8th of Ymiden, 720th Arc
Early afternoon
Griseous Wing/Institute of Arcana
It seemed like every trial Viden turned into more and more of a drippy, melty, mud covered icicle. The increase in temperature at the beginning of the season was causing a lot of the top layer of the snow and ice that almost permanently covered Viden to melt. The change in weather brought with it a lot of sick people as well, especially among visitors who spent their first Ymiden in Viden. Tucked away deeply inside his cloak, Sin hiked up the slippery, muddy road leading to the Academy's main building. You'd think that for all their intelligence, the Eidisi would have thought to place their students' beds closer to their classrooms and library but apparently not. At this time of the trial, the city was quite busy, with lots of people all moving along the street, each one for their own business. Sin's business today was his first class on Graft, which he was actually looking forward to. He hoped it would live up to the reputation it had build up in his own head.
Unlike the outside, the Academy's main building was much quieter with most of the students either in classes or in the library. A few groups and individuals still occupied the large open space with several of them lining up in front of the Academy Registry. It would probably be like this for several trials to come but then again, it was the Academy's own fault for not having a set deadline for student sign ups each season. Inside the building, Sin was capable of releasing the tight grip he had on his cloak and simply let it flow around him. He immediately shivered as he did but he ignored it, simply toughening it out. The doors to the Prime Atheneum swung wide open, almost hitting him in the face as several Eidisi came streaming out. One of them bumped into Sin, who had expected the man to move aside instead, but got nothing but a quick glance in his direction as an apology. Once the group of students had passed through, Sin walked into the lower level of the library.
As soon as Sintih entered through the large double doors, his focus moved upward to the third floor balconies on the opposite side of the building. He felt the eyes of a few people on him for the few trills it took him to focus on the space just behind the balustrade and then he was there, preceded by a soft, musical chime announcing his arrival. It was an odd system the Academy had set up. On the one hand they forbade the teaching of magic in any sort of practical fashion but taught it theoretically at an incredibly high level while at the same time there were no rules allowing or forbidding the use or self-study of practical magic. Sin walked down an aisle, in between two seemingly endless shelves of books about magic and any other sort of knowledge the Academy deemed important or special. One set of double doors later, Sin stood in the Institute of Magic, waiting for his teacher to arrive.
