92nd Ashan 718
She'd bought a new dress, a full outfit and they'd come back to the Wanderlust the night before. A break or so ago, Arlo had gone to check on his stepfather, Jonas and the two of them were going to get ready together; Vega had told him to take his time, she wanted some space to get ready. Besides, there was the tradition of the men-folk sharing a drink together and it being unlucky for any of the women to know. Everyone did know, she told him, but no one spoke about it. She was quicker at getting herself to the point of thinking she was ready to step outside than she had been that first time, she thought and she smiled as she looked at the mirror. It wasn't her she was smiling at, though, it was him. Back in through the door, bursting in like a whirlwind as always, Vega's eyes met his in the mirror and she felt so much more than she could say. She was wearing a long red dress with a lower neckline than she normally wore and small details of lace on it. It was pulled in tight at the waist and she'd bought underwear to make sure that her curves, such as they were, were emphasised to the fullest. Her hair was piled up and a decorative comb nestled back there, glittering slightly.
"No brace. I can move the way they said I have to, for it to come off," the last time she'd worn make up had been the date they'd shared at Cally's, but she was wearing it now. "An' I have been able to for three trials. So it's not a fluke, an' yes I'm sure." Turning to look at him, she smiled. "You look good enough to stay here with all trial long. An' tomorrow, too." She walked to him and her eyes told the depth of her emotions. "No brace. Jus' these," lifting her skirt, just a little, she revealed high heeled shoes and silk stockings. "It doesn't hurt, Arlo. Nowhere hurts." It had been so long since she'd been able to say that, she wasn't sure why she hadn't said it constantly before that night in Cylus.
Placing her hands in his, Vega looked up at him and touched her nose to his. "I love you. Thanks for savin' my life." The mark of Nalos, her "holy freckle" as she called it, glowed brightly and there were many more than one freckle there now. "When all I felt was pain, you were there with your arms around me, pickin' me up and gettin' me out of there. An' then, you.." she stopped and shook her head, her eyes glistening with emotion. "you know what, Arlo Creede? I love you is enough. Stop goin' on about it." Her smile was soft and she squeezed his hands. "I bought you a present. I was gonna make up a tradition about it that if someone buys you a gift on someone else's weddin' trial, but then I couldn't think of the what if that didn't impact me, too.." Her grin was wicked as she tugged him over to their bed. "I bought you this, but I don't think it's gonna fit you, so I'll wear it," the item in question was a nightgown of black satin and lace with a ribbon detail. It was unlikely that she'd bought it to keep her warm. But then she leaned down and pulled a box from under the bed. "That's for you."
In the box was a shortbow, made for him to his specification exactly. It didn't look fancy, there was no scrollwork or carving or any such fussy thing, but it was beautiful. She watched him, gauging his reaction and she smiled in pleasure when she saw his face. Of course, she'd been quite happy at his reaction to what she was currently wearing and the nightgown too. But this was something else, "For all the adventures we've yet to have, Arlo Creede. Side by side. So. Wanna go watch people ruin their lives?"
