Storyteller Team

A Storyteller's main focus is on what the name suggestions: the story. Storytellers are very important to the functionality of Standing Trials and the overall plotline driving the site. These moderators mostly handle city moderation and structure, building and updating lore, calendars, locations, approving jobs and wage requests, approving city development requests and sponsoring, planning, and completing moderated threads. They review threads, plan and lead global plotlines, participate in Immortal meetups with characters, and organize city events. Another responsibility of a Storyteller is to maintain player interest. Storytellers play one of the most critical roles as they are the energy that inspires players to write and remain with us.

As Storytellers progress in seniority, more responsibilities become accessible should you wish to apply for them. These responsibilities are purely at request and come with the expectation that you will commit to handling and/or finishing them. If you’re not able to, then after a maximum of a month’s time, your duties will be evaluated by your Team Lead.

Below are the Storyteller ranks. These ranks are based solely off of seniority. When a moderator has reached their ‘rank up day' please remember to apply to the support forum if you’re interested in ascending to other responsibilities. Please keep in mind that the duties listed below for your rank come second to your character and first to any cross role participation. That means if you have a modded thread that’s waiting for your reply while you’re also developing a blessing with another person, the modded thread comes first.

Applications & Access: These are tasks that you can apply for in the Support Forum to take responsibility of. These are separate from the primary duties of your Storyteller role, but parallel them in many ways.

If you have a question about something not listed in the below information, please contact your Storyteller Team Lead.

Team Leads

Team Leads are individuals who have applied to become a guiding hand among their chosen team, to help train new team members, and to ensure that the actions of their team and their peers follow the guidelines set by the site’s TOU and Prophet Handbook. They look over information to make sure things correlate appropriately, set up meetings and communicate effectively.

Generally, each team will have between 1-3 Team Leads. There is no set number of Team Leads that can run a particular team, but a ‘check and balance’ system is what we ultimately want to accomplish with this.

Responsibilities

  • Team development / plot / guide approvals.
  • Drive direction and priorities for team.
  • Drive completion of “to do” list items and discussions/open questions.
  • Be involved in the selection/interview process for players who are applying for staff and want to be part of your team.
  • Advise the Advocate team when there are gaps that need to be filled on staff (ie. more storytellers are needed & where, etc).
  • Has the final say in decision-making
  • Schedule team discussions to communicate goals, activity, ideas, etc.

City Moderation Between Teams

City development and moderation is definitely possible between teams and is, at times, encouraged based on player/staff activity. Since we’re focusing on an entire world, we need as many hands as are willing.

When it comes to the city development, however, Developers and Advocates may only focus on the city from an OOC perspective if they have Storytellers situated in their area. This includes:

  • Developing locations & lore
  • Approving jobs & wages
  • Creating seasonal calendars, odd jobs, and bounty boards
  • Approving development submissions
  • Structuring and moderating the city from an OOC perspective

It is not required for Advocates or Developers to moderate a city. This is purely a responsibility that is applied for through the Prophet Support Forum.

All cities must have a Storyteller. Regardless of whether a moderator is developing a city by themselves, they are only offered a limited time to construct information (if needed) before they are requested to choose a Storyteller or one is provided to them. At no point should a city be run strictly by one non-Storyteller. This may happen only if we do not have the available staff or activity to see a Storyteller added to an area. If a city does not have a Storyteller, the Advocates or Developers are able to run moderated threads within the city (but are encouraged to find a Storyteller as soon as possible).
