Re: The Rise of Rhaum; The Fall of Rharne.

Ever since Praetorum had triggered the runes the day before, every waking moment had felt like it was going by in slow motion to Vivian. Her reaction time and processing speeds were already extremely high by normal standards, letting her catch arrows mid flight and other such feats of reflex. One of the Runes that Praetorum had given her, however, had boosted her reaction time and processing speed to an utterly absurd degree. It had been somewhat alarming at first, but she had spent the day adjusting to it. Now, it would prove perhaps her greatest asset against their foes. She was primed and ready to move the moment one of them did something, and the moment Rhaum turned to his ally, Vivian triggered Rising Lightning and jumped.

She did not, however, jump straight for Rhaum or the veiled one. That would have been too obvious, they would have planned for that. Instead, she lept to the side. The leap, which was inordinately fast due to being powered by Rising Lightning, felt almost like normal speed to her, and with the boost she was able to do two things. The first was to gather lightning for a second jump the moment her feet left the ground, and the second was to notice that with the strength and endurance boosts she had received from Varlum and Praetorum, plus her own regenerative power, had made the cost of using Rising Lightning to move this way completely negligible. When she landed, she didn't even have to wait the usual second it took to process that she had landed, she was able to leap again the moment she touched the ground.

She kept this up for a bit, using the time in between when she left the ground and when she landed to come up with a plan that she didn't think they'd catch onto. Finally, she gave a half feral grin under her helmet and made a leap so that she was between Rhaum and his veiled ally, facing Rhaum. She already had a charge of Rising Lightning ready and she used it to leap, but instead she lept backwards, reversing her sword so that it was facing behind her mid-leap. The aim was to run the ally through, but whether she hit him or not, she had lightning gathered before she landed and lept the moment the first leap was created, forwards and to the side again. Then she waited for the next opportunity to attack, never staying in the same place for more than the time it took to jump again, always watching both opponents to see where they would be attacking.

Re: The Rise of Rhaum; The Fall of Rharne.

As quickly as Varlum had tried to negotiate everything had fallen apart, not that the Ithecal expected anything else. But he didn't mind. After everything he had seen been done at the hands or order of this man, Varlum had no issues fighting him, no concerns for his well being. Children had been mutilated and killed, information had been taken from underneath their noses and written about Varlum and the people he loved in a book. Rhaum, Icarus, whoever the fuck these names were? They died. Today.

As Vega lunged forward and missed, a whirling flame appearing where the man had stood once, Varlum froze a little. His sister was the best fighter he had ever seen before she had the Runes that Prae had given her - and he sidestepped her like it was nothing. The blazing fires around him made him seem dangerous, but Varlum could handle heat. Especially with the flask at his side. Momentarily, Varlum reached down to his belongings, carefully using two fingers, Varlum grabbed a silver flash. Despite being double the height, Varlum was a Smith. He could handle fine movements. Carefully, he took a drink from the flask for a moment and used the gift Ilaren had given him. Ilaren's Hot Today, a brew that made him immune to extreme temperatures, or so he had been told. This was his first time using it.

Thanks to Vega's bond, the others might know what he was doing. Maybe not. He didn't have much time to tell them, as useful as the buff could have been earlier. He had to do what he did best now. He had to protect the allies that had been brave enough to fight alongside him. Dropping the flask to the floor, Varlum stepped forward a few paces, activating Serpent's Hood and making himself seem a bigger target than he already was. Then he roared. Dragon's Cry, a roar that echoed two miles and put fear in the hearts of anyone with a discipline lower than his own IntimidationVarlum's intimidation is 75/250 and making him even more of a threat to his enemies, encouraging them to attack him rather than anyone else. Inspire would prevent his allies from feeling the effect of the fear, however. As he cried out like the Dragons he was created from golden scales surrounded him, wings spanning out around him as the shape of a golden dragon wrapped around him, spiritual armor increasing the sharpness of his claws and granting him flight should he need it.

Then it was time to fight.

Varlum, although he didn't really know his domains, was the Mortalborn of Ferocity. The Mortalborn of Violence. Everything about those domains made sense to the Ithecal, it was how he had always been. As a soldier and one of the biggest Ithecal, even before his transformations, he was always capable of ferocity that very few others could match. Which meant this was nothing new. As he made his approach forward, Varlum decided to go all in. His charge was quick, ready to throw as many blind strikes against the purveyor as he could. "For Rharne!" the Ithecal roared out, enabling Nobility's Endurance and giving himself and all of his allies a boost to endurance. Then he activated Enduring Scales, increasing his own resistance to damage even further. It was all he could do, it was everything he had. But he had to ensure he lived long enough for the next part to matter.

Suddenly, Vega would feel faster, Varlum using Pocket of Time on her and making her even quicker. He felt her plan to go all-in. He knew it. So she would need speed. Pocket of time, while it only lasted two minutes, would increase her speed even further. Then he swung. Claw after claw, some snaps of his teeth, and any other attempt at being impossible to ignore were all he could do. If he could take blows and live for even two Bits then he would be valuable. If he couldn't? If nothing he did mattered and he was dead in the next few moments, unable to resist the power of Rhaum and the Purveyor, so be it. All he could do was hope his friends would be able to continue on, to figure out a strategy. They could win. Because if they couldn't a lot of people would die.

All he asked for was a statue or two when he was gone.

Re: The Rise of Rhaum; The Fall of Rharne.

