Melrath Immortals and Legends
The people of Melrath are almost wholly against Immortal worship. While they do not forbid it, many of the local citizenry look down upon the practice. This is due to the history of their founders, that Melrath place very little stock in the capability of the Divine and their ability to make wise and prudent decisions. After all it was because of feuding Immortals that their ancestors ran in fear from the earthquakes and tidal waves plaguing the early villages that would later found Ne’haer.
The population of Melrath place a great deal of value in personal skill. Those that display passion and ambition are celebrated. Young Melrathi are often pushed to excel in their chosen fields so that they can better support and protect their fellow countrymen. Magic is considered a gift that only a chosen few have the resolve to wield, so it is treated with a mixture of wariness and respect.
Temples and shrines are few and far between within the settlements across the country. Raelia does contain one temple to Audrae due to a sizable population of Naerikk living within its walls. Immortals who are typically peaceful are regarded with respect even if the Melrathi don't pray to them. Xiur, Ashan, Treid, Yvithia, and Ziell are the most favorably regarded of the various gods. There are sometimes small shrines for these Immortals found tucked away in cities and towns of Melrath though most altars are kept within the confines of a home, rather than out for public viewing.
Aside from Immortals there are many local legends that are told throughout the area. The Silverhand rangers of the Duskwood often tell tales and leave gifts for the Fenris, a monstrous dire wolf that allegedly roams the dark forests that they protect. The people of the Venmarri Township speak of vengeful spirits that dwell in the depths of the Castillia River and within the distant Azurelight Village there are myths of ghosts that wall the water's edge in the night.
There are many local pieces of folklore that tell of intelligent and nigh godlike creatures that stalk the darkest places of Melrath. Massive wolves, falcons and even serpents that slink through the rocky crags of Felwind Strait.
