them.

Xander inclined his head respectfully as Xiur joined them and listened intently as he asked a question of them. He continued to listen as the stranger to him who seemed to know Genna responded first. Rakvald's answer was simple and in some ways so was Xander's. "I draw hope from my children, seeing the optimism they still hold makes me believe that there is still hope for this world and for a bright future for them." Xander's children were the reason he did most of the things he did anymore, becoming a father had taken away a lot of his personal desires and replaced them with dreams for his childrens futures. Being a father changed you.

Xander was somewhat amused by the stranger who sat with them and his questions although he felt they were somewhat rhetorical in nature and so he paused to think before offering any sort of response. In truth Xander had no love of alcohol, he had seen what it did to his father and he had no desire to become anything like Jersey Krome.

Not wishing to get drawn into a debate about whether they should be able to get drunk or not Xander skimmed over the menu in front of him and selected the Chef's Choice option as he was somewhat unsure of what his favourite foods were anymore, after all his own cooking left a lot to be desired.

After choosing his food Xander looked over at Xiur and a question of his own for the immortal came to mind. "Do you believe there is hope for the survival of the culture and honour of Rynmere in the long term? This question has plagued my mind for some time now that I look at my home and what has become of it, I wonder whether my children will ever know where they come from, whether they will ever experience the honour and nobility that was once represented by the Kingdom of Rynmere." Xander was curious what the immortal of hopes opinion was on this and whether he believed that conservation of Xander's people could be a success.

Xander paused for response and then remembered his manners. "Oh and I should also probably introduce myself, I am Xander Andaris to those who do not know me, I would be interested to learn who you all are and what you do if it please you all?" It occured to him that he only knew the identity of Gennadiya and Praetorum who he only really knew briefly from their interaction together in the forging.

Gennadiya Lyosha

Thread Title
Thread Date

Gennadiya stood by Xander as the two of them were lead towards their assigned table. Genna looked around at the others at the table and recognized both Rakvald and Praetorum. She flashed them both a sincere smile and tilted her head as they made their way towards the seats reserved for them. She had only meet Rakvald once but remembered him as friendly person and very enthusiastic. Praetorum she had meet several times during the Storm Edge Siege. “It is a pleasure to see you again Rakvald and you to Praetorum.”

Genna picked up the little vial and didn’t even hesitate. Xander had told her much of what had happened but she still took the lid off and drank from the vial to experience it herself and to help me understand. It came and Genna took a few deep breaths as she understood. It was a lot to suddenly take in.

Once the vision had passed Genna looked towards the little crystal statue that was situated in front of her plate. Her blue eyes looked intently at the figure, she then began recognize it. It was an image of a woman sitting in a chair. One little girl on the woman’s lap and the other sitting on the ground leaning on the woman’s lap. The woman was reading and Genna remembered. The face was that of her mother and the older girl was her sister. Genna felt tears sting her eyes as she realized it was an image of her as a child with her dead mother and sister. The young woman had grown much in the previous arcs. Previously she would have responded well but to trial and here she felt pleased. She leaned forward and showed Xander. “It’s my mother and my sister.”

Nayeli was floating next to her and there was some gentle humming as she looked over Genna’s shoulder before helping her self to some of the treats left for the spirits who had come. Genna also placed her own meal order. It was something her mother had made. Shredded chicken in a cream sauce filled ip in a roll with cream sauce and mushrooms spread across it with steamed vegetables on the side.

It was then that Xuir sat down. Genna recognized the immortal from the last time they had meet in Rharne during the Mummer’s Ball. He had helped her and Doran usher everyone out of the building while the silverware was attacking.

She paused and listened to Xuir’s question. She quietly thought about it for a long time before she spoke her eyes lost in thought. “Healing. I watch as people recover. I have seen people born. I have seen people die and seen all the stages in between. People grow and life continues. Accidents happen and pain occurred but I have watched both the body and the mind recover.” Genna said knowing it was a convoluted answer but it was her honest one.

