"Word gets around when the Circus comes to town, don't it?"

Come one, come all to Corun's Cirque Festivus— the troupe of traveling talents dedicated to entertaining and impressing your humble personages! Need a day away from grueling work on the fields? Looking to spice up your celebrations with terrifying thrills? Well look no further than our splendid company! Master of Ceremonies, Kronos Corun, happily invites you into our tent, for a modest price, to behold a show that will have you at the edge of your seat! Prepare to be both baffled and amazed, for it is not simply a show you will witness, but a challenge of fate as the threads of life dangle on the cusp of death!

OVERVIEW

Corun’s Cirque Festivus is a traveling entertainment troupe that specializes in acrobatic and theatrical performances. They are a far cry from the label of “Freakshow”, but they don’t shy away from the strange, weird, and daring. Whatever will captivate their audience enough to keep the nel flooding in will be given a slot in the show. While the company isn’t massive in size, it’s fairly large for any traveling group and consists of all common races and some usual professions. They hire employees on a contractual basis, usually for an arc at most, and the positions range from guards and hunters to dancers, actors, acrobatics, and singers, to seamsters, crafters, musicians, painters, architects and much more. Cirque Festivus maintains quality shows that are fitted with vibrant, exotic clothes and colors, music, and many props used to overwhelm and entice the guests. Therefore, it is imperative that not only the performers and items are protected, but the durability of all things needed for the show are at their best.

Current Size of Troupe: 63 Members (Including all employed personnel.)

TRAVELING

Unlike most performing groups, the troupe does not limit itself to one place. Corun’s Cirque Festivus visits locations from the far reaches of Scalvoris all the way to the dark waters of Quacia (though don’t ask them to visit again without a six figure advancement!). However, voyage eats up a lot of their performance and practice time, so they don’t normally undertake sea travel unless there’s a major port city close by.

Anyone who is apart of Cirque Festivus is there contractually, which means they must travel with the company or pay a fee for termination. While a tent, a bed, show costumes, and props are provided, everything else is not. Performers are expected to purchase their own food rations, toiletries, bedding, clothes, and anything else they need with the coin given to them after performances. Unless the distance is far, travel expenses must be paid for by the troupe member and if such expenses cannot be met, they will be covered by the Ringmaster on the basis that their contract will extend for another arc.

Shows are performed during the warmer parts of the arc, from Ashan to Vhalar. These performances range in extravagance depending on the areas that are visited. Most often, in small villages, simple roadside displays are put on while the rest of the company rehearses their acts back in camp. When visiting major cities, however, they pull out all the stops as multiple shows are performed weekly, both day and night. Depending on the city, some landmark locations are even rented out by the troupe for special shows.

Performances

Roadside Shows - These performances are free and range from small concerts to simple shows of strength or one acts that use minimal (sometimes crude) costume prep and props. Tips are encouraged and multiple members are assigned to draw a crowd, if possible, and collect any kind of tip— be it coin, food, or material resources.

Demonstration of Skill Shows - A step up from roadside shows, but nothing compared to other performances, these demonstrations are done for a modest crowd and involve a wide variety of small acts ranging from standup comedy, magic tricks, displays of strength, sword throwing/swallowing, ritual dances, instrument performance, and much more. Normally members of the troupe who are considered “shadows” and looking for recognition participate in these shows, as anyone can perform in them, be it dancer, guardsmen, or crafter.

Theatrical Shows - If the Master of Ceremonies is confident a script will catch the audience's interest, he’ll assign the troupe rehearsal for a theatrical performance, be it pure acting or a musical. These shows consist of multiple acts, require the entire ensemble’s support, and usually last for about a season.

Dance / Acrobatic Shows - A common performance put on by the Cirque Festivus. Dance and/or Acrobatic shows are constantly designed, rehearsed, and shown after the previous sets have had a season to run. The Master of Ceremonies demands fresh material for the public, should they arrive in a major city, to discourage redundancy. These types of performances involve group ensemble, a variety of embellished, colorful costumes, and/or aerial displays that may require beams, rope, or silk.

