A Guide to Crafting Metal Items
This is a short guide to crafting metal items such as armor, shields, weaponry, and mount armor, without having to make a Wealth Point purchase. You may use this process however many times as you wish, however you *must* complete the thread requirements in order to claim your crafted items.

Step 1: Harvesting Metals
To harvest metal ore IRP (in roleplay), you must write either one or two threads in order to collect enough ore to craft with.
- If you wish to craft a weapon, you must write 1 thread in which you are harvesting ore. After you have completed this thread, assume that you have enough ore to make 1 weapon or set of weapons. See Items Available Per Tier. in the Weapons Section of the Shoppe to determine which weapons come individually or in sets, as well as the different types of weapons available.
- If you wish to craft armor, you must write 2 threads in which you are harvesting ore. After you have completed these threads, assume that you have enough ore to make 1 full set of armor, including 1 shield. See Items Available Per Tier. in the Armor Section of the Shoppe for the different types of armor and shields available.
- If you wish to make mount armor, you must write 2 threads in which you are harvesting ore. After you have completed these threads, assume that you have enough ore to make 1 full set of mount armor. See Items Available Per Tier. in the Mounts Section of the Shoppe for the different types of mounts available.
Please note that metals are categorized into five levels of rarity. These levels include Common, Uncommon, Rare, Very Rare, and Priceless. Very Rare metals cannot be harvested IRP without approval from your City Prophet. Priceless metals cannot be harvested at all and must be requested in the PSF.
Please note as well that certain weapons, namely Seige Weaponry, also require approval from your City Prophet, as stated in the Weapons Section of the Shoppe. You cannot use the metal ore you have harvested to craft Seige Weaponry without permission from your Prophet.
Step 2: Refining Metals
After you have harvested enough metal ore to craft your desired item, you must get the ore refined by a smith. Metal ore is not usable until it has been refined. Getting ore refined doesn't cost Wealth Points. However, you must wait a period of time while the ore is refined into metal.
In general, it will take between one and ten trials to refine ore into metal. The table below represents guidelines as to how long this process might take, depending on the skill of your smith. If you cannot personally smith ore into metal, please locate a PC or NPC smith in your city to smith the ore for you.
| Level of Smithing | Number of Trials |
|---|---|
| Novice | 9 trials |
| Competent | 7 trials |
| Expert | 5 trials |
| Master | 3 trials |
| Grandmaster | 1 trial |
Step 3: Crafting with Metal
Once your ore has been refined into metal, you may then use that metal for crafting armor and shields, weaponry, or mount armor. At this point, the metal may be crafted into items by you personally if you have experience in smithing, or by a PC or NPC smith.
Having your metal crafted into items does not cost Wealth Points, nor is there a period of time that you must wait. However, it does require 1 more thread in which the item is crafted.
After you have completed this final thread, you may add the crafted item to your CS and use it in roleplay.
Other: Purchasing Metals for Crafting
Rather than harvesting ore IRP and having that ore refined, you have the option of purchasing metals using Wealth Points.
To purchase metals for crafting, see Crafting Materials.
