Many businesses and employees operate outside of the three main industries of Yaralon. These Independents rarely match the success of those with backing, but it also isn't unheard of. An independent gauntlet smith can set his own rules, reap all of his own business. These Independents are not looked down upon in the least bit, as most new businesses start out this way.

However, independent mercenaries are considered lesser to a degree, and the contracts they get are significantly smaller. These might be personal contracts by locals, and are often borderline embarrassing. These contracts might be anything from babysitting, to finding a missing dog, to going out in the wilds to gather a certain material. But again as independents, they are allowed a lot more freedom in what they do. Some independents specialize in breaking the cultural traditions without getting caught. These might be assassins, seductors to lure a person into breaking their marriage vows, slavers, thieves, and other criminal types.
