PERSONAS & APPEARANCES
overview
The mind is a complex...interesting thing. It weaves and twists in a way that we sometimes cannot explain. Sometimes to protect us, in its own way, it fractures. With the case of Thysbae, that's precisely what has happened. While being a singular individual, the mortalborn "houses" three. Triune, triplicate - for now they're what makes Thysbae, well, Thysbae. His odd mental constitution is a result of unfortunate circumstances that he tried to make the best of. But, clearly that didn't work out too well for him.

Thysbae bears resemblance to his Immortal father in the shadows that travel his face. A cursory examination would raise no suspicions and one would think it was the natural light. However, if one were to pay close enough attention, it can be noted that these shadows have no particular source or pattern that can be seen as natural. There is also the faint, if not ever present, too-sweet scent that he carries with him. Like the perfumed stench of a corpse.

As unsettling as these other traits may be, Thysbae is very easily summed up in a single word: soft. Soft in most every sense. Round works, too. Perhaps it has something to do with the perpetual (although endearing) baby fat that remains - if it can still be called that - that keeps him just out of range of being referred to as "slender". Most would mistake him for younger than his arcs at first meeting, and continue to do so regardless of how many times he reminds them. It doesn't help that he's not very tall at five foot five. With dark hair and large eyes made larger by long lashes, he has a sort of feel to him that tends to calm people or, in rare cases, set them on edge. Particularly if he stares; there's something about irises dark enough to be black that tends to unsettle people.

Soft-voiced, with a slight tendency to struggle for words, he comes off as further unassuming, childishly stringing words together into sentences. At least, when he's only one facet of the tripled mind he's become. But it's the dominant personality, and true center, that wins out. It was almost like he was meant to be as unassuming as possible, if not endearing and evoking a need to protect or...ruin.
bae
  • The child that never really grew up
    • Still holds all that childlike wonder; “what’s this?” “a vase”; a font of questions that cannot be stopped!! A force of adorable! Seems incredibly carefree for the most part and always appears to try to befriend someone
    • But sorta like a child, he is susceptible to getting stressed out fairly easily; replaced with Thys usually then
  • He’s very easily stressed out or made really uncomfy to the point of mentally dipping out - but also not??? Catch him in strange new situations and the one thing that sets him off is like a single word among everything else.
  • He’s the representation of a need to belong or blend in
    • He’ll go along with anything if it means he belongs, making him easy pickings for basically anything
  • A puppy in the form of a person; he’s too trusting and easily impressed upon and once you have left a mark on him, he’s more often than not likely to blindly follow you to the ends of the earth without question.
key features... appears smaller; smiley; tends to stand very close, speaks softly
thys
  • What a bougie individual
    • More so the reflection of having wanted to be the spoiled child that he would have been if he was the child his mother had wanted; strives for elevated status because uh duh he was supposed to be the financial messiah but clearly that fell through
  • The “protective” personality. Takes (took) a lot of the abuse and tends to deal with everything that stresses Bae out; the stronger willed one, but not necessarily strong
    • Also has an attraction/gravitation towards individuals that exhibit strength, be it physical, emotional, or mental; bonus points if they’re strong in multiple senses
    • The thing is though that he really just wants to protect himself. He’s Bae and Bae is him so if something happens to Bae, it happens to him and that’s a no-no. So really he’s being as self-serving as can be.
  • He’s predictably unpredictable in that you will have some inclination of what his end goal is - but not how he plans to get there in a situation. Obviously, he’s always going to be vying for some place on top or with the upper hand in some way, but his means of getting there could be anything.
    • You can tell his preferences though - nonviolent, usually. If he does need to get physical, it’s usually a last resort and potential for someone else ot take control.

