General Information

Name of Creation: The Deadset

Creation Type: Artifact / Relic

Brief Notes on the Creation:

History:

The Deadset was created by a Hiladrithi magehunter in the arc 679. When first created, it was meant to seek out any and all types of magic; however, the Deadset was imperfectly made and when presented with its first spell to dowse it became affixed to that sort of magic, which happened to be necromancy. It is said that the Deadset was so imperfectly made that it killed the magehunter who created it, as well as his protege. It is not known why the Deadset was made of bone, nor exactly how it was created.

Physical Description:

A Y-shaped dowsing rod made of many small bits of smooth, white bone sealed together.

Abilities: When attuned to a spell / use of necromantic magic, is able to be used as a dowsing rod to find the source of the necromantic magic, no matter the distance. When in use, the Deadset "seals" itself to the wielder's hand, much like how the bones that compose it are sealed together. Until the source of necromantic magic is located, the Deadset cannot be unsealed, nor can it be stopped from dowsing for the source of necromancy. If the wielder tries to resist the dowsing, they will be pulled along or even dragged by the rod at a good speed.

The Deadset follows the path of necromancy, and thus does not necessarily move in a straight line. It cannot be confounded by Rupturing nor any other magic. It will pull its wielder over any manner of terrain, including open water, without regard to the danger to the wielder. Should the wielder die or fall unconscious while using the rod, it will continue on with them until it locates the source of necromancy.

Other Information:

Necromancers have been delighted by the Deadset for some time, despite its propensity for locating them.
