Mastemyr Kaidonis
》 Son of Aelig 《
Mastemyr prowled down the hallway and into the courtroom, a throw of excited fairies trailing along with him. One heavy paw before the other, his golden eyes roamed around the expansive chamber as the chaos of preparation rested upon his shoulders. Somewhat. There were others, non-fairies, who were offering aid with a bit less zeal. In the room, he could feel the thrumming buzz and leaned into it, but it fed him nothing. Not all chaos was crisis, after all.
However...
A handful of the fairies that were more high strung than the others were panicking from their choices, and would have smiled if he was physically capable of it. They zipped back and forth in the air, interest locked on their little frames. He took a step forward, and rose up on his hind legs to put his face at their level. Hot breath huffed from his nose and he closed his eyes, taking in the collection of their smells. It wasn't the skulking, manipulating magic of mortal mages, it was fresh. Earthy. Wild.
Mmmm... He missed Emea. He missed Jesnine.
Noticing his interest, one of the fairies landed in front of him and he dropped down as others wove flowers in his fur. This one smelled like herbal tea and electricity, and he purred, burying his nose against their frame. A little nudge and the fairy's wings fluttered until he knocked the creature on it's butt, Mastemyr's nose, cheeks, whiskers rubbing up and down their body as he traded scents. Delicious. A tiny hand reached up to scratch him under the chin and the intensity of his purring increased tenfold.
Someone patted his paw, "Come! We have a special seat for you!"
Another special treatment?
Flower necklaces swung as he was led forward, leaving the fairy on the ground without much thought, his massive paws stepping over his little friend. The others led him and they passed a table with more streamers draped about with colorful madness. It seemed another from the mortal realm had taken notice, and was directing their choice in style, which Mastemyr felt a bit presumptuous. Who was to come into another's home and tell them how to decorate? 'Maybe it's for the best?'
Mastemyr contemplated this, stopping before a seat made of moonlight, lined with emeralds and topped with a thick cushion. He circled it once and pinched his eyes closed. A bit of effort, the Mortalborn drew a pinprick of power, opening his eyes so that his right one matched the green stones. He was pleased, and his body shifted again, suddenly a tall man with wildflowers woven in black hair and teeth a bit too sharp. Necklace after necklace of floral arrangement was draped across his bare chest and when he grinned, he looked as if he held a secret, "Lovely." Mastemyr turned and sat down, running his hands down the armrest, "When should I ring the bell?"
"When everything is ready."
He glanced up at the various seats of honor, "Who will sit upon the others?"
One of the fairies gave him a curious look, "The Kings and Queens."
Obviously.
Four other seats were lined up, and he tried to remember what he knew of fairies. There were courts, but he couldn't remember them all. Did they represent the four seasons of Idalos? Winter, summer, spring and fall? Yaralon only had two. Hot and Cold. Or as Mastemyr called it - Rainy and Not-As-Rainy. He tapped his chin in thought as bunnies began to flood the room.
He watched their little bodies hop across the floor, rising on back legs to nibble at decorative plants. Breath tightening, he stared at them without blinking, "Why are there rabbits here?" He wasn't angry, but a tension had entered his body.
"Because all citizens in our realm deserve a voice in its governing."
"Diplomatic," he wasn't disappointed, but how could he focus? How could he behave as he had sworn? Mastemyr chewed his lip, cut the skin and tasted blood. He could smell them, hear their little feet scuffle across the floor. They looked so... delectable. "I'll be good. I'll be good. Good. Good. Good. Good-" The word stuck to his tongue, refused to let go and he gave another shake of his head to loosen the sticky thought. A rabbit came hoping from the corner of his vision and he launched himself to his feet as fast as any perfect predator, a chattering sound crackling from the back of his throat, as he slid into a crouch. He prowled forward, heart beat picking up and he watched their long ears twitch, clutching his clawed hands to his chest, with voice a breathy whisper, "I promised."