She was quiet as other people asked questions and then she said. “I would love to hear what gives you hope.” She paused and then said “Also total off subject. Have you ever had any experience with or knowledge of who the Adunih was?”

Genna looked at those she hadn’t meet and offered her name after Xander did. “Gennadiya Lyosha. It is nice to meet you.”

Re: [Telka] Saoire's Heroes: The Water Table

Prae took his seat, marveling at the way the size of it seemed almost to shift, so that he could sit comfortably in the chair, yet still look the others in the eye as if they were his size. It made for a much more comfortable experience than having to look down all the time.

As he sat, Prae’s attention was drawn to the crystal glittering in the center of his place setting. It was small, but the craftsmanship was so fine that Prae had no trouble making out every little detail. It took his breath away, for more reasons than one.

The figurine was of three children collapsed against each other into a heap of limbs and grins—two ithecal, one human. His chest tightening, Prae ran a claw over it, gently brushing over one crystal shoulder. They looked so happy, so young and ignorant of all the pain the world could deliver. Prae could never be that child again—nor could his brothers ever laugh and play as they once did—but to have this single moment of joy, frozen in crystal… meant more to him than he had ever thought possible.

Prae’s attentions were drawn from his reminiscing when the guest by his side leaned in to show Prae his own figurine—a pig, apparently named Mappy. “It seems she does,” he said. “Although I don’t know about her watching us sleep.”

Gently tucking the crystal away, Prae turned his attention towards the three vials laid out in front of him, and the little pre meal snack they offered—stuffed dormouse with a honey glaze, a very Korlasir treat. Popping it into his mouth, Prae studied the vials curiously. Two were near identical, with the only difference between them being tiny labels—Sap, and Aurien.

Curious, Aurien hopped down from Prae’s shoulder onto the table, and even Sap emerged from Prae’s tail to take a look at their gift. As it turned out, the vial was full of something that the diris could drink, and taste the same little snack Prae had just had—Aurien declared the sweet taste to be delicious, whereas Sap said nothing, simply preening as they licked up the last drop.

The contents of the third vial, Saoire soon explained. Prae didn’t hesitate, uncorking the tiny bottle and draining the golden liquid within. Information rushed through his mind, as the details of what everyone had done at every point flooded through him.

One moment, however, stuck out to him. He’d heard Cassion say it himself—Jacien had brough Elisabeth back to life. But it was only now, without the chaos of the forging, that it truly sank in. Elisabeth had died. Because of him.

It was a familiar feeling now, that of failing family those who had trusted in him. But it made it no easier to see that it had happened again despite his best efforts.

Closing his eyes, Prae took in a deep breath, and counted to ten. Only long experience with numbing his own pain and sorrow and guilt kept him calm now. He would have to make this up to her, somehow. And failing that…

Prae shook his head. These were things to think on later. For now…

Praetorum nodded respectfully as Xiur sat, trying to calm his tumultuous heart. The immortal deserved his full attention, and Prae did his best to give it as their first courses were served. Prae had asked for the chef’s choice, and received an array of egg appetizers, ranging from a spoonful of steamed egg to a little tin of what seemed to be fish eggs to salted quail eggs.

Tucking into the unsurprisingly delicious food, Prae considered the question he’d been asked. What gave him hope…

“We do,” Prae said simply when the others had given their answers, gesturing all around the room. “Again and again, I have seen disaster of all sorts strike. And again and again, I see people stepping up to do their part in solving the problem at hand. Even if one of us fails, even if some of us stumble… I know there are others who are trying just as hard as I am, doing just as well or better, solving the problem in ways I could never think of. That is what gives me hope for the future—that there will always be heroes to rise to the challenge, no matter when or where they are needed.“

He rubbed at his muzzle as he was offered the chance to ask a question of his own. “Is there a point past which hope becomes folly? My hope is that magic, destructive as it may be, can be harnessed safely as a force for good—do you think such a thing is possible?”

