Death is a mystery for many. It is known that in death, the twins Pre and Pier judge the soul. Following that judgment, Vri guides the soul to an unknown place within Emea. Some refuse to be brought to this unknown sanctuary for souls, and leave Vri, to run wild within the Beneath as Ghosts.

But who have died are not given such a luxury. Rarely do the twins arrive before the Revealed Mage when they die. Rarely do any of the Immortals arrive, the few that do were especially close with the Revealed, more so than nearly any other mortal. Some of the Immortals do not show out of fear, others out of disgust and disdain, others still for honor and tradition, so that the other Immortals do not think them aligned with such beasts.

A Revealed Mage does not become a true Ghost, but rather an Emean Being, called among the very few who know of their existence as The Released. Upon mortal death, the Revealed Mage finds themselves in the Untold, a section of Emea. The Revealed Mage has become an even greater being than when alive, for they are no longer bound to the mortal realm. The intertwining of the Spark and mage is destined for existence in Emea.

The Released are not affected by Emean Corruption. And without the mortal body, they find that their magic works in stronger, more fantastical ways within Emea, within fractures, and while in close proximity to Grand and Major fractures. While away from Emea and these powerful fractures though, they are merely on par with the strength of a standard Revealed Mage. However, the mortal world and the Beneath, and in theory, any other world and existence that is not Emea, will corrupt the Released.

The Released can only enter the mortal world through fractures or through the use of Dreamwalking. But mere existence in the mortal world burns them, their very being. The mortal body protected their Spark from such pain while alive, but now it is torture. Only the close proximity to Emea can ease the pain. Being close to Major Fractures will reduce it, whereas being close to Grand Fractures will halt it entirely, just as if they were in Emea itself.

The Released are physical, able to interact with the mortal world just as any living being might. Many aspects of their magic are still available, though others are lost, and this differs from mage to mage. The Released do not age, but they are not immune to harm. Just as they can affect the world, the world can affect them back, and often in ways it couldn't while mortal.

The Released are made up of solidified ether, given shape by the Spark. This makes the Released a target for Flayers, Arcanavores, Spirits and Ghosts and other beings able to consume Ether. And while the Released is the highest form of being the Spark can hope to achieve, it is not the true apex predator. But they are certainly able to fight against the most powerful of entities, mortal, spirit, and Immortal alike.

Each individual type of Released has its own unique forms and perks, as well as drawbacks.