Beast Shows - These performances are considered “intermittent” acts, as the troupe doesn’t travel with a wide variety of exotic animals. The beasts they travel with are comprised of a small pack of dog/wolf hybrids, several Fenrixs, and a Willow Redbear name Auppi. The animals are trained to perform tricks by a Beast Master, with Auppi being the main attraction. Treatment and enclosure care are among the top most priority of the Beast Masters. Under no circumstances are these animals mistreated by the company as they understand an abusive environment reinforces aggressive behavior.

Master of Ceremonies / Owner

Name: Kronos Corun
Race: Human
Date of Birth / Age: 72 Vhalar 685 - 34 Arcs
Skills: Business Management - 30, Appraisal - 30, Detection - 30, Etiquette - 10
Information: Even though he carries the title, Master of Ceremonies, Kronos Corun— better known as K.C.— handles the troupe's show sets more often than actually performing. Literally, he is the conductor of all things the company performs or will perform in the coming future, so he's hired additional Ringmasters to take his place in the shows while he watches from afar. That's not to say the man never engages with his employees, however, keeping track of the business affairs can be rather tedious and time consuming. Due to this, K.C. isn't often seen outside of his tent and if he is, he's engaged in several meetings with potential employees, business clients, or traders.

Before his free time became occupied in business matters, K.C. was a performer in the shows while his father managed the troupe. Standing tall with inky black hair and a body built to support the weight of another for a duration of time, Kronos was well equipped and well honored with the spotlight several times, something that he latched onto and sought after. It garnered him attention, both positive and negative gossip, and encouraged several partners to seek him out for other activities. Even at his father's voiced discouragement, Kronos continued his scandalous behavior. Now, in the present moment, while he remains logical in regards to keeping business and pleasure separate, he won't hesitate to use someone's poor predicament to satisfy his greedy nature. He is perceptive, yes, but greedy.

Ringmaster

Name: Raul Concello
Race: Human
Date of Birth / Age: 2 Zi'da 666 - 53 Arcs
Skills: Sewing - 30, Leadership - 30, Acting - 20, Detection - 20
Information: Raul is an old fellow with salt and pepper hair and the not so subtle age lines everyone knows as wrinkles. However, he's no small fry and has a temper to match his kindness. It's not seen often, but when it surfaces, it most likely involves the Ringmistress, Victoria Lemay. It's known the pair haven't gotten along since Victoria's employment nearly two arcs ago, but Raul tends to brush the fights off by making compromises with the woman. Thankfully, she's keen to those. Aside from his less than amiable partner, Raul is considered the troupe's grandpa. He's full of advice, wisdom, and guidance when one is able to steal his attention away from the odd novel or news article. When he's not in the ring, announcing the acts, his handling publicity for Cique Festivus.

Before his ten arcs with the troupe began, Raul was a simple sartor who took his daughter's place in the troupe when she fell ill from pregnancy and couldn't continue to travel any longer. Unable to terminate her contract, Kronos' father thought Raul's skill was enough to replace his daughter's and so, he signed on to travel, craft, and mend clothes for the performers. At first, the times were rough, busy, and the letters— plentiful. But when the moment came to sail for voyage, Raul had to forfeit more time with the troupe to afford travel. Situations where money was lacking arose often, too often, but he only took notice after signing years of his life away. The letters he received from his daughter stopped coming, and even with his life committed to the company, he was not permitted to travel and see her. Instead, he hopes to save up enough money to break his contract so that he can return home someday.

Ringmistress

Name: Victoria Lemay
Race: Human / Biqaj
Date of Birth / Age: 55 Ymiden 690 - 30 Arcs
Skills: Acting - 30, Acrobatics- 30, Dancing - 20, Teaching - 20
Information: Victoria Lemay is a haughty blonde with piercing purple eyes that only shift to orange when she's upset. Small and lean, this Ringmistress is not someone to mess with as her skills in acrobatics could leave one pinned to the floor with their head crushed between her legs. While Kronos handles business matters and Raul, publicity, Victoria supervises rehearsals and ensures the performers are practicing even during rest periods. She looks after the props and costumes used for shows, and adds her input if things appear too over embellished or lacking thereof. Unfortunately, nothing escapes her eye, not even relationships among the troupe members— something that is severely looked down upon. So committed to her duties, Victoria has no problem stooping to whatever dark and devious means necessary to keep the cast in line. The show must go on, right?