Prae glanced around at the others at his table. “I would like to hear from all of you as well on this—what are your thoughts on magic and its place in the world?“

Xiur listened intently to all those at the table. It was obvious he wished to understand their views and ideas, and as such, his attention never faltered.

Both Eckman and Rand waited patiently for those at the table to speak. It was evident that there were a wide assortment of personalities and views represented, and that meant nothing but good things.

When the others had concluded, Trooper Eckman cleared his throat gently. After listening to the thoughts around the table regarding the Immortal’s question, he had a thought of his own, although his eyes were a bit wide-eyed – he wasn’t used to having conversations with Immortals. “I think for me, the answer changed during the mission we remember tonight.”

Setting down his fork briefly, he clarified his response. ”Being with the people that are honored here, changed me. There were some that knew each other previously, but most didn’t. Sometimes things didn’t go the way we would have liked them to. And yet watching them time and time again trust each other, working together to save Scalvoris, never giving up and being a part of that – that gives me hope, Sir.”

Rand listened, nodding his head a bit as the Trooper concluded. “Hope is a funny thing to me. I work with the military – logistics, facts, certainties as much as we can. I think if there’s a lesson to be learned here about hope, is that it is ever-present, and we can never dismiss it. There were a few times when things looked bad on this mission, but regardless of skill or knowledge, people stepped up and did beyond what was asked of them. It defies explanation or reason. What gives me hope…is hope. The mere existence of it.”

Xiur nodded, smiling gently at those present, taking in their words before addressing each specifically.

Rakvald’s answer to most might seem odd, but Xiur took it in stride. “Indeed, sometimes what we hope for is not something massive, but the simple things in life. I think that occasionally, people might lose sight of the smaller things that can sustain us trial to trial, and it’s good to remember those things. Thank you for reminding us of that.” Xiur nodded, offering him a brief smile before moving on.

The words that Xander spoke brought a smile to the Immortal’s face.“You are wise, Xander. Sometimes we can get so lost in living and events that happen, we forget to acknowledge that seeds of despair can creep in. Having the innocence of children to remind us of the wonders of hopeful optimism is one of the best ways, I think, to drive those seeds away. I wish for all of us that we can, occasionally, view the world as children do, through their eyes.”

Xiur looked to Gennadiya, smiling gently. “Healing is indeed hope. You’ve seen horrible, and wonderful things associated with healing, and yet, hope never fades. It’s always there, perhaps in a tiny dose, just waiting for air so it can bloom. I think in the moments that are the darkest, that’s when hope shines the brightest. Finding people when they don’t think there are any options left. Healers carry a very special type of hope, Gennadiya. Remind them of that.”

Turning lastly to Praetorum, Xiur could sense the sadness and turmoil within the Ithecal. Giving him an understanding smile, the Immortal replied to his thoughts. “Well said, Praetorum. I think also along with hope comes resiliency. One must never forget that to never lose hope is a defying act itself. Hanging on to the one last drop of hope, refusing to quit no matter what. I agree with you though that hope is in all of us, and that there will always be those that rise to the challenges before them. There will always be mistakes and things we wish could have been done better, but if people keep rising, refusing to quit…the hope remains.”

Taking a drink from his glass, Xiur leaned up and stretched a bit, smiling again at those at the table. “Now, you all had questions for me. Let’s see what we can do with those, shall we?”

A small laugh slipped free as Rakvald spoke his question. “Indeed, I do have that ability, Sir. However, out of respect for our esteemed hostess’ wishes, I cannot do as you ask. I am sorry.” For the other questions asked, Xiur graciously declined to answer, although it seemed as though the man was just venting anyways.

Xander’s query was not unexpected, although it took the Immortal a moment to respond. “I believe that there is always hope. When a culture collapses, that is usually indicative of a larger issue that wasn’t addressed. Perhaps in the future, wiser people will rise and rebuild the culture, keeping in mind the sins of the past, and the wonderful things that made Rynmere unique, and find a place of balance in the middle. And, after all, while there are people who uphold the honor and culture, who keep the place alive, there is hope for it. I do not doubt there is hope- but that hope is that someone will act. Someone who will proactively ensure it." He smiled at Xander. "Someone like you, maybe?"

