Almund was....... unique. The topic of whether it is a good or bad place is heavily debatable. On the one hand, it could be argued that the city was a product of the creativity of its inhabitants. A canvas on which the many citizens of the city express themselves and show a part of their culture to others. On the other hand, any cartographer who was tasked with making a map of the city would probably get a heart attack and fall into a coma just at the idea.
This judgement might be a bit harsh, there certainly was some two-dimensional qualities inherent to the city. But to truly map the city some kind of three-dimensional map would be needed. Then to accurately portray things they would have to show where the roads lay, which was also harder since (especially in the residential area) roads were more of a suggestion than a fact. So any cartographer would have to compromise to just doing the main roads.
Perhaps, maybe, theoretically, hypothetically, a truly masterful cartographer could make a truly accurate map of the city. They could explore the city in person, walk through the alleys, climb all the ladders and call in enough favours to find the hidden passages restricted to families or groups. They could explore this immense spider's web and after a year they could finally say that they had made an accurate map of the city. Satisfied with their work they would try to use the map, only to find that it has already become out of date. New houses would be built where there was first an alley, old houses would be demolished or collapse due to a lack of structural integrity and the secret passages would have suddenly disappeared without a trace.
Which was all to say that Evronium Sulica Argendum (more commonly known as Evro) was finding it damn hard to actually find his way around the city.
He had only recently arrived in Scalvoris, coming with great dreams in his head. The dream of opportunity, of finding his future, and not getting killed by his Commanding Officer and having his head put on a pike. Of those three, the latter was the greatest motivator. He had left his home only a month ago, having booked passage on the first ship that he could find. Wishing to go anywhere that was not within the Empire's reach. Thus he had arrived in Scalvoris, the land of opportunity (but back in the Eternal Empire more commonly known as the land of vagabonds and rogues (which admittedly, he now fit into that category as well)) Then after arriving........... he had just walked. Walked around, followed the road, spend a few nights in cheap taverns and he did not know what to do.
One moment he had been living a regular military life, then he was fleeing and now he was here and was (relatively) safe from any kind of hunters. No immediate threats to his life and he had no clue what his next step would be. He did not know this place, he did know these people and he did not know himself. He was and still is, lost. Figuratively and literally. Evro would have been stuck in limbo for longer, but his funds were starting to slowly dry and he had gotten word of a place where one could potentially get jobs. Someplace called The Kennel. Somewhere where you could do some jobs as long as you were discreet and kept your mouth shut. Evro was good at one of those things so he figured that might just be enough.
So now Evro was walking over the combination of mud, wood and cobble that constituted a road in this city. Looking for the described location he had gained from a friendly pedestrian. The friendly pedestrian might admittedly have been (intentionally) intimidated into giving this information. But it was information one way or another.
After getting a lot of looks from strangers, navigating through the maze that was this city and apparently passing by the location in question twice, Evro finally saw what he was looking for. A building that was introduced by a distinctive sign. One which consisted of a two-headed dog and a simple text saying 'The Kennel'. The building itself was made out of one of the many shipwrecks that was used prominently in the city's architecture. Gathering his courage Evro walked towards the wooden door and knocked twice.