38 Vhalar 720
Well that didn't work. A single thought crossed Balthazar's mind when he felt the heat beginning to build up behind his eyes and he stopped trying to attune with Rhaum and the Purveyor. He knew better than to push it and force the link in such a situation. The Purveyor removed his veil revealing an unfamiliar Lotharro face to the mage. He did not recognize the man but it didn't matter. Rhaum said something to Icarus about weak ones. Weak ones? Alright. Fine.

The one beside Icarus, Rhaum, burst into flames and began shifting in size but Vega had already moved on the attack and Balthazar thought she would have it under control so he focused on the other, Icarus, who was pulling stones from his pocket. Strike now. Strike hard! But Balthazar just watched and tried to assess what was happening. Rhaum turning into a monster of flame and stretched limbs was certainly captivating to watch, but Balthazar was not watching him. As soon as he realized he could not attune to them, he changed his plan and he just needed to do some quick calculating in his head. Rhaum and Icarus were within eyesight, there wasn't really much around to give anyone cover which worked in Balthazar's favor and against him at the same time. He could blink around in an instant, going from one spot to the next within his line of sight but he could not bring the others with him as quickly. He could, however, keep any projectiles away with portals.

Even with his vision enhanced by Praetorum's runes, the mage could not count the total number of stones in Icarus's hand when it came back out from inside his pocket. It didn't matter though, what mattered was that Balthazar saw Icarus pull the stones out. The first stone crashed into the floor and Balthazar heard an all too familiar sound loudly breaking the air. Portal! Balthazar stepped back and looked around for the egress. Rupturing was an arguably predictable magic when you knew it was being used. The ingress did not matter, what mattered was the egress. The egress was where your enemy came from, only it wasn't an enemy that came through this egress- it was a second small, black rock.

Alchemy. Blood magic. Little rocks like the ones from the fractures in Yaralon. Those were the things that made the most immediate sense to the mage who knew how creating portals should have worked. A small black rock was not a mage, it should not have been able to make portals. However it could easily have been something created with blood magic like the blindfold Doran had made from his blood. It didn't matter. A lot of little things didn't matter in the moment. What mattered was stopping the rock from hitting the ground. The first one tore open a portal, who knew what the second one was going to do? Thinking of the capabilities of Rupturing alone, Balthazar did not want to find out. Catch it! No don't catch it, it might break in your hand! It didn't break in the blonde's hand. You aren't the blonde, you don't know how fragile it is. Well, it wasn't fragile enough not to be in a pocket with other stuff. Away.

The last thought did not entirely feel like his own but he trusted the impulse. Get the stone away from them. Normally he might not have been fast enough to do anything about a rock coming through an egress and dropping onto the floor but these were far from normal circumstances and before the rock had hit the ground, the cyclone had not begun so Balthazar's ether was plentiful. Praetorum's sight and speed runes gave the mage the edge he needed to turn towards the egress before the stone broke and a small wave of his hand caused another loud rip as a flaming portal burn to life in the air, consuming the stone and shooting it out an egress he made as far away as he could on short notice so it would not break near them.

As soon as the portal consumed the rock and spat it out, the portal was fading away and Balthazar was on the move away from Woe and Praetorum. Vivian, Varlum, and Vega moved close while Balthazar kept himself on the perimeter of the battle, trying to put distance between himself and the other mages so that they could not all be attacked at once again. His hand fell to his sword hilt and wrapped around it but he did not draw the sword yet. He was looking for an opening. He could not strike first so he'd make sure that when he did strike, it hurt. Vivian, Varlum and Vega were moving in quickly on the attack with swords and other implements of destruction so Balthazar decided he would use something else. He had a good sword, but the space around their enemies was becoming crowded with swords and large bodies.

Sparks began to dance off the master defier's arms while his mind raced with enhanced focus and sight. He could see so much and comprehend it but he still found himself plagued by temporary indecision. That would get him killed. Back to basics. Strike. So he did. He needed a better angle so he made one. A blink portal. A fast, almost unseen portal that wrapped around Balthazar in a puff of blue flame and smoke then shot him out a few dozen feet away from where he had been, not necessarily closer to Icarus who was already in his range, but somewhere he'd have a better view of the target. He held his hand out towards the mortalborn. Sparks danced around his arm as his mutation flared and the wind began to dance with wisps of heat in the air.

A trill later, a bolt of lightning shot down from the grey sky at Icarus. Balthazar's logic was that if he'd conjured a bolt in his hand and thrown it, he might miss and hit Vivian who was moving almost too quickly for him to really track. So instead of making and throwing the bolt, he had moved closer to ensure Icarus was in his range and refined the elements above the monster. One trill sparks were beginning to dance in the air and the next... well... zap. Hopefully a painful zap.

Action
Rupturing (Master) - Balthazar attempts to open a portal on the ground to stop the second stone from breaking between Praetorum, Woe, and himself. He opens an egress and attempts to break the stone beside Icarus. Also to blink to a better angle.
Defiance (Master) - Summon a bolt of lightning to hit Icarus.
Buffs
Rupturing (Master) - Grants Balthazar a ten foot sphere of motion sensing around his body, and he instinctively knows the distance he is looking.
Fire Forged - Reforged: A Fireforged will find that their skin is like a leather armor and their bones like iron rods, making them more resistant to blunt physical damage.
Praetorum's Runes - 3x Strength, 3x Speed, 4x Endurance on all four limbs; 8x Focus, 2x Sight on head; Rune of Resistance on back.
Song of Hope (Vega) - Boosts Balthazar's Blades skill from Expert to Master.
Tune Bound - Can fight as if having a qylios bond with allies around him
Equipment
Masterwork Grave Gold Armor
Masterwork Faldrunium Katana
Two Masterwork Grave Gold Spring Loaded Daggers
Good+ Grave Gold Hammer (Enchanted)
word count: 1274

Mutations

  • Once Paradigm Is Removed: He glows faintly, his skin is warm and sometimes hot to the touch, and when he gets angry sparks literally fly off him. He's a the middle of a field of static electricity so every once in a while when you touch him, you get shocked. Fire leans towards Balthazar and droplets of water seem magnetically attracted to him. He has a series of cracks on his right pectoral that glow of soft emerald. His eyes and the cracks reaching down to his cheeks glow a dark blue. The etheric cracks spiderwebbing up his arms glow orange.

