Seriously, bounty hunting isn't always glamorous, but it pays well. In this case, it pays in the way of extra equipment. Throughout the hot cycle, the city of Rharne has been culling the population of sewer rats. They're specifically concerned about rumors of plague-ridden rats that bear a sickness which increases their aggression.
Should Mathias agree to help, they'll grant him the use of a trap-maker's kit and a good bow of his choice. Whichever style (Short, long, composite, recurve, crossbow) of bow he prefers.

A Crack In The Brand (Witchmark) Mathias's witchmark for Transmutation is a jagged silver scar stretching diagonally across his rune of naming. This mark formed when Sylvia's ether missile hit Mathias's rune of naming during his initiation into Transmutation. When Mathias casts transmutation magic his silver scar glows slightly but it does not when he uses Hone.
