Seriously, bounty hunting isn't always glamorous, but it pays well. In this case, it pays in the way of extra equipment. Throughout the hot cycle, the city of Rharne has been culling the population of sewer rats. They're specifically concerned about rumors of plague-ridden rats that bear a sickness which increases their aggression.