key features... stands a little taller, smirking more often than a simple smile; difference in cadence of words, speaks in a lower octave.
adora
  • Possibly a little crazy. Possibly
  • Her complete emergence is a little...delayed but she’s always been there, buried real deep
    • Because let’s face it: she’s the most radical of personalities and her very existence is detrimental to both Thys and Bae and to be onest why would Thys take the chance of her having full control from the start?
      • It feels like she has a death wish to be honest
  • When I say cute, you say “but psycho”
    • Classic Kubrick Stare.exe
    • This is the most devout personality...the grand pumbah of gutting folks for an immortal...the zealot to end all zealots. What is the limit it does not exist she has like zero concept of keeping things holy that are not explicitly linked to worship of a figurehead
    • “Oh my god, I love you; you’d make a perfect offering to [insert immortal] :)
  • She does share traits with the other personalities because at the end of the day...they’re each other. With Thys, it’s sensuality and persuasiveness. With Bae, it’s that burning desire to belong, but also blind faith in whomever she’s set her sights on as her One Truth
    • And I mean she jumps the gun with some of the stuff that she does to show her devotion (i.e. sacrificing people, oops?) but it’s this underlying desperation that spurs her on - the need to belong

key features... shares a lot of similiarities with Thys; manic stare; sing-songy

BIOGRAPHY
mother
given name... Annchi Beng
race... Human
date of birth... Zi’da 13, 683
skills... Deception - 25; Logistics - 30; Etiquette - 15; Rhetoric - 20; Intimidation - 10

appearance... The arcs have not been kind to Annchi, aging her beyond her arcs and thinning out her hair. Once full and black, it is now grey and dwindling. Her heart-faced has sunken in, sallow but lively only in the manic shift of her eyes. She could have been described as average height, but now seems considerably smaller and thinner as each trial pasts. While she appears to be knocking on death’s door, she has many more arcs to stay around for.
personality... Prior to what her family would describe as the disgrace, Annchi had been peculiar. As devout as person could be to their immortals, her beliefs reflected a purity that fit her appearance. She was vocal in her support of Chamadarst and Moseke; occasionally, one might see her worshiping Famula, but this particular immortal did not have as much weight. She lived her life concerned with the mercantile nature of her family and seeing to it that there was some respect for the life around them. And then she changed, deformed. Most days she is incoherent, others she appears comatose or in a trance-like state. If she is’t spouting off the “holy word” and the “coming end,” she’s murmuring a string of nonsense intended to be hymns.
past
The revelations of prophets come in dreams, and Annchi thought herself no different.

As she would describe it to her family, she’d been visited in a dream by an Immortal. That he had left her a blessing that would bring further greatness to the merchant family. And perhaps they might have written it off as a fever dream, if it was only the one time. But Aelig had come for his fun, to ruin the devout, and he would not leave until the deed was done.

His appearances were sporadic, sometimes once a season, sometimes a full tentrial of his presence would be gifted to her in these “dreams.” Annchi would persist each time, the denial of her family growing more fervent. “You’ll see,” she’d said, “And you’ll know.” But they did know, and they were beginning to see the signs of these visitations, these visions. Her pretty figure diminished as her zealous fire grew stronger. A wild light to her eyes as she ranted with a reverence they had not seen in her before. The playful nature of her faith had changed with each dream she was given, and there was no end that could be seen.

Not until his very last visit. Aelig arrived after near a whole season of absence, leaving Annchi to both mourn him and await his return like a wife awaiting her husband’s return from war. It was with great elation in this final dream that she welcomed him, though the light dimmed slightly within her at his solemn appearance. Clothed in the visage of Chamadarst, as he had first come, Aelig told her that the time had come for the gift to be given. And that it would be the last dream he would visit her in, but it would be worth it. Understandably, Annchi was torn. To have her immortal visitor leave her after his return had been enough of an upset. To have clung to each dream as a prophecy of something to come and for it to be coming to fruition was great; she would be right. But at the cost of possibly never seeing him again.

Annchi accepted, and was soon enveloped in his arms. When she awoke from this last dream, it became her mission to spread forth the holy word given to her: that she was to bring forth a child of prosperity and wealth. A girl untouched, but imbued as the carrier of greatness.

If only that had been true.
--
What Annchi had instead was the child of Aelig, Thysbae. The abomination she had carried was not the salvation needed for the less fortunate houses of Ne'Haer, but her own downfall. Before the complete discovery of the swindling, Annchi's family felt it best to isolate her. She'd already become increasingly mad, falling into states where she was not much like herself. They had been concerned through the entirety of her pregnancy, made worse when Thysbae was born. It was, to start, the smell. Pungent within the first few breaks, but disappointing enough to be almost unnoticeable. Almost. A thick shroud of roses and rotting meat had filled the birthing room and the unsuspecting mother had been unaware for the whole of it. It'd sent midwives (two, to be exact) running outside to breathe in fresh air or empty out their stomachs, troubled with a sense of foreboding.