Turning to the blond woman, Xiur’s expression became reflective as he contemplated his answer. “Well, I sailed with the Adunih and U'frek on occasion. Traveling with them. They always wore a mask, and never showed any skin.” Giving Gennadiya a smile and small laugh, he continued. “Does that help? I know these questions have been on your mind. You are on the right path – believe in that, and yourself.”

The Ithecal’s question gave him more pause than most. Magic could be a touchy subject – for mortal and Immortal alike. “Praetorum, hope is never folly. You should know this after witnessing what you and the others accomplished in the Heart of Scalvoris. You all accomplished something we never could have, by hoping and wanting another outcome. Hope is not simple – it’s powerful.” Xiur paused for a moment, appearing to consider his thoughts before continuing. “In the arena of magic, there are a lot of things even we Immortals don’t know about it. I think, perhaps, Cassion is wise to work on this subject with you, for your faith in the concept may bring about something new that we can all learn from.”

After answering a few more minor questions from others, the table had been opened to group questions.

Rakvald’s questions prompted a few raised eyebrows from Eckman and Rand, although Rand was the one that chose to speak. “We respect Saoire’s wishes. This is an evening to celebrate, yes, but it is also an occasion to honor and remember. She wishes for everyone to be clear-headed.”

Xander introduced himself, prompting Trooper Eckman and Bronson Rand to follow suit. Eckman rose and politely bowed to the group. “I’m Trooper Eckman of the Air Troop division – Elements. I helped transport the team that went to Ishallr and stepped in when Miss Angelus was unable to continue in that location.” There was no need to go into further detail there as most, if not all at the table, had partaken of the potion.

Rand nodded to the others but did not rise. “Rand Bronson. I am the Militant of the Scalvoris Council. A pleasure to meet you all.” Rand was a man of few words, especially when ‘few words’ could convey everything he intended them to.

Gennadiya introduced herself to the table but seemingly did not have any further questions for the others. Praetorum’s question was taken up by Eckman first. “Magic is something, if I understand correctly, that is not widely understood. I’ve seen it used, obviously. I’m not sure I have enough experience to really weigh in. If it's not understood well enough, perhaps we need to investigate it further?” The man struggled to answer the question because truthfully, he didn’t know a lot about it, and didn’t wish to promote uneducated guesses.

Rand himself considered the question, speaking briefly. “It’s a tool that is available to us. Like a sword or bow and arrow. I’ve seen it in the hands of good people, and bad, but I don’t think that’s a reason to stop using it. If that were the argument, where would that line of thinking stop? But further investigation, always good. Information is good.”

Xiur considered what had been said, nodding as he complied his own thoughts. “You’ve already heard my thoughts on the matter. I have hope for understanding of the subject. I think that all things have a place in the world. It’s just a matter of figuring out what the place is, and I’m happy you will be working on the issue.”

Saoire's Realm

The food was served, the music played quietly in the background and the tables were visited by the Immortals. There were the noises of general conversation, chatting and eating.

As the first course was finished, Saoire spoke again, stepping into the open area with the tall windows behind her. The night sky glimmered with the light of a thousand stars and she smiled in pleasure as she spoke. "I hope you all enjoyed your first course," as she spoke, fairies fluttered around her and their giggling was tinkling music. As the waiters moved around, clearing the tables of the first course, Saoire's voice rang out clearly in the room.

"As I said, we will be celebrating achievements of individuals and groups," she explained. "And the first of those is the most important, I feel." Her shimmering white dress caught the starlight and it glistened rainbow colours. "Every one of those involved stepped forward and gave all they could, but there are two who deserve the greatest of accolades and all the thanks we have to give." Her green eyes were serious as she looked at them.

"Two people stepped forward and offered themselves in an act of bravery," she said. "And their sacrifice meant that there was less death, that a child was given the childhood she deserves. But it is important that the first thing we do is to acknowledge the bravery of the two."