Scars

  • Oops, Oops, Ouch: Balthazar Black has twenty scars across his back from a lashing as well as scars on his hands and arms from jagged rocks in Faldrass. There are two scars on the sides of his abdomen from being stabbed and a slash across his back which blends in with the whip scars.

38th Trial of Vhalar during Arc 720

We Don't Run
Take a look around you, yeah, the sky is falling
Sinners say your prayers this train is off the tracks
Nothing is forever when tomorrow's calling
Dancing with the devil to get one day back

I'm not afraid of burning bridges
'Cause I know they're gonna light my way
Like a Phoenix, from the ashes
Welcome to the future it's a new day

We don't run
I'm standing my ground
We don't run
And we don't back down

There's fire in the sky
There's thunder on the mountains
Bless each tear and this dirt I was born in (run)

We don't run
We don't run

Take me to the banks of your muddy water
Where the flesh and blood and the spirit meet
Only takes your touch for me to find salvation
You're the only reason that I still believe

I'm not afraid of burning bridges
'Cause I know they're gonna light my way
Like a Phoenix, from the ashes
Welcome to the future it's a new day

We don't run
I'm standing my ground
We don't run
And we don't back down

There's fire in the sky
There's thunder on the mountain

Bless each tear and this dirt I was born in (run)
We don't run
We don't run
We don't run

I'm standing my ground
We don't run
And we don't back down
There's fire in the sky
There's thunder on the mountain
Bless each tear and this dirt I was born in (run)

We don't run
We don't run
We don't run

Fire in the sky
Thunder in the mountains
Where the flesh and blood and the spirit meet.......

Once upon a time, Vega Lei'nox, as she was then, had killed a man. The first man she'd ever ended the life of. She'd been outclassed, out skilled and out numbered. But sheer bloody grit and stubbornness had won the trial. Because the man - the men - in question had harmed Arlo. So, she'd pulled from her deepest reserves, got seven shades of the Beneath kicked out of her. But they'd lived, her and Arlo - who'd come to find her - who had saved her from being completely overwhelmed. They'd lived.

As she struck at Rhaum, Vega realised that she wasn't likely to get seven shades of the Beneath kicked out of her. As he acted before she managed to, as he was faster than her, Vega felt a sense of serenity come over her. Back all those arcs ago, the first man she'd killed, Vega had moved on instinct. Unskilled, untested, untrained but filled with fire and fury. But now? Now she was far... far from untrained.

And still, he was faster than her. She wasn't going to get seven shades of the Beneath kicked out of her. He was - very possibly - going to send her there.

But frankly? He could bet on the fact that she'd be taking him with her.

So, Vega knew what she had to do. She didn't even really think about it, so much as she just saw the situation and respondedmaster tactics and, also, of course, she was bonded with those who fought here. She knew that Varlum was moving, that Prae was defending, that Vivian was bouncing around like a bean. She could feel it ~ she could feel them all. Genna's bravery shone out, for her, more than anything. Because Genna was no warrior. Neither an attacker or defender, not someone who fought at all and yet still, she was here. She was here and she was moving and she was acting.

And Vega knew, in that moment. These two might be faster, more skilled, more useful. But they would never win because each of the people here representing Rharne? They all had heart and soul; even if the battle was lost, then these two wouldn't win. So, Vega was aware of the others - the white haired mage, the red-haired blokie and, of all things, someone who looked like Misery from her dreams. But she didn't have time - no time at all - to notice more than that as she switched tactics.

Vega went all-out assault. As she did, she sangShe slows down Pimpernickel and the Veiled Blunder to half their speed. a sea shanty. It took no concentration to do that, she purposely chose one she knew and had sung since she'd been a very tiny child.

Her brother, Varlum, he was doing the same, she knew. She was able to withstand the heat, and so she went for him - for the Pimpernickel. Her swordTier 2, I know you know! flashed with the full extent of her acrobaticsmaster and she used the full extent of the tacticsupped to master she had to cut him. There were a lot of them, and only two opponents, so Vega switched what she did and she went from direct, killing blows to incredibly fastreaction speed improved, speed x 3, Varlum's increase "Pocket of Time" and debilitatingstrength GM x 3 blows, each one aimed and directed with his movements. As he lifted a hand, she sliced under it, taking advantage of the opening. He turned his gaze, she put her sword in his eye or cut across his forehead. Whatever he did, however he moved, Vega moved to the utmost of her strength, her ability, alongside her brother, in order to cut the Pimpernickel into bits.

And she hoped and prayed that others had their eyes on the other one. Vega's Diri was wrapped around her, and as Vega fought, so too did Snuffle cry out encouragement. Wrapped in armour made from the bond of the two of them, Vega was, if nothing else, relentless in raining blows upon this murderer. As her brother rained claws and teeth, Vega's sword moved and she cut, and she cut, and she cut.

If needs be, she decided, she'd turn him into a jigsaw.

