Organization: The Guild of Blood in Yaralon

Bio: The mage is a mid-ranking chandler in Blood Guild of Yaralon, a journeyman under the supervision of a master, with his own apprentices to teach. His rise through the ranks of his master's business and within the city itself was nothing short of meteoric. Not the least for the fact that he lacked a talent with weapons and yet was able to survive with just a token sidearm on his belt. He's gotten by through a mixture of tricks, traps and subtle use of both the environment and his magic to win Spear Duels. For Hammer Duels he's relied on his more than adequate skills as a candlemaker.

He has set up a specific gauntlet in a portion of the sewers in the lower east side of Yaralon. There he's carefully placed all manner of traps to catch unwary robbers, ne'erdowells, spies, and rivals that try and chase him down for a duel. He is more than a little paranoid, evidently, based on his setting up of this network of traps. This space of sewer and alleys is not far from his master's Chandler business and his own dormitory.

He keeps his magical abilities well under wraps, if only to keep the risk to himself to a minimum.

As for his impact on the Blood Guild, he has designs to rise to the level of master, hopefully supplanting his master to take what is his. His sudden rise to journeyman has created some friction between himself and his fellow chandlers. Yet his subterfuge and machinations have seen to it that nobody has surpassed his pace of advancement. Talented underlings are weeded out under his watch, while the less talented are elevated so as to pose no challenge to Aoth. In the same stroke, he damages the master's reputation with their shoddy goods so that he stands a better chance of making a case to depose him in the future. In time, he sees himself as a great mover and shaker, a guild master of the Blood Guild, with designs on the entire city of Yaralon.

The reason he took on Alora as a pupil is because he needs a catspaw, somebody who can enforce his will with strength and brute force. Her initiation was a reluctant one, though ultimately willing. He forced her into a geas with him after awakening her spark. Then willed away the memories of their meeting so that she would have no recollection of him. He did this with a combination of conventional manipulation as well as Empathy. He left false memories in their wake, to where she believed that a slave from Augiery, by the same name and appearance, had been her teacher. That he'd been put to death in the most cruel way. This served the dual purpose of severing her ties of loyalty to her city of origin, as well as her family, while instilling a sense of comradery with Aoth. Not that he required that, but supposed it might as well lay there in secret, for the time being. These memories are sustained not only by magical suggestion, but also through an elaborate bit of play acting on the part of Aoth. When he put her 'under' so to speak, he set scenes that blended with the false memories. All the while he kept her half-conscious through his will-subverting magics

Appearance: The Chandler appears to be a man of average height and build. His deep red hair is shaven, only his eyebrows remain, while his face is oddly devoid of character. (Picture Odo from Star Trek DS9). He often wears voluminous robes and hoods, that are practical and minimalist in design.

Relationship with Alora: Aoth's designs on Alora are to secretly guide her to becoming his catspaw in the city of Yaralon. He was the one that instilled through a combination of conventional methods and empathy magics, a desire for her to create a mercenary company. Nearly every detail, right down to the name of the company at the instant that he shared the spark with her, and cast his geas.

He implanted false memories of a slave by his own name in the city of Augiery, concocting a story that she was betrayed by her own family. That she was forced, after an incident of arson, to consume the flesh of her 'lover'. That her family had forced self-immolation by the mage-warriors of Augiery's Military.

He plans to use her to climb Yaralon's ladder, and is currently formulating a plan to reveal himself to her when she's ready to advance in her abilities. In the meantime, she has a long leash to pursue both her own interests, as well as those that support Aoth's agenda. In time he has plans to grow their relationship beyond that of mere enforcer/secret master.

Mage Mentor Note: Aoth Shem is the Mage Mentor of Alora, and is available in Yaralon. If you wish to share him as a Mage Mentor, contact a Yaralon mod.