She gestured to the table where Nir'wei sat and she spoke directly to him. "You stood forward and sacrificed yourself in full knowledge of what you faced. Your bravery is beyond compare and every person on Scalvoris, and each Immortal owes you a debt that can never truly be repaid. Your gift was freely given, even though you knew its cost so well. Please, join me in giving thanks to Nir'wei. Those who were there may speak of it, if they wish" Immediately, Eckman stood. One might have thought that he was going to clap, but that was not what he did.

"Your bravery that day" said Eckman, his eyes on Nir'wei, "was a light in a time of darkness and I am inspired by you." He remained standing, as Stan, Jacien, Rose and Professor Fridson stood. They did not speak, for they were not there, but they stood in thanks to him. Saoire stood and watched as every person who wished it thanked the man who had given his life. Each of the Immortals did, standing up at the table they had sat at for their first course and giving their personal thanks dealt with at each individual table

When it was done, Saoire moved over to where Nir'wei was and she leaned forward to kiss him on the cheek. "Your bravery is without doubt, without question," she said to him, her voice serious as he green eyes regarded him. "The actions of all those present meant that we Immortals can change, can grow. It is my hope that in doing so, we are inspired by actions such as yours."

With a smile to him, Saoire put a small gift next to his plates. It was wrapped and tied. "No thing, no item or trinket can give thanks to you, but this token is just that," she said to him, "a token. Thank you, Nir'wei."

She kissed him again, and then walked back to the stage. Eyes turned to Nir'wei as those gathered more or less expected a speech, it seemed. If he gave a response, though, was up to him.

Once everyone had sat back down, the waiters had cleared the first course. There was a small glass left on each setting, a palate cleanser - a refreshing drink which tasted of fruit. Each taste was different, of course, and was the juice they liked the most. Saoire spoke again. "There is another," she said. "who willingly sacrificed himself that trial. His soul was turned into a wisp, and this trial, in Zuudaria, the realm of Famula - a new body was made for him. His soul was carried by two brave men who bore him to the realm of the unquiet dead, so that he could be restored."

Behind her, a portal opened and Saoire smiled. "Please," she said. "join me in welcoming Bao, Darius, Zoro and Joy." This time she did applaud, as did the Immortals and those seated at the tables. When they came through, they were shown to their table, to their seats. They, too, had the small gifts and snackssee the mod post above for clarity and once they were seated, Saoire spoke again. "There are no words to say how proud I am of you, Bao, nor how grateful to the three of you." The three of them would find small wrapped gifts waiting for them. "There are tokens of thanks at your table, but the world owes you each a debt."

As the new arrivals settled down, the second course was brought out for them all.

The Water Table

Xiur had risen when Saoire addressed Nir'wei, listening to her words of honor for the man. Eckman spoke too, and those that wished to honor him.

The Immortal waited for the appropriate moment and then raised his glass to the man. “Nir’wei, hope lives in all of us, and in the moment of decision you made, you reaffirmed the hope of all those around you. It is my wish that in this moment, that you feel the weight of what you gave your companions and understand their gratitude, and ours.”

While those at the table took their seats again, Xiur remained standing, smiling at them all. “It was my pleasure to spend time with you all, but I must move on now. Thank you for sharing your time and thoughts with me. I wish you all a pleasant evening.”

Saoire spoke again and welcomed Darius, Zoro, and Bao through a gateway. Clapping as he arrived at the table, was the Lord of Winter – Ziell.

Sitting down, the Immortal looked at all of them rather solemnly before introducing himself, although there were bound to be people at the table that recognized him. "Greetings to you," he said with a small smile. "My name is Ziell, and I will be sharing this course with you." He was reserved, but it was evident he was pleased to be with them, and his piercing eyes regarded each of them as he looked around the room.

The second course of the meal arrived, each person receiving what they had ordered. The Cadouri worked silently and efficiently as not to interrupt the conversations going on at the tables.