Abilities Vega uses
  • Bond (Moderate) with Vivian, Varlum, GennadiyaThe Adored can Bond with up to 3 other people. In doing so all Bonded individuals gain the single glowing band around their left forearm. The Bond remains as long as both the Adored and those Bonded allow it. The Bond only functions within 1000 feet of the Adored, and dissipates shortly beyond that distance. Images and feeling can be willed across the Bond. The higher the sender’s Discipline, the more details can be relayed.
  • Bound Beyond Blood with Vivian, Varlum, Gennadiya The Adored can share in the Racial Bonus' of those whom they have Bonded, and share their own Racial Bonus with the Bonded. 10 points of the Adored's Racial Bonus are shared with those they have Bonded, and 10 points of each Bonded’s Racial Bonus is shared with the Adored. - Vega's RB is Meditation - Vega gives 10 XP in Meditation to all three.
  • Bound in Battle with Vivian, Varlum, Gennadiya The Favored and those Bonded with them are better able to fight together. Their tactics and movements flow almost seamlessly with little-to-no spoken communication. The Bond passes insights and slight thoughts between those Bonded while in combat together. - we fight together seamlessly
  • Bound Tongue The Favored is able to understand one Fluent Language of those they have Bonded. The selected language can be changed once per trial.
  • Shooting Star - Gennadiya A Bow can be blessed to emit a ray of star light in a path that displays the trajectory of the arrow nocked upon it. This does not affect the shooter's ability to maintain this aim, and if the light moves from the target upon release of the arrow, the shot will still miss the mark. This effect can be called upon three times a trial.
  • Fulcrum of Fervour - all who were there The Blessed can select a single word to empower with the ability to spread optimism. When he cries it, those nearby may take up the cry, compounding the power and range of it's uplifting effect. The fervor generated by this collective outcry will last until dawn of the next trial. This can only be cast once per cycle. At "Exalted", it can be cast three times per cycle. (word is Victory)
  • Spread the Word - Gennadiya & Praetorum Spread the Word The Blessed can make additional individuals the central focus of "Flow of Morale", "Calming Overcast", "Cooling/Warming Trend", "Night Torch" or "Dry Ice Cloud" without it costing him his charge of its use. This second person must be willing, but can only be given one of these boons at a time. The Blessed can bestow several of the same boon, or one each of several if he chooses. One of each -Genna & Prae can use Xiur-granted abilities.
  • Song of Hope - all who heard her play Vega has developed her ability to the point that she can use sound as a means of increasing the skills of those around her. Her devotion to Xiur and Qylios is such that she is determined to be hopeful, and to always do her best. She can play and, when she plays, it gives a boost to the skills of those who hear it. When Vega focuses on a group and actively uses this ability - she is able to inspire them to be the very best version of themselves. Any and all who are in the room / area where she plays (so not someone that hears it in passing, they have to be listening) have a +1 level bonus on a non-magic skill for the next trial (so, novice becomes competent, competent becomes expert etc). This skill will be directly linked to the focus Vega has so - if it is in a camp preparing for battle, for the soldiers it will be a combat skill - but the cook for that camp would gain a bonus to cooking for the troops. No more than one bonus per day can be given. - everyone gains a +1 level to a skill they choose, but must be their focus for this battle. Vega's skill choice is TACTICS - which she'll up to Master.
  • Tune Bound - all who heard her play Following on from her capstone, this ability allows Vega to effective 'buff' a group who hear her play. So inspiring is her music that, when she is attempting to instill any emotion linked with the Domains of Xiur or Qylios, she gives them the ability to fight together, as though they are bonded as per the Qylios mark. Whole groups can function together, fighting as one with each individual having full knowledge of what is going on in the battle. All of the people who are bonded in this way must have heard Vega play at the same time, and within the last trial. This applies to herself, as well.
  • Hold The LineThe Favored is able to bolster the morale of any who stand with them. The call rings out and dispels fear in the defenders, whether mundane or magical. Those affected by the shout gain a small boost in stamina and the use of a shield. The effects of this ability last for ten bits, and can only overcome magical fear effects from other Marks of the same tier or lower. Any fear effects caused by Domain Magic can be overcome as follows: Favored can overcome Magic at a Competent level or lower, Adored can overcome Expert level or lower, and Exalted can overcome Master level or lower. Vega is Adored
  • Flow of Morale- all allies in this threadThe Blessed is able to bring a brief surge of hopeful resolve to those around him. Within 10 feet, this lasts for eight bits; to 20 feet, it lasts for five bits; to 30 feet it lasts for two bits. At "Adored", double either the range or duration. At "Exalted", double both. (Vega is Exalted - so it's allies within 60ft for 4 minutes)
  • Vega's Sword Melody: A masterwork sea blue crystal sword forged from the body of Perfection. This sword is nearly as hard as Adamantite and slices just as cleanly. On the flat of the sword several words will appear when the blade is held in the right light that only Vega can see. The words are: "May You Never Break".

Melodic Ballad: Melody is unique as it 'sings' when the blade in swung creating a bright resonate tone that sounds similar to the sharp peal of an echoing bell. The sound is not loud enough to startle anyone but it can be heard even amid the din of an ongoing battle. The Melodic Ballad creates an aura around the wielder roughly twenty feet in diameter that will cause enemies to be put on edge and be innately intimidated by the wielder. Enemies will be more likely to flee, especially if they do not possess at least Competency in Discipline. Something about Melody's sharp piercing voice; although beautiful seems to unnerve opponents, while leaving allies completely alone. This effect is dependent on Vega's opinions of the people around her. [NOTE: This effect is strengthened slightly and it's radius of effect increased by ten feet when in use alongside the sword Harmony

March to Arms: Vega will find over time that, after using the sword for several trials [20 trials] that Melody will return to her hand if she focuses enough on the sword, the blade with resonate with it's telltale song before flying into her grasp, as if borne on an invisible wind. This effect can only be achieved if the sword is within her line of sight. This ability cannot be used to harm others as Melody will always move around obstacles before returning to it's master's hand.

