History: The Yardrae Kitties spawned into existence during the Shadow Beasts raids during Saun 716. During these global attacks, the beasts appeared during sunlit times only. Yaralon was spared this attack, for Saun is the height of the rainy season, and the suns are never seen. But the divine power that caused the shadow beasts to spawn could not be fully prevented. Shadow Beasts were not born, instead, the Yardrae Kitty came to life. They spawned around smaller light sources, lanterns, hearth fires, etc. They quickly became household pets and neighborhood nuisances throughout Yaralon, and spread prodigiously.

Appearance: The Yardrae Kitty is on the smaller size for normal house cats. They are always black in fur. Their eyes come in red, silver, purple, and a rainbow kaleidoscopic coloring called Opal. When in the presence of strong light, shadow tendrils can be seen hovering around their forms.

Habitat: They live only in Yaralon proper, only within the city walls. They have no preference for light or dark shelters, populated or sparse. They live anywhere and everywhere within the city. Many operate as strays, some as personal pets, and others take neighborhoods as their territory.

Lifespan and Development: As these creatures first came into existence in 716, it is unknown how long they can live. Their gestation period is roughly 60 trials. From birth, it takes roughly 1 arc to achieve adulthood.

Diet: Yardrae Kitties are omnivorous and scavengers, as well as small game hunters. Their diets range from the rats and birds they hunt within the city, to stealing food from people's plates, to eating fruits and vegetables at merchant stalls. If a person is able to eat it, odds are the Yardrae Kitty can eat it too.

Temperament: Yardrae Kitties have the same range of temperaments as standard house cats. They can be lovable and cuddly or standoffish and mercurial. There really is no consistency.

Abilities: Yardrae Kitties are able to Shadow Step. This means they can step into a shadow, and reappear in a shadow nearby. It is unclear how they manage this, but they use this ability to travel through the city more easily than normal cats. Attempts have been made to follow one through a shadow, but it simply does not seem to work.

Additionally, their bodies function similarly to Naerikk when they die or have pieces cut off. These pieces, or corpse, dissipate into shadows, leaving no trace. This makes them unable to be used by Necromancers, Grafters, or Becomers.