"I am curious,” he began thoughtfully. “What brings each of you peace? Peace is not a term that has one conclusive meaning – there are many different types of peace.” Sitting back in his chair as his second course arrived, a lovely plate of assorted cheeses, fruits, and nuts, he considered those present and explained the purpose of the question.

“During the course of this experience, the people being honored each had to draw upon a place of power to get them through moments where things were uncertain. People, as I understand it, do this all the time as well, searching for that moment of peace, whatever form that takes.”

Giving them a small smile, he inclined his head gently. “So, I would like to hear of what gives each of you those moments. Your own personal varieties of peace, as it were.”

"And, I’m sure, you have questions of me. I am happy to answer them. Or perhaps questions of the group? Please, " he said with a smile. "ask."

The waiting staff was exceptional, tending to all present, filling glasses, and making sure that everyone was comfortable and taken care of appropriately.

Re: [Telka] Saoire's Heroes: The Water Table

"Pfah! Bah..." Was all Rakvald had to say of Xiur's and Rand's claim that Saoire wanted them to be clear-headed. Yet he accepted the judgment, it just meant that he'd have to be sober just a little while longer. Maybe later he could hit up O'rourke's for some real drinks. But for now, he was attentive to the rest of the table as they asked their questions.

While they asked, he ate up his sandwich, noisily munching, and then licking each tentacled finger of his hand of the grease and juices. "MMm, not bad. Compliments to the chef!" The taste of good food cheered him somewhat, and even the pray tea (non-narcotic variety) tasted kinda alright, like a leafy mixture of mint and pepper. He was feeling better, at any rate, as he listened to the questions.

To Xander, he smiled broadly, his mood had shifted considerably in a few moments, "I know what you mean about kids. Got a little girl in Desnind that I haven't seen in cycles... I miss the smell of her hair. I should visit soon." The thought of Svarthilda, or Swartholda, or whatever her name was... Almost brought a tear to Rakvald's eyes. He sniffed a bit and stuffed that feeling down deep, however, as it came to Gennadiya's turn to make a question. Rakvald grinned again, "Yeah! Healing is awesome! But have you ever regrown a person's arm from nothing but a bloody wound!? Well neither have I. But I could! Graft is awesome!"

She asked something about the Adunih, and Rakvald shrugged when it was his turn to answer, "I joined the Order back when I was in Desnind a few arcs ago. Got drunk off my gourd and slept it off in their hall, but not before joining without knowing what I was doing. Shortest Hangover ever! Hahah!" Rakvald guffawed at the memory.

Finally, it was Praetorum's turn to ask a question. This time, it was a very serious and important question. And though Rakvald had a strong opinion about it and the way Praetorum framed the question, he wanted to assure Praetorum that magic was indeed awesome. "Hey, did I forget to tell you that your flesh as a Paltharnum is sublime? It really is. I've tried it myself. Your physical capabilities are incredible! That said, as to your question about magic..."

Rakvald spread his arms, with his tentacle'd left arm squirming in its sleeve. "Magic is awesome! Yeah it can be bad, but it's like... You just gotta have the will to stuff it down, and tell it what to do. My friend Llyr told me when he initiated me into becoming, that as long as you remember who you are, you're good. To paraphrase a bit." Rakvald, in fact, had almost forgotten that piece of advice from Llyr, and it brought him to some very strange and troubling thoughts. Had he forgotten who he was? He had changed so much, and gone through so many transformations. It was hard to tell who Rakvald was anymore. This put him in a somewhat somber mood, as he considered these things. He didn't get to his feet when Nir'wei and the others joined but rather held his chin in his tentacle'd hand, thinking deeply on these matters.

Eventually, after all the arrivals, through which Rakvald was unusually pensive and restrained, eventually Xiur left them, giving way to an Immortal introducing himself as Ziell, "“So, I would like to hear of what gives each of you those moments. Your own personal varieties of peace, as it were.” He asked them to tell him what gave them peace. This again prompted a moment of introspection in Rakvald.