► Show Spoiler

Used On Pimpernickels and TVB
They should be slowed down to half their speed.
The ability is: Unlike her father, the Immortal of Turmoil, Vega is able to see the rhythm in a given situation. In combat, in her innate musical talent, in dancing or even in her worship, Vega is able to see the patterns and sense the rhythm in any circumstance. However, in order to do that, she needs to step back and take a clear look at the situation. With this ability, Vega is able to slow the tempo of a situation down, so long as she is playing an instrument or singing. When she is doing this, she is able to manipulate the tempo of a combat. This impacts up to three people and allows Vega to either speed up the tempo, for them (thus making them faster moving) or slowing it down (thus, slower). In practical terms, it allows her to speed up or slow down up to three individuals in a combat by a factor of 50%. This must be either speeding up, or slowing down and can not be both at once.

It should be noted that she has never done this since coming to Storm's Edge, only ever speeded herself up. In fact, she's only ever used it once, at sea, on the boat where she and Arlo live, when they were practicing.

Re: The Rise of Rhaum; The Fall of Rharne.

Genna being moved farther back then the others armed with her bow and doing a box step to keep the effects of the shoe’s going. She didn’t get the best view of Gennadiya and the now flaming man go at it. Her clue was the resonation that came through the bond that she shared with the red haired warrioress. Genna was sure that the man sudden bursting into flames didn’t help her friend as she attacked. The sapphire eyed woman also heard and saw the other named Icarus start throwing gems.

The Favored of Ymiden could see into the blazing inferno but was sure that she was among the few. She could see that while his head was human and had stayed the same, the rest of him had changed. He was now one of the monsters. Genna quickly played back the conversation. No the other man was the monster maker, and this lunatic had most likely willing undergone the change. That made Genna wonder if there wasn’t a gem controlling the changes.

While dancing Genna considerable focusedExpert Discipline also 8x focus on the bond and projected the image of the creature to her allies so that they were aware of what know they were fighting. She made certain they were aware of the tail especially since that looked like it could cause damage. Once she felt certain that she had passed the message on she turned her attention to the other man with his gems with spells.

She noticed how easily the first shattered and she remembered on of the abilities that Vega had shared with her. So moving quickly thanks to the [notes=mark]3x speed[/notes] she pulled upon Vega’s Spread the word. Vega had told her about the abilities it would let her uses and the healer pulled on Dry Ice cloud The cold of the void between the stars infuses this ground-level cloud with a near paralyzing cold. Joints grow stiff, hands grow numb on weapons, movements and communications are hindered by shivering, weapons and armor may become brittle. This has essentially the same game impact as "Eyes of Dusk", but is an Area-of-Effect power that covers 100 sq.ft.. Planned to place it so that Rhaum would be more at the edge and hoped Vegan and Varlum could resist but also push him father in. Her main goal was to put Icarus and his stones in the cold. If they broke that easily on the ground she hope that they would all just break from the freezing cold since this could also make armor brittle. She also wanted slow down the man. She also hope that the other man's flames would burn through his own energy are a much faster rate and there by tiring him out.

Genna sent the warning along the bond about her plan to warn if anyone wanted to move and then she dropped the ability where she planned. Navile was squeaking on her head wonder what she could do. Genna was still a newer Warden and so didn’t have all of the abilities the others had. Instead the spirit took another route. She collected bottled of Oasis water from Genna’s bag and floating lobbed them at the burning villain.

Genna returned her attention back to her bow and pulling it back and aimed at Rhaum, keeping the light from that Vega had put on her bow focused on Icarum's eyes as currently he wasn't fighting. If she got a good shot she would Expert Rangetake it

Buffs and Items

Bright Eyes The Blessed is able to look into any level of natural brightness with no debilitating effect. This means no attempt to dazzle him with natural light will work. He is able to enjoy this resistance for ten bits (minutes) per trial for each ability he has in this mark. Magically created dazzling effects may work against him however.

Painted Sunrise (Minor) The Blessed can enhance the color of anything with the colors of the sunrise.

Saoire's Kiss - A small snow-globe that, when shattered, will instantly summon snow clouds and transform the surrounding area into a winter wonderland for the next trial. During this time the player will always find food, the cold will not find them, they will leave no tracks in the snow or scent to follow, and ice will never shatter beneath their feet. It is as if they are temporarily exempt from the dangers of winter. They can only use this item once, but the effect will last for an entire trial and cover the entire city they are in. here

Dancing Shoes - Red leather ankle boots made from soft, supple leather of Good + Quality. When she wears them, they appear to be normal shoes - however - whenever she dances, the music that she is hearing in her head / imagining is heard, playing for all. This can be very quiet or up to the volume of a full orchestra - depending on what Vega is imagining in her mind.

Upon hearing the music play - which continues as long as Vega is dancing - those who are allied to her are afforded a boost. In order to be affected by this they must be allied with her, AND be working towards a common goal. If that is the case, then she and her allies will find themselves surrounded by an individual armour which functions as full plate, but is weighless, totally flexible and invisible to the naked eye other than a ripple of air waves which it is, in fact, made up from.

