Vhalar 1st 717, The Final Break

Location: Nidhoffnir

For once the entire tavern, if not the city, seemed to come to a quiet as the night finally settled in. It had never occurred to her before, but Kayleigh quite liked the fact the last day of Saun literally was the last day. As the dying light of both suns seemed to temporarily wane under the horizon it proved that once again season's were changing, and that time had dictated her course once more as it had been prior her arrival in Uthaldria. Kayleigh hadn't the ability to find sleep on this first night however, this soon to be break for Vhalar, as the time had come for her to prepare for yet another journey. She had to leave Uthaldria behind her now even after her adventures here, though brief, had only just helped her started to grow stronger. Though she had not heard word from the few she met here, she felt they would eventually come to meet again at some point. Their hearts were connected now, that's all that mattered as she continued this journey alone. Yet where was she to go? Uthaldria never gave her the answer she'd hoped for. Where would she find her younger brother??

She'd spent a while thinking about this as Saun's end followed to a close, and while she would've continued onward north her mind told her otherwise. To her it didn't seem likely that Higan would venture that far up alone, and if so then she would've found him already as Uthaldria and Gauthrel were both very big places. And very dangerous in fact. She couldn't help but sigh heavily as she continued to rummage through her belongings, her clothes were folded across her bed, and her other essentials piled together as well while she packed everything away. She needed only to wear the essential clothing fit for travel at this point, which would've been the tunic and perhaps the under dress. With the pair of leggings she had her boots wouln't get to uncomfortable during the walk back south, but just how far south would she continue to go anyways? Ne'haer seemed like a good place to pick back up in her search, even then however she could only guess how far south she'd have to go in order to find Higan.

Or her father again... one or the two really. If Aelorn were still searching he'd likely be across the sea by now, searching elsewhere in other ports for Higan. Which meant Kayleigh had to be just as determined, and search harder for the little brother that had taken to leave them so quietly. Kayleigh first rested her harp within the bag and proceeded to place it fittingly in a side, and then stuffed her clothes snugly beside it until they too were packed away. Then with the smaller things like her brush and accessories, she filled the rest of the bag and any pockets she could utilize. Overall the process seemed to be going well enough, even if she didn't plan to be traveling back to Ne'haer with anybody. She couldn't think of anyone who'd decide to come along with her, Uphrisca probably would've if she had business back south like Kayleigh did maybe. "I'll have to make sure to say good-bye..."

She thought of Bal first since he'd been kind enough to provide her boarding for the time being, but she also wondered about the others she met here. Finn. Fridgar. She could've sworn there had been more after the Saun's Ascension Festival last season, yet their names unfortunately couldn't quite resurface within the depths of her memory. "No." She shook her head with a slight frown. "No need to distract myself. We're all a part of each other's heart's now, so even if we never meet again we'll still see one another. Some day." She reassured herself even if the statement seemed contradictory at the end. She wrapped up the last of her luggage and proceeded to leave the room she'd been sleeping in. Her rough mattress had been made and the chest and dresser were cleaned out, so that Bal would find a perfectly well kept room waiting for any new guests he'd rent it to. "This is it then." She told herself as she looked at the empty room one last time. As far as she could tell; Kayleigh wouldn't be coming back to this place. Not in this lifetime anyway. "Goodbye. Everyone." She muttered softly as she slowly twisted around to shut the door, the last of her memories here mentally shut away as well.

Though brief she wasn't going to forget her time here at all, in fact Kayleigh planned to use that as a means of improvement. She needed to be more than just braver, she needed to be smarter if she wanted to continue going farther in this world. As she walked down the hall and into the empty lobby, she'd been slightly surprised to see that even Bal had gone to bed at this Break. It seemed that the welcomed night provided bountiful rest for all to enjoy. The thought comforted her nonetheless. She didn't want a long and uncomfortable confrontation to occur, since she'd already found just the thought of saying good-bye difficult. Kayleigh continued to walk softly as she made her way to the door, her hand quietly gave the knob a twist to allow her self the moment to escape beyond. Once outside she could hear the sounds of life then, lilted songs of early birds as they echoed throughout the city. After she'd carefully shut the door Kayleigh turned to the direction of the gates of Uthaldria, and headed southward so that she may put behind her the city she'd unexpectedly grown attached to.

As she walked beyond the gates of Uthaldria into the Southern Expanse of Gauthrel, Kayleigh held her head somewhat high with expectation for herself. She knew the dangers that would await her ahead, she'd managed to briefly face some before with a particular Lotharro. Yet he wasn't here. Nobody but Kayleigh was here to walk the path down south, and while she dreaded to be alone she wanted to face it; to conquer the expanse that would so easily consume weaker individuals. Still she feared the risks and the high possibilities associated with them, well enough to halt to a stop as she remained facing south to the vast wilderness that stretched so far beyond the horizon. She was alone. Alone. Literally by herself in a vast open space that exceeded her capabilities of survival, and yet she would dare to venture out there anyways just to continue onward. To press on and hope her journey wouldn't be cut short, so that she could in turn grow stronger while she searched for her little brother.

"It's a big lonely world out there!" A old feminine voice croaked as the sound of a rickety cart started to fill the air. Kayleigh had nearly jumped out of surprise, from being so caught up in her own mind without noticing the approach of another from behind. A soft laughter filled the air as Kay turned to see that Uphrisca had packed her own essentials, and with the ox there to pull her caravan she looked readily fit for travel. "It's dangerous to go alone dear, have you that sword I once lent you?" The old woman crooned her head as she slowed near Kayleigh in her approach.

"Oh. Uphrisca. You're leaving Uthaldria too?"

"It's that time of the Arc my dear, business here is done and I'll be making my way to Etzos now. It'd been mere chance I ran into out here naturally." The older woman confessed with a soft smile as she looked up near Kayleigh's shoulder, a smile crossed her lips as she noticed the hilt of the blade Kay bought upon their arrival in Uthaldria. "Tis a fine but basic weapon no? Serves the purpose necessary for wandering the world alone. But you needn't be so alone now do you? Where is it you're headed child?"

"Back to Ne'haer actually," Kayleigh vacantly smiled with her hands rested at her hips, "if I restart my search there I might turn up something new about Higan"

"Ne'haer huh? I would've asked y' to come with me to Etzos instead, but if that's your destination then I can manage."

"Huh? Manage? Uphrisca you don't have to..." Kayleigh displayed a look of surprise at the peddler's initiative, which sparked another brief laugh from the elder woman just before she interjected.

"Nonsense dear! I'd rather see you safely in Ne'haer than leave you to the wilds of Gauthrel! Besides a quick stop to Ne'haer could be rather beneficial for me." She took one of Kayleigh's arms and brought her around to the back of the cart. "Here kiddo, place y' pack within the back here and we'll be on our way. Y' can show me how much you've learned with that sword while y' are at it." She reasoned with a calm grin as the winds started to pick up around them, Kayleigh tucked her hair from her face behind an ear as she stood in debate for a moment. Seeing as how the peddler wasn't apt to just easily take a no, it defeated the purpose to refuse her proposition now that they were both out here together.

"Okay." Kayleigh nodded with the agreement as she returned a smile to Uphrisca, the luggage on her shoulders was briefly unloaded onto the cart afterwards. With the alleviated weight able to provide relief on her shoulders, Kayleigh walked alongside Uphrisca and her ox as they started their long hike. Alone she wasn't capable of much, but together with Uphrisca she felt better able to handle the dangers.

Kayleigh was going to Ne'haer.