He almost forgot about his next course!

But he answered as well as he could, "My daughter's laughter gives me peace. Seeing my friends and chumming it up with them. Even my quarrels and arguments with my wife Ildred make me feel like I'm most at home and knowing that this is the way things ought to be. Even that time she stabbed me in the balls with a pitchfork!! Ahah, ahh... Memories."

Then it came time for him to ask a question of the Immortal. Given that he was the Immortal of Prophecies, Rakvald had to wonder. His life was chaotic and hard to predict at times. Even he didn't know what he planned to do or where to be in the next cycle, or if he'd even survive to see another sunset. So one question burned in his mind, "Ziell, will my daughter ever see me again? And if so, will I have changed too much for her to recognize me?"

After he asked the Immortal this, he turned to the rest of his companions, and had a question, "If there was one thing you could change about yourself, what would it be?" He then dropped his chin into his tentacle'd hand, and propped up on his arm to wait and hear their answers. The steak and potatoes that were delivered to him were all but forgotten in the moment, as he was intensely intrigued by the occasion!

Re: [Telka] Saoire's Heroes: The Water Table

First Course

Xiur seemed to understand what Praetorum was feeling, and with his words came some semblance of comfort. Hanging on to that last drop of hope… “Thank you,” Prae said softly.

Praetorum smiled a little at Rakvald’s overly casual question. “Parties with a purpose, I suppose,” he said in response to Rakvald’s question. “I’m certain there will be time for you to get drunk in the future, when we aren’t celebrating Scalvoris’s safety.”

“I am Praetorum,” he said when Xander introduced himself. “I’m a mercenary working out of Rharne; it’s a pleasure to meet you all.”

As the others spoke, Prae sat back to consider the answers the others had given to his question. All seemed to point to the same thing—whatever new information came from Prae’s experiment with Cassion. He would simply have to wait and see, then, what results emerged from that.

Between Courses/The Arrival

Saoire gave tribute to Nir’wei, and Prae did not hesitate to stand. He had nothing to say to him that others could not say better, but he dipped his head in acknowledgement for a man willing to give his own life for that of a child.

He stayed standing when Bao, Darius and Zoro arrived as well, applauding with the rest. With them came a small girl, and Prae couldn’t help but smile. What a miracle they had achieve together, with the power of hope.

Second Course

Bidding Xiur farewell, Praetorum sipped at his palate cleanser, a refreshing drink that tasted of a cool, crisp apple eaten on a hot Saun day.

Prae dipped his head in greeting to Ziell, sitting back to give the waiters space to lay the second course—some sort of creamy soup—before him.

He considered the Immortal’s question as he started in on what turned out to be cream of chicken and mushroom soup. “What gives me peace…” Prae murmured quietly to himself. “What brings me peace is knowing that I and those I care about are safe—whether that means knowing there is no danger about, or knowing that I can protect them from anything that might attempt to harm them.”

Prae was silent for a long while, running a claw along the outside of his bowl. “I am, despite the circumstances I find myself in, a devotee of the Empress. I believe in Raskalarn’s cause, in her mission, in her goal—I do not think the world will ever know true peace until we are all of us united. And I do not believe that such a thing can happen without violence and bloodshed.”

“Is true peace for you a means, or an end? I wish to understand, Lord Ziell, because to my mind, the only way to enforce lasting peace is with a firm hand—it takes a dog with fangs and claws to protect sheep from wolves. To take the path of peacefulness no matter the circumstances seems to me to lead only to a world of strife. Do you see a path through which peaceful actions alone can lead to a peaceful world, when there are so many out there who would do harm?”

Re: [Telka] Saoire's Heroes: The Water Table

Image

The nobleman listened closely to everything that was being said at the table. and around the room listneing as Xiur answered questions of the others and his own question. When that answer came Xander smiled and nodded, perhaps the immortal was right there was hope for his culture for as long as someon was there to defend and ensure its survival. The fact that Xiur recognised maybe even he could be that person made a feeling of hope and pride well in his stomach.