Mosekes Bandage: The bandage that was used to treat Moseke's wound was left behind. The bandage is impervious to infection and can be used multiple times but must be washed in-between uses.
The Veil of Sight: The wearer finds that their sight is unable to be hindered through magical or physical means. They can automatically see through any material placed over their eyes. They are also able to see through both smoke and darkness without requiring any additional light, though they do not have the ability to see through walls and doors. This ability will also counter the vision aspect of the Naerikk’s Gift of Shadows.

Ilaren's Token: a seemingly normal coin, but with the insignia of Ilaren, three lightning bolts clutched in a fist, printed upon one side. At his time of greatest need, clutching the coin in her fist and offering a prayer to Ilaren has a chance to draw her to answer her call, and perform an act to rescue her from danger. This will only work if Ilaren is not otherwise indisposed at that moment - and Ilaren will only answer this call once, upon which time it becomes an ordinary, if pretty, coin.

Ranged bow skill at Expert for battle thanks to Vega.

Plus the group bonus as set out above by other players.

Re: The Rise of Rhaum; The Fall of Rharne.

Rhaum burst into flame, and Prae swore under his breath as Sap cried out in pain and panic. He severed the connection between Sap and Rhaum without hesitation, leaving only the connection with the one Rhaum had named as Icarus.

The lotharro in question flicked his wrist, smashing a stone onto the ground beside him—then, the unmistakable sound of a rupturing portal. Alarm rose in Prae then as his eyes flicked over the other handful of stones. Somehow, he doubted the rest of them all contained rupturing portals as well. Breaking the stone had cast one type of magic—why not others? Not defiance, if he was smart, but abrogation or necromancy, maybe.

It didn't matter. All Prae needed to know was that those were Icarus' weapons. Sure enough, there was another flick of the wrist, and then Prae's attunement spark felt something small appear, hurtling through the air behind him. If Prae had been alone, he might have turned and caught the stone on his shield, or else slap it out of the air with his tail—but he wasn't alone.

Ever since Vega had played her song earlier that trial, Praetorum had felt a sense of oneness with his allies—a feeling that they moved and fought with one mind; he felt it now, in the immediate understanding that Balthazar too, had spotted the projectile, that the other mage's mind was racing to figure out how to deal with the situation.

Praetorum had no such moment of indecision. As soon as he felt that Balthazar had spotted the stone, the solution had come immediately to his hone enhanced mind—he needed Balthazar to portal it away.

He felt Balthazar start to move, and turned his full attention onto Icarus, trusting in his old friend to deal with the projectile. In the span of a heartbeat, he took in the situation—Vega was fighting Rhaum, Varlum was closing in, Vivian had chosen to use hit and run tactics.

Prae could work with that.

He charged at Rhaum, with all the speed he felt he could controlFocus runes x8 and competent running for control, speed runes, paltharnum sprinting and point bank running footwraps for a total of 3*2*2= x12 speed, until he was within five meters of both his enemies.

Then the glaive vanished from Prae's hand, dismissed back into the silk scabbardA long strip of silk. When wrapped around the grip or handle of a weapon, and meditated on for ten bits, the weapon disappears, and a small image of that weapon appears somewhere on the silk. Afterwards, if the silk is wrapped around someone’s wrist, that person is able to summon to their hand any weapon that is stored in the Scabbard, as well as dismiss it back in.

and then Prae, too, disappeared—

only to reappearGate-ring allows Prae to teleport to any destination within 5m that he can see right behind Icarus, his right hand already starting to form a rune, while with his left he thrust his shield out to smash against Icarus's back.

"Etzos." Prae barked out as soon as the shield made contact, activating the runic trap Woe had set on his shield moments ago.
A chained rune of night and fatigue

He wasn't done yet.

It only took two or three trills for Prae to overload a rune, and his shield bash had bought him that time. There was a spray of electric blue light as Prae reached for the Lotharro, and then a flash as Prae laid an overloaded rune of strength onto Icarus's arm—the one holding the stones. With the rune overloaded so, and without a rune of resistance, Icarus shouldn't be able to use that arm without shattering it entirely, hopefully preventing him from using the stones long enough for them to take him down. Or for one of them to take his other hand off as well.

Then there was the telltale crackle of electricity in the air, and Prae backed off, summoning his glaive to his hand. Whatever Balthazar was doing, Prae didn't want to be caught in it.

Re: The Rise of Rhaum; The Fall of Rharne.

Image

Others joined the scene of the battle before it began to get underway, including of course, none other than Balthazar. He who was nothing short of a gravity well for the worst kind of trouble. Nonetheless, Woe was glad to have Bombeiro on his side once again, especially against such formidable enemies. Yet for that, he wondered how useful his fire would be against the one who was engulfed by it...

Nevertheless, Woe wasn't going to let the battle slip by without a chance to act. The focus rune placed upon his head opened him up to a new level of consciousness. His thinking quickened and improved beyond anything he could've imagined. Is this what the Lucis enhancement felt like? Perhaps the Umbral Arachnid had chosen wrong... And yet this magic could be quite the potent drug. Woe didn't know if he'd ever be satisfied with less focus than he was getting at the moment. That is, if he or any of the others survived this battle.

Whatever the case, he found himself improved beyond his reckoning. The two runes he recognized on his limbs, strength and endurance, and one other... Speed? He certainly felt faster as he began after Praetorum, homing in on Icarus' position as the Ithecal made far
greater pace than Woe was capable of.

