[Bronze Boar] Fun and Misery, Both Love Company

Fun and Misery, Both Love Company

12th of Vhalar, 713

Location: The Bronze Boar

Tonight it seemed as though they were busier than usual thanks to the transition of the weather that slowly took place, with Zi'da looming in the distant horizon there existed a set number of days until the cold would be too rigid to endure; and therefore every Rharnian would remain crowded within doors in an effort to keep the cold at bay. Therefore outdoor strolls and nightly revelries were bound to increase this season, something that Patrick had quickly grown accustomed to as a bartender these past couple of years. A few buskers had even gathered and decided to play their instruments to bring the fun into the Boar tonight, their noisy but bouncy tune a great mood lifter to the rebellious crowd that managed to gather inside the establishment tonight. Upstairs had to be just as busy as stomps were heard on the ceiling and cheers were cawed for their current fighter; oh what another glorious night of celebration for the city of Rharne!

Two shots of whiskey, a mug of ale, two mugs of cider, and then two more shots of brandy! Holy shit did the orders line up quickly, and Patrick combated the sense of being overwhelmed with determined focus and determination. Four shot glasses arranged on the counter, switch to the cabinet to get three mugs, and then return to the glasses with both a bottle of whiskey and a bottle of brandy. Both poured with each hand into their designated glasses and placed aside, as they were moved to the two guys that ordered them in the beginning, and then onto the three mugs for ale and cider. When those were finally finished he found himself greeted with yet another who took a spot at the bar, a vivid smirk on his face as he leaned onto the surface after he'd found his seat. "Busy night little brother?!"

"Like you wouldn't believe!" He answered with a laugh as he reached for the cabinet to get another shot glass, the rum bottle his next selection as he poured one for Dominek. "Here." He presented to the knight with a few glances over to other spots, so far the tables were caught up and the lady in back was working on dishes. So for once he was actually caught up with everything, and he could at last admire the revelries that unfolded before him. "How was the patrol?"

"Oh you know, same ol' same ol'!" Dominek replied as he gulped the rum down in one go. "Gonna clear out though, just wanted t' check in!" He finished with a gold piece placed on the counter top.

"Sure," He mused with a glance over to a gingerly man at the end of the bar, one who hadn't really ordered a drink just yet, "Ya know you should shout at me or somethin'. Throw a mug at me next time!" He encouraged as he walked down to the individual, curious to see if he needed anything. "What can I get ya?"

[Bronze Boar] Fun and Misery, Both Love Company

Image
There were two type of people in this world. People who loved birthdays, celebrations, holidays, and other specific events of joy… and people who didn’t. Avrae Kyric, to nobody’s surprise, was the type who didn’t. He had always been the type to watch other people enjoy their birthdays but not particularly enjoy his own. Presents, alcohol, dancing, it all seemed so… frivolous. Of course, he had never particularly had anyone to share his own birthday with, or anything special to do. Most years it had passed as a normal day, and therefore he had come to ignore it for the most part. The Aukari male had little traditions that he did himself. He’d stay up to midnight the night before to see the beginning of his birthday, for one. And then the night of his birthday he would often light a candle at eleven at night and let it burn for the last hour of his birthday. He isn’t sure why he started that, but he’d always enjoyed candles, and blowing it out at midnight of the 13th always seemed… proper, he supposed. Like saying goodbye to the past year and hello to the new year. And in recent years, he had taken to having one good drink the night of his birthday, too. Aukari weren’t known for their love of alcohol- it wasn’t a very good mix. But Avrae was a sad, calm drunk, not his usual emotional self. So he allowed himself his birthday, the one day of the year, to drink freely.

As he walked into The Bronze Boar, he was already regretting his choice in location. Rharne was too busy for his tastes- too loud. Avrae had come into the city of drunks- as he liked to call it- just last week, for a bounty he’d been chasing. He’d probably be leaving with Ailluin soon, but had the misfortune of his birthday passing while in this rambunctious city. He managed a nod to Daveth, the Ithecal who owned the bar, as he slipped into a seat on the far end of the bar. Reaching into his pocket, he brought out the small red candle and a small tinderbox. It took him but a second to strike up a spark and light the candle with a small stick from the box. Setting the candle on the bar and slipping the tinderbox back into his pocket, Avrae let out a soft sigh as he peered down at the flickering flame.