Try as they might, Annchi would not part with her child. At least, not at first. But as the foretold luck took longer to arrive, the money remaining the same or fluctuating in ways that didn't align with what she'd been promised, she grew weary. Suspicious. The people that had told her time and time again that she'd been deceived were right, much to her dismay. And soon she could no longer stand to be in the same room as the child. By all accounts and rumors, this was perhaps the point where Annchi was lost.

Disappointment turned into hatred, spurred further into the frantic ravings of how this was the opposite of their deliverer. That Thysbae would be a harbinger of some great destruction and that he would need to be separated from all others. While this wasn't believed in any sort of capacity, her family and the general community humored her. Because what would be the point of upsetting a woman who'd already been damaged to this point? Her fall had been far and thus the two were secluded in a constant isolation. As Thysbae grew older, the speculation of his parentage was forgotten. The possibility of his other parent being an Immortal was viewed as dubious at best, though there were few that might have believed it.

Regardless of what was thought, as Thysbae grew older, he was never told of who his father was. Because while Annchi herself was moved to hysterics at the mere thought, she truly did not know. This, however, never stopped her from telling the child exactly what she thought of him in as many ways possible. His life was restricted and scheduled, often with him at one end of a room with his mother glaring on from the other end. His was not a childhood of great joy.
--
It was supposed to free them. Him.

A part of him had come to understand that the woman he called "Mommy" did not love him. That she, in all that she did, held nothing but the greatest ire towards him. Thys was born not of sadness, but of a hatred to match Annchi's. The quiet questioning of why she stayed so far away, and why they were alone, was forgotten in place of wondering what would be the best way out. He was, after all, twelve arcs old and capable of thinking for himself. His inability to read did not slow him; he'd work his way around it like he did everything else. If he could snatch up a cookie for the Hidden Spot, how much harder could it be to finally walk out of that house?

But these were big aspirations, with a bigger obstacle. The woman was always watching. Gaze forever trained on him. And if it wasn't, her attention would be back on him before two bits had passed. So he took his time to learn how the locks worked. He took his time to know when she went up those creaking stairs, waiting for however long it took her to come back down. And then one day he followed her up. Maybe it was surprised that made her allow him to stay, but it would be her mistake. Not fatal, but bad enough.

Having a window so close by was something new. He wasn't allowed near those. And this one was clean, unlike the scum-filmed windows that kept him from seeing the world down at street view. Lo and behold, there was almost nothing. A road and the start of town; they were on the outskirts of the family estate. Thys had heard her talk about it often, when she got into those moods to tell him everything he'd never have. And then she smiled as his expression dropped.

She didn't stop smiling until after he'd pushed her out the window.

--
While the fall didn't kill her, it left Annchi bedridden and Thysbae now her primary caregiver. They hated it. Or, well, Thys hated it. Bae was pleased. It meant he was needed, that she had no choice but to call on him. This dependency didn't stop her abuse of him though. Where she could not find words, she resorted to a more physical rebuttal. They continued this way for a full arc before there was another interruption. The family had decided that while the two could remain on the property, they would no longer be cared for where money was concerned. With Annchi's condition, they found her as no more than a burden on them. She, and by extension Thysbae, was one less expense they would concern themselves with.

It wasn't too devastating. Thys would call it liberating. Bae would call it the beginning of opportunity, in his ever positive way. And in a way, it was. It allowed to do something that he'd not been able to: go outside. With no one delivering food to them, he would also need to get that as well. It was at this point that he began to seek out some form of employment, but at his age - he was already a bit behind others. What work he could find was meager and often didn't bring much. His inability to read and write was an immediate hindrance, but he soon found employment delivering packages and things were...okay for the most part. He was fortunate in that someone had chosen to teach him to read and write (if only for ease of him getting his tasks done).

It was a strange thing, discovering something he was capable of. His mother spent countless hours drilling into him that whatever abilities he'd been gifted, they were something horrible. And, at first, he might have been inclined to agree. Watching the first altercation - he'd confess and say he'd never intended to it if they believed him - based around misspoken words was something. Thys would call it powerful. Bae would call it frightening.

Adora chooses to believe it was the beginning.