Victoria grew up in Andaris and chanced upon Corun's Cirque Festivus when she was a little girl. It was love at first sight, she thought, watching all the finely dressed dancers spin about in nearly matched rhythm. She wished with all her heart to be up there one day, while that audience saw and cheered for her. From that day forward, Victoria committed her interests to honing her skills in dance, acrobatics, and acting— hoping one day, she would be versed enough in the arts to earn her place among the troupe. When the time came to audition for her spot, she was barely given attention and instead, was coerced into providing a sexual favor in exchange for her spot with the troupe as a performer.

It wasn't mere skill that helped Victoria become the Ringmistress she is today. The woman has committed damnable deeds that lay buried still where they happened. Needless to say, if anyone threatens her position, she's not afraid to commit more atrocities.

Memory

Status: Pending Approval
Name: Tsaia Eas'ba Jasihi-Ri
Relationship to PC: Mother
Race: Sev’ryn
Date of Birth: 31 Ashan 677
Date of Death: 67 Ymiden 706
Skills: Hunting - 30, Field Craft - 30, Ranged Combat (Short Bow) - 30, Teaching - 10
Information: Tsaia was a strong yet gentle spirit and just as committed to the moral values as her Sev’ryn brethren when it came to the preservation and respect of life and nature. Before her departure from her homelands, Tsaia was raped while out with a hunting party, by a member of a rogue group of Sev’ryn who’d followed much darker paths. The man was eventually captured and, once tried by the people, was left to serve his sentence. Tsaia, though broken, decided it was for the best to undertake her journey for her familiar and promptly stole away onto a vessel, leaving behind her homelands for several years thereafter. However, it was during this voyage that the Sev’ryn came to realize she was pregnant with Keama, and while she had the thought to end such entrapment, Tsaia decide to follow her moral code and nurture the soul. It was tough, caring for something never wanted, but over time, her feelings towards the tiny creature shifted. When Keama’nya grew and started to walk and talk, that was truly when Tsaia’s love and duty for her daughter solidified and as a mother, she committed then to her offspring to protect her till her dying breath.

Tsaia was an adventurous sort— she had to be to find her familiar. Her and her daughter spent years on the road and seas, venturing from place to place and never staying longer than a season or two at most. It was only when Keama started to make friends with the locals that Tsaia would pause her search, so that her child could understand the bonds of friendship. Unfortunately, as time dwindled on, it became harder and harder for Tsaia to locate her familiar even though dreams of the creature plagued her often. Falling ill one day, an animalistic desperation overtook her enough to see her bedridden and struggling. It was only when she had enough strength to move that Tsaia packed her things and left with Keama for Desnind. She would not suffer long, however, as a few short weeks later would see the ocean claim her life and leave her daughter orphaned.

Tsaia is an average sized Sev’ryn with chestnut brown hair, deep chocolate eyes, and almond skin. Her features are sharp, cheekbones high, with a curved, feminine jawline to accentuate plush lips. Most people would say Keama is the spitting image of Tsaia, however, her mother lacks the litter of freckles sprinkled all over her daughter. Tsaia is a wise woman and tried her best to follow her logical and religious directories before her emotional ones, a habit she passed onto Keama.

Name: Abbana Ceh'jari Jasihi-Ri
Relationship to PC: Aunt
Race: Sev'ryn
Date of Birth: 18 Saun 680
Skills: Medicine - 30, Surgery - 30, Caregiving - 30, Teaching - 10
Information:Abbana is the younger sister to Tsaia and the Aunt / Caretaker of Keama. She appears as a tall, sturdy, hardworking woman with a matching attitude to boot, but she is known among her people as a healer— which is ironic, to say the least. Much like her sister, Abbana also sports brown hair and eyes, though her skin is a much lighter shade of tan. Nevertheless, she is an old soul of her Sev’ryn people.