Twenty three arcs on this world, and Avrae still got the feeling of dread on his birthday that he simply couldn’t shake. A deep, undeniable sadness of sorts. Watching the flickering flame of the candle, he waved his hand over it slowly, relishing in the feeling of the heat on his already hot skin. It was then, caught in his revelry, that he heard the accented tone of the bartender calling out to him. Avrae glanced up from his candle, clearing his throat as the handsome male approached. Sitting up a little straighter, Avrae took a breath as he considered the second part of his tradition- his birthday drink. He usually only had one, so his choice was weighed heavily. “Uh… yeah. I’ll take a shot of Vodka. Actually… make it two.” He finally decided, reaching into his pocket for his coin purse and fetching the four gold nells for the shots- plus an extra gold nell for tip. Sliding it across the bar towards the man, he held back yet another heavy sigh.

Tapping his fingers absently on the bar, Avrae let himself take in the features of the bartender, eyeing him thoughtfully. More out of idle curiosity than actual amusement, he spoke up with a, “Do you usually encourage your patrons to throw mugs at you? I can’t say I wouldn’t be tempted to take a shot after I’ve had a couple of drinks. And I’m a good throw, so… just fair warning that you should be prepared to duck.” His lips twitched into a half smile, absently turning the candle in front of him as he waited on his drinks.

[Bronze Boar] Fun and Misery, Both Love Company

ImagePatrick waited patiently with the customer as he thought of what he wanted to drink, and since he waited of course there existed a chance to take in physical features in that time. Broad and stocky but with some strong features that actually had a bit of an appeal really, the amount of physique he possessed actually struck Patrick in a way he didn't expect. Stylized hair with in the brighter shades of copper and eyes with the hues of vivid amber, this wasn't somebody who turned out to be one of his average regulars.

"Vodka it is." He agreed as he turned around once more to prep the shots, not one but two so that meant he was drinking for something. As quiet he seemed to be and hardly enthusiastic as everybody else was, it didn't seem as though the customer wasn't here to celebrate anything in general. The mood he seemed to carry suggested differently, but that's actually Patrick reading too much into things now.

The bottle of vodka was grabbed momentarily after the two shot glasses were laid out, both poured shortly afterwards as he heard the gingerly fellow speak up. "Oh trust me, you'd be surprised how many actually take up the offer!" He joked as he twisted around once more with a glass in each hand. "Two shots of vodka." He pointed it out as was the obvious thing to do, repeats of the order tended to be the trend when you were a bartender.

With the exchange in payment received for the vodka, Patrick then moved along as he tended to other patrons. With a few empty mugs collected, he turned to pour yet some more refills of drinks needed to be served. "Best keep a watchful eye on that one, he's one o' them Hot Heads probably servin' Faldrun." One of the men muttered to his associates while they looked down the bar, their expressions filled with utter disgust at the ginger's presence here.

Patrick kept his head low with no real support in the opinion, in truth part of him didn't know whether to agree or deny it. So far the man hadn't done anything provocative, other than light his own damn candle he brought along. What was with that anyway? He definitely didn't seem like he intended to burn down the place, maybe the candle or the flame itself held some personal meaning to the Aukari.

Maybe that's why Dominek really was here earlier, not just checking in with Patrick but... checking in with this Aukari. It made better sense to him anyways, that his brother who was a part of the knights would investigate this sort of occurance. An Aukari sighted here would more or less draw ire upon themselves, and Patrick more than ever felt the tension grow with each passing trill. "Okay boys," He finally cut into the groups glare fest, "here's another round fer y'all. Do me a favor though, try t' keep your selves in good spirits. Aight?" He reasoned as he moved along to return to his duties, some other customers needed servings at their table.

He gave a silent thanks to Ilaren for that, granted he needed a moment away from the bar. Whatever the problem was the Aukari had yet to do anything harmful to anyone, that alone was more than enough for Patrick to consider fair. Hopefully the rest of his fellow kinsmen would likely feel the same; while the night carried out in its usual busy and rebellious manner.

Such a Beautiful Thread . . .
  • Oh no! The thread was cut too short. Of course, I'm disappointed, but I hope you return Avrae Kyric. There wasn't a lot offered here, but I tried to find what I could. On the plus side, skill points are always good, right?

Patrick

I wish this could have continued on. Because of the story's length and the fact I do believe collaborative threads are supposed to aim for 3 posts each and this was unfortunately cut short, it did affect your points, but I tried not to punish you too much. I am happy you attempted to wrap up the thread, and for that, you get a happy review.