Yet, should Woe come close enough, he would snap his whip out. At this point in his development as a Runewright, the drawing of runes was less about the actual writing, and more about focused intent to inflict whatever curse he intended upon its victim. With a few strokes of a writing instrument, a hand, or in this case, a weapon he was extremely
proficient in
, he could inflict his cursed Rune of Fatigue. He wouldn't need a few strokes, however. A single stroke could radiate in an area around the site of the strike, allowing Woe to more or less
stamp
the rune through and beneath any armor Icarus might be wearing. He targetted the Lotharro's solar plexus,
activating in the same moment, his mortalborn ability to quicken his weapon-arm, while surrounding it in a protective coating.

He tasked all the ether he was capable of to the rune, which was about six fold decrease to Icarus' endurance, and didn't bother with a trigger, allowing it to activate upon application, and then unleashed the power of the rune to the rest of the Lotharro's body with the technique, Grasping Frailty.

Woe rounded out his assault by lashing the Lotharro in the face.

Effects Woe puts on Icarus
Hone -

-Rune of Fatigue: x6 decrease in Endurance for Icarus
-Grasping Frailty: The endurance rune spreads out from Icarus' core to the rest of his body.
Effects accepted from others
Hone - 3x Strength, 3x Speed, 4x Endurance on all four limbs; 8x Focus, 2x Sight on head; Rune of Resistance on back. from Praetoruml
Attunement - Static: Scrambles up to nine people's frequencies—interferes with abilities meant to gather information on them (Varlum, Vega, Vivian, Gennadiya, Balthazar, Woe)
Song of Hope (Vega) - Boosts Woe's Endurance skill from competent to Expert.
Tune Bound - Can fight as if having a qylios bond with allies around him
Effects Woe puts on himself
Attunement:

-Omnivision, allowing Woe awareness of his immediate surroundings, which while not the same as sight is almost as good.

Abrogation:

-A replicative field around his immediate personal space.
-Exception for Prae’s Attunement technique of static placed upon Woe, which Woe will of course accept.
chain Mesh bull Whip
Condition: New
Quality: Good
Material: Steel and Leather.

Description: A good bullwhip made of steel mesh. The bullwhip’s handle is roughly six inches in length, its grip wrapped in leather and shaped in imperial gladius style. The coil of the mesh whip is four feet in length, consisting of sharpened and barbed chain links of steel and external rivets of steel extending into an ever-narrowing taper up until the final foot of length, which is a very thin length of chain weighted for cracking.
TIER 6 ARMOR
Condition: Slightly used and battleworn.
Quality: Masterwork
Material: Grave Gold

Description: The metal of the armor itself was of a golden color, only having begun to earn its blood marks. The cloth that accompanied the brigandine pieces of armor were black.

As for its construction, the suit began with a maile coif and half-mask that covered Woe's upper face. The chain portios of the coif had thick, silken underpadding. The mask molded in the likeness of a demon's eyes, with a few other motifs besides. From the coif, a mantle of maile and silken padded cloth covered his neck and shoulders. Polished scale lamellar covers his chest, in a cuirass. From the cuirass, a pair of maile and padded silk sleeves ended in protective vambraces.

A half-skirt of lamellar scale protected his legs, their scales swept around in Imperial style. A girdle of gravegold protected his midsection. Around the legs, a pair of chain leggings with black silk underpadding. Finally, a pair of sabatons that protected his feet.

Re: The Rise of Rhaum; The Fall of Rharne.

I never sign up for this. What the fuck is that? Fire? Redhead? Related to the Eternal Flame perhaps? Are they children of the Eternal Flame? What the hell even am I doing here? The others seem well prepared to fight the adversaries and they are fucking beasts on the battlefield. Nox thought to himself.

The weaklings huh? Guess he talking about me or I’m not even considered weak but a mere speck of dust in front of all them, waiting for my embers to be snuffed out at a moment’s notice.

You got two choices, die foolishly or die painfully. Lyn reminded him

Yeah, I got that, worst comes to worst it’s the end of the line right? Nox replied.

Snap out of it then! You’re a fucking target standing still like that. Stop drawing those fucking runes, you’re a sitting duck! Lyn’s words echoed in his head.

Nox stopped drawing the runes and decide to focus on the battle in front of him, though he knew that he couldn’t do much. He began running backward to keep a distance between himself and those fighting though deep down he knew that it was useless against people who could move in a blink of an eye. But at least he has to try.

Not gonna shoot at the target since at this distance my aim’s bollocks. Don’t want friendly fire and them thinking that I’m in cahoots with the enemy. Well, there’s always the coward’s way out, self-immolation. At least I’ll finally have rest that way. Nox weighed his options as he carefully made his way to keep out of the line of sight and hoping that the enemy will be too focused on the other people present there.

Re: The Rise of Rhaum; The Fall of Rharne.

Image

None of them would ever understand the level of planning that had gone into this moment. The level of preparation, the sacrifices. They had no right, none, to stand there as cock-sure. Prancing about with their heads full of hope and optimism.

Vega, especially, as she suddenly launched into a barrage of sweeps and strikes focused on striking wherever they could - her speed, accuracy, and understanding of tactical positioning allowing her to meet a more than equal match with Rhaum's evasive techniques and counter-attacks. After all, Vega was no stranger to unarmed combat herself. Rhaum's speed, strength and accuracy could not make up for the rather underwhelming skills he held, when compared to her swordsmanship. He could evade one strike, perhaps even a few, but when it came to the sheer madness of a rapid combination of precision strikes, it was everything his enhanced body could do to avoid being outright skewered. A dive undercutting his arm caught a shallow wound between two ribs; that was when she could see that the wounds weren't just being seared by the touch of her Spiritborn Weapon, but searing and bubbling on the inside thanks to Rhaum's own embrace of flames.