Unlike the rest of her family, Abbana was the only one made aware of Keama’s existence from a letter scribed in her sister’s handwriting. So it came as no surprise to her when the girl showed up in Desnind one day, claiming to be Tsaia’s offspring and was nearly shunned for it. While the family was convinced enough to take Keama in, it was obvious they were reluctant to care for the proof of their daughter’s greatest shame. Abbana stepped in and practically stole her away from her family, to raise her niece within her own home.

It wasn’t easy, handling door to door medical visitations while trying to break a walled-off pre-teen out of her shell. Some night were disasterly awkward, while others were… quiet. Instead of leaving Keama to the silence of her quarters, Abbana dragged the girl out with her and from there, she slowly started to work away Nya’s barriers.

Overtime, Keama learned to trust and speak to her, but Abbana noticed that the girl’s presence in the village was spurring some kind of tension. She tried her best to quell such worries, though it became obvious that a day was soon to come when Nya would be ready to leave. Abbana knew Keama was afraid of boats and the ocean, and visited the docks everyday, in passing to the next housecall, to watch the girl attempt to get on a boat, only to run back to the docks.

Then, one night, Abbana came home to an empty house and although she felt loss, the tears she cried were not of sorrow, but joy. Her niece had found the strength she needed, now only time would tell if Keama would succeed in finding her place in the world.

Abbana resides in Desnind still and is a personable caretaker at heart. She's always open to conversations and doesn't mind exploring topics she has little knowledge of.

Name: Evelyn Purnell
Relationship to PC: Family Friend
Race: Human
Date of Birth: 663 (56)
Skills: Agriculture - 30, Animal Husbandry - 30, Animal Training - 30, Falconry - 10
Information: Evelyn Purnell is the mother of Sofia, a girl Keama use to play with when her and her mother settled in Rharne for a time. She became a single mother of two when her husband died at sea shortly into their marriage and has used her own blood, sweat, and tears to help her children grow into the fine adults they are today. She is a joker with a quick wit and humorous personality. Easy going, Evelyn tries to make the best out of most matters, but even she is only human and sometimes lets her temper fly.

The woman tended the fields most days in Keama and Sofia’s youth. While Tsaia and her daughter stayed in Rharne, Nya remembered helping out on the farm with her mother some days. Evelyn always welcomed the help and even offered food and a bed to sleep in if they became too tired to venture back into the city. Needless to say, both family became close very quickly.

Later in life, while working out in the fields, Evelyn suffered a stroke that left her memory impaired and her body, difficult to move. She is senseless now, but cared for by her daughter and some hired help while Sofia tends to the land. Evelyn is a short, thin woman with gray / blond hair and tanned, wrinkled skin from working out in the field most of her life.

Name: Sofia Purnell
Relationship to PC: Childhood Friend
Race: Human / Biqaj
Date of Birth: 694
Skills: Animal Husbandry - 30, Animal Training - 30, Teaching - 30, Falconry - 10
Information:Sofia, much like Keama, is a gentle yet curious girl with a desire to discover all things— even those that tended to put her in harm’s way. Short and blond with golden pink eyes, Sofia carried her thin frame in a very unlady like fashion, but given where she grew up, this wasn’t so out of the norm for most Rharne girls.

Keama and Sofia stumbled upon each other one day when both had climbed the same massive tree and spooked the other. Through happenstance, they became friends and as the bond grew stronger, their trust evolved into unbreakable loyalty. Some days, they played outside in the fields, the roads, the forests, or the city. Some days, they taught each other things— language, hunting, crafting. Sofia grew from Nya and vise versa. Soon, they became a common pair as one was not so far from the other, if only to sleep.

The day Keama left, Sofia was a mess. She felt a loss equal to that of a family member dying and remained in a depressive state for many months after. The girl hoped her Sev’ryn friend would write to her, having scrawled an address on parchment for Nya before she boarded the ship, but year later had provided nothing but faded memories of happier times.

