Saun 14, Arc 721
On the 14th of Saun, Devin Thorn, High Priest of Delroth, medical genius in progress and unexpected Baron (He’d just wanted Alyssia to have the job, but Saoire had given him one third of it!) left his very luxurious room with a spring in his step and a wide smile on his face because he was just so excited to finally see the newest addition to Smooglenuff Manor finished. From now on, there would not only be a wall around the manor; there would also be a guard house next to the gate, and the Barony would be even better protected against bandits and other unlawful elements, provided that such people existed on Faldrass.
Since this was a very special occasion, the young Mortalborn had decided to wear very special clothes. He had put his Duplicity Suit on – and made it look like a material that was not unlike black velvet and that shimmered slightly when the sunlight touchedt it. Underneath was a very fine and slightly frilly white silk shirt, and he wore black leather boots with a small heel that ended a little below his knees. Of course, he had also put shiny accessories in his hair and wore shiny rings, to match his very shiny and absolutely stylish outfit.
In his hands was a small box wrapped with green paper, with a bright yellow bow on it. It contained a gift because Marvin, the mouse Cadouri that oversaw the various building projects around the manor and the barony really deserved one for his great job in his opinion. He couldn’t wait to see the look on his face, and he had no doubt that he’d love it!
His walk took him down the stairs and into the entrance hall where he stopped for a moment in order to admire his surroundings. A couple of seasons had passed, and he still couldn’t believe his luck sometimes. He’d always, always wanted to be someone rich and famous, and now he was finally someone rich and famous, and it was absolutely awesome. He really loved his new home with its expensive marble floors, its stained-glass windows and crystal chandeliers, and all that beautiful and very luxurious furniture.
Of course, he decided, the best part about the manor was the purple roof. Purple was his favourite color!
He nodded at a maid that was just dusting off a vase before he opened the very large and imposing wooden entrance door and finally stepped outside, taking a deep breath as he did so. A moment later, he was already walking down the path to the gate that was framed by a lot of flowerbeds. He bent down in front of one of them in order to smell the flowers – they smelled very sweet and pleasant, he noticed – and then he walked on.
Finally, Devin reached the large cast-iron gate. He stopped there for a moment, raised a hand in order to shield his eyes against the bright Saun sunlight and took in his surroundings once more before he waved – he could already see Marvin. The brown mouse Cadouri was sitting on a simple wooden bench in front of the new guard house that looked just great and waiting for him. He couldn’t wait to talk to him and take a look inside!