Rakvald agreed with him about children and Xander smiled back at him in return. It gladdened him to know he was not the only one who found hope in his children. "I know what it is like to be far from your children, I hope that you get the chance to see them again soon." When his daughters had been takne away from him across the world he remembered how much he missed them and that he had hated the feeling it gave him.

Magic was an interesting topic for Xander as his experience with it was limited and from what he had seen it often caused more destruction than it did good. Then there had been its contribution to the fall of his homeland, the Kingdom of Rynmere had started to crumble under a conflict between the King and the Magic users of the country. While he chose to believe that was mostly the falt of the Crown he had no doubt that the mages had contributed to that too. He chose to stay silent on the topic of magic, not wishing to speak too openly on a topic he was not well educated on.

Xander watched as Nir'wei was congratulated for his contributions and sarafices and the same for Zoro and Boa Boa, his companions in the quest to sweetwine woods. He smiled and stood when others did to show his gratitude for their sacrafices and commitment to do good and save a girl who they did not know.

They were joined by another immortal now the immortal Ziell. Who asled them a question which he didn't have a good answer too. He wasn't often at true peace, but he supposed the most peaceful he ever was was when he was surrounded by those he cared for and loved. "I feel at peace when I am surrounded by those I love and those who love me, when doing something simple and calm with those who I care for." He reached over beside him and took Gennadiya's hand in his indicating that she was one such person.

Xander's second course arrived a large plate with half a roast chicken with a number of different roasted vegetables and mashed sweet potatoes smothered in rich gravy. Xander began to eat and paused when Rakvald asked if there was anything they would change about themselves. For the most part Xander was happy with himself, there wasn't much if anything he would change. But he decided to think on the matter and maybe provide an answer when something came to him.

Gennadiya Lyosha

Thread Title
Thread Date

The young woman listened as Xuir commented on her thoughts on hope and nodded her head in agreement of what he said. She saw hope in both large and small quantities as she helped others and went about healing. She also listened as he answered others thoughts about hope. She gently rested her hand upon Xander’s as he talked about his children giving him hope. He had come a long ways since when she had first meet him and she smiled.

Questions continued and Genna listened as each was answered including her own about the Adunih. She looked and Xander as he asked about having hope for his home country. It was something she sympathized with but at the same time couldn’t really understand. She lead people and were responsible for them but in the same breath she didn’t have generations that had cared for a place and it’s people.

It was then that the was a pause as the crowd was interrupted. Genna turned to look and listen. She applauded with the rest of the crowd in honor of Nir’wie for his bravery as well as the others who had sacrificed so much. Genna recognized Darius as he came in put did say anything to him at this time as she felt she was a guest so would just talon with him latter.

The Immortals moved tables and they were joined by Ziel. Genna smiled broadly as she had meet with the Immortal of Peace before and was one of his marked.
She took a sip of the drink that had been left for them and enjoyed the taste of pears as she slowly slipped the drink. As she sat there a second course was brought out. She looked at the delicate food that was steamed vegetables but around the edge was a sauce to dip the vegetables in, but the sauce was just a big pile but was spread in a pattern around the main dish of vegetables.

Genna enjoyed the dish but after a time Ziel asked them about peace. Genna nibbled on a asparagus as she thought about it and listened to the others speak. She smiled at Xander as he took her hand and spoke about being with those he loved. Eventually Genna spoke. “Peace I have found is something I have to bring in my life. I can’t expect others to bring peace into my life. I find peace when I am around those I love but also when I accept who I am with all my strengths and weakness and when I am active in the lives of those I love.” She squeezed Xander’s hand.

Then came the time for more questions and Genna though if she had any questions. She eventually spoke and said “Peace is a strange thing. People picture it as everything going fine and no one fighting but I have seen that attitude cause stagnation. The become complacent. People do need some challenges and even conflicts to grow.” She paused. “So ultimately my question is what advice can you give to help balance growth with peace.”