It was a simple scuffle, but enough to knock anyone out of their stupor to look on at the confusion. What was meant to be the denial of a price turned into agreement and the very frustrated not-meant-to-be customer refused physically, but continued to agree verbally. It was comical at first, but soon took a turn when fists were raised. It was only his first time trying to sell someone something. He never did it again.

Thysbae's gotten better with some of his abilities, but tends to stray away from the use of them often. The results aren't always what they seem. And, as his luck would have it, they've landed him in far more trouble than he would like. Using just one of those abilities is, after all, the whole reason he now finds himself on his way to Yaralon, mistaken for a mage.

Starter Quest
One particularly uneventful day, Thysbae would find a pair of beautiful, brown eyes watching her. The woman leaned against a house near to where Thysbae lived, and just watched her with the intense gaze of a predator. If approached, the woman wouldn't flinch or try to run. If asked why she was watching Thysbae the only response would be "I know what you did," after which time, she disappeared. But after that, another woman would appear, acting in the same way, saying the same thing. Over and over this cycle would repeat itself. Something had to change.

Re: Thysbae

[anchor=ii][/anchor]
ABILITIES
antitheses, chameleons, cults

antitheses
inverse ... Thysbae, three times per trial, can reverse the speech of others without their knowledge for however long he interacts with them on one topic / issue of Thysbae's choice. The opposite of the intended remark will be said and the afflicted will assume they have said what they meant to; subsequently, as long as he is within in a ten-foot radius of them, the ability remains in effect. It requires an intent to turn their words around and direct interaction with them. This can only be used on one person at a time and impedes only their speech. The drawback to this is that Thysbae himself will experience aphasia for the following three breaks of using the ability.

chameleons
assimiliate ... Activated thrice per trial, this ability allows Thysbae to blend into any group of six or more that share a common ground, whether it be political ideal, heritage or religious belief. Temporarily imbuing the Mortalborn with the ability to speak the shared language, or have knowledge of the shared religious or political views, so as to allow the Mortalborn to blend in. While it does not alter appearances, it does allow the MB to blend into the culture around him or herself. However, Thysbae is not privy to how slang translates across generational and social groups. After a break, the knowledge and ability to speak the shared language recede, leaving the Mortalborn with temporary confusion and amnesia of his personality. This lasts a break as well, and is accompanied by self-destructive tendencies and fatigue. Additionally, this ability cannot be used in successive breaks, meaning that at least one break, and the ability's negative effects, must occur in between uses. The negative effects of this further contribute to his crumbling psyche and formation of further personalities.

cults
lead me unto temptation ... Thysbae is able to influence those around them of aligning ideals through speech with the purpose to persuade on a specific ideal/belief. If he believes that all mages are menaces, those around them who believe the same are drawn to them, and they show the Mortalborn deference as if they were experts on the subject. Those with Expert Meditation can resist the draw of the ability, but their ideals are bolstered still when in the area of effect. The Mortalborn, however, benefits the most from this. When at least three people are affected by this ability, the Mortalborn's powers of persuasion and rhetoric are increased in effectiveness, essentially allowing the Mortalborn to operate at a skill tier higher than they are in both skills. The drawback of this is that, should someone be present to resist the ability, the Mortalborn will be inclined to follow one of their beliefs and others are no longer drawn to them.

NPCs
huyr
Huyr
Image
Name: Huyr Kitt
Race: Human
Date of Birth: 21 Cylus 689
Skills: 30 Blades (Broadsword) 30 Butchering 15 Negotiation 20 Persausion 5 Gambling
Appearance: Short black hair (about shoulder length, side parted), brown eyes that sometimes look red - giving the impression that she may be a mage or marked, scar over eye and tattoo on forehead. About middling height with broad shoulders, bit bulkier frame.
Personality: Huyr is a social creature in that she's a braggart. Whatever the deed, if she can boast it she will. Not entirely the brightest, she was the one that spotted Thysbae and assumed his being a mage. She also boasts this, despite him to being a mage and being of very little use. Other than her arrogance and boastfulness, she has a nasty gambling habit that she indulges in whenever leaving the city. But she's also got piss poor luck where money is concerned and is often watched to make sure she doesn't gamble away her funds while abroad.
Relationship to PC: Captor, and babysitter