Then Varlum joined too, and in response, he showed the first and only moment of slight panic; Rhaum whispered something frantically in an unknown language that Vega's necklace immediately translated; "Strife and conflict, thine visions part, grant me your soul, grant me your heart," and a new aura surged to overlap the flames - a double-embrace that soon entwined like a mantle upon his shoulders. Snaps of teeth and shearing claws, swords swinging in blurs... their speed, each enhanced several times over, almost too much to follow with a naked eye, and strength in each swing to sever each in two.

And yet they were still locked in a stalemate. And they were two, entwined in arms and flowing together seamlessly. He was only one, lashing out again and again with hands, legs, elbows and knees. His eyes darted over and over to Varlum, confusion in them that the Ithecal could even withstand the heat of his Embrace; caught out despite all the preparations that he'd made with one slight, one almost insignificant miscalculation. He fought for just enough room to shout one word, one clear command across the empty void they battled within, and still it came out hoarse and shaky. "ICARUS!"

But the Purveyor had his own issues.

The close-ranged fighters had, almost immediately, sought out Rhaum to take the fight straight to him, predictably. Vega had rushed in without a second thought and left the others to pick up the pieces and cover her back. Just a few stones should have dispatched the mages quite easily, and yet their own Rupturer caught on far too quick for his liking and sent the stone fizzling into the distance, strained without the supply of mage ether to uphold its chain reaction. It was a setback, there could be no doubt; Icarus' upper lip curled in distaste at the thought of dragging this fight out longer than absolutely necessary, since there was still the matter of escaping to handle. Yet perhaps if he threw just a few extra stones, he could--

Vivian's hare-brained scheme threw him off. Mostly due to the fact that it was something so... well, unconventional. He'd almost give credit, if not for the irate fury that blossomed in the brief moments before understanding what she'd done, and when it struck him in the side, pushing him back and knocking the air from his lungs at the same moment as the sword pierced the left side of his chest and ran him through, until its tip pierced the other side. The Spiritborn weapon seared the wound all the way through with a sharp burning, mixing with the lightning of her active Conduit powers to strike him with condensed lightning. Blood trickled from his mouth, coughed through the pierced lung. However, trying to pull the sword that had now pressed deep into his flesh, or drive it deeper still, did nothing now. Not as he used the hand still gripping the remaining stones - all of them, at once - to crush them together until they shattered.

Quite a few things happened at once, after that. Vivian's speed made sure that she reached him first, but Praetorum and Woe's charges were right behind with their own strikes ready to tear him asunder. He knew Praetorum held no teleportation magic, they'd worked extensively to discover those that did - even if Balthazar had used it, there should have been a sound! But there was nothing. No warning at all, and then the hulking Ithecal stood behind him, ready to hurl a shield against his back and impale him even deeper into Vivian's sword. Woe, too, whip outstretched and ready to flay his bared skin from its bones. Neither of them would get the chance. From beneath Icarus' robes suddenly billowed a huge swathe of flame - different from Rhaum's in some indistinct fashion, but most certainly lacking in the same intensity and uncanny danger that it presented - and then that fire shifted, flames swirling and flapping like wings, until it manifested into a Swarm of fire-engulfed ravens swirling from the empty robes that Praetorum's shield harmlessly smacked against.

Balthaza'rs lightning strike was answered by a scream, catching a bird mid-flight and knocking it stone-dead. Woe's whip missed, and yet did not; its length snagging a bird mid-emergence and wrapping instead around it as it struggled to escape, causing the flame-spitting apparition to tumble to the floor in a fit of alien squawking and shuffling to break free.

Rhaum grit his teeth and bore down hard enough that it looked like he might break his own jaw and sucked air through his teeth. This wasn't where he died. Not here. Not yet.

Re: The Rise of Rhaum; The Fall of Rharne.

In the instant before his shield connected, Prae saw Icarus's robes shift.

And then there was fire, flaring outwards as the Lotharro's robes fluttered—and then birds, ravens with flaming feathers emerging from the cloth, scattering this way and that.

A useful technique—it was much harder to get rid of many smaller things than it was to kill one large thing—did Icarus intend to escape, or to attack? Perhaps he meant to aid his companion, who seemed to be struggling under Vega and Varlum's combined assault. Well, whatever he wanted, it was no matter.

Prae wouldn't allow him to have his way.

Balthazar and Woe had each taken out one of the birds, but it didn't seem to have affected the others, which suggested to Prae that Icarus didn't need all of them to survive or reform. In fact, the decision to take this form at all told Prae that Icarus was willing to lose a few ravens—in a situation like this, surrounded by enemies, it would have been the height of foolishness to put himself into a situation where his enemies could destroy or disable him by simply picking off one or two ravens out of the flock.

Two possibilities came to mind: first, that there was only one raven in the group that truly mattered and the others were distractions, or two, that Icarus only needed a certain number of ravens to survive. Either ways, the solution was the same.

Take down as many of the ravens as possible in one fell swoop. Not an easy task if they were given the chance to spread out, but...

Icarus, Prae thought to himself, had made a mistake in choosing a flying form. Because for all that Prae favored fire, earth and water in his battles—

It was air that was his first kin, his closest companion.

And it was air who now answered his call, air who began to gust around the flock of birds as they attempted to fly, air that turned from a light breeze into a furious, circling gale in a matter of trills. Round and round and round the wind blew, seizing each raven and dragging them back towards each other, pulling the entire swarm into a swirling ball of furious wind that shrank and shrank and shrank, as small as Prae could manage while still keeping them all trapped.

Prae did not have the time or energy to spare on a shout, but he didn't need to. Bonded as they all were, a quick glance at Balthazar was all that was needed.

Your turn.