Sofia moved onto other interests, studies, and friends. Her mother, Evelyn, encouraged her to go as far with her education as possible and so, the young girl took up a passion for animal health and husbandry. She took on an internship with the local stable master and studied animal taming and training until her mentor felt Sofia was ready to be out on her own. This lasted a short while until her mother fell with a stroke and became unable to care for herself. Since the wellbeing of her life and her mother’s life rested in her hands, Sofia decided to uproot the crops and lay down fences, barn space, and hire a few helping hands. She’d transformed the place into a sanctuary for animal care and training— something that would generate more income than crop could.

In the present time, Sofia works and resides on the land she grew up on, tending to the animals boarding there.

Name: Sonya Davi
Relationship to PC: Troupe Member / Partner
Race: Human / Sev'ryn
Date of Birth: 693 (26)
Skills: Dance - 30, Endurance - 20, Strength - 20, Acting - 20, Singing - 10
Information: When Keama first joined Corun’s Cirque Festivus, she was unnoticed— as all newcomers were— and kept out of the airways of gossip that Sonya had an ear to. She never even knew of the Sev’ryn until one night, Sonya was forced to perform a sort of stomp routine that led her to having a sprained ankle and was later saved from a disgruntled crowd by Keama. At the time, Sonya didn’t see the woman’s actions as a rescue— having changed places with her in a split moment, under the cloak of a curtain. Instead, she took it as an insult, even more so when Keama was able to finish the routine with more fluid, precise movement than Sonya could pull off even on her best days.

After that, the whole troupe recognized Keama for a breath of a moment, which spurred Sonya’s jealousy enough to confront the Sev’ryn, but she didn’t get so far with hateful words. The conversation exchanged between the two quieted Sonya’s ire and from there, they slowly built a friendship.

Sonya is a tall, mocha skinned, half Sev'ryn that first joined the troupe when she was looking for work and a place to stay nearly five arcs ago, in Etzos. Like many others before her, the opportunity provided by the Cirque Festivus seemed too good to be true and without thinking, she signed her life away. It was only supposed to be for a year, but every time the end of her contract would come up, her gold would seem to be lacking.

Now, she considers Keama a close friend and trusted partner in the troupe, along with Joel. The three take turns looking out for the other, be it rumors, their items, or money.

Personal

Status: Pending Approval
Name: Joel Westry
Relationship to PC: Troupe Member / Partner
Race: Human
Date of Birth: 692 (27)
Skills: Dance - 30, Strength - 30, Teaching - 30, Endurance - 10
Information:Joel and Keama first met during one of the troupe’s many routine rehearsals, after the man received a rather public tongue lashing from Ringmistress Victoria for dropping one of the dancers. He was assigned to help lift Keama for the acrobatic stunts, since both were pretty much near the back for the entire set, and went about clumsily lifting and dropping her several times throughout the practice. Rather than get upset with him, she waved off each of his failures with a mewl of pain, but this didn’t go unnoticed by the other troupe members. Joel was ratted out and taken off dance routines when it was found he couldn’t perform. Tension escalated when rumors of his contract’s potential termination began to cycle through the gossip airways, and with little money to pay for it, Joel was fearful he’d be quietly sold away into slavery.

Keama and her troupe partner, Sonya, decided to pull the man aside in the middle of the night and teach him the proper technique, balance, and skill of dance. This happened over the course of two seasons and as his strength grew, so too did his confidence. Soon, he was put back with the rest of the dancers after it was seen that he’d cleaned up his act. Forever indebted to the pair, Joel far exceeded their expectations as a performer and now, runs some of the rehearsals as an instructor.

Joel is an average height, dark skinned, toned individual who was born in a village just outside of Nashaki. He’s not afraid to show who he truly is and works hard to achieve his goals, no matter the effort needed. While he can be rather blunt, Joel is very perceptive of people, their intentions, and sometimes offers his opinion in matters better left alone.
