Ashara Citadel
Ashara Citadel
Built soon after the construction of Raelia, Ashara Citadel is named after the founder of Melrath, Ashara Veldaris. It was constructed in her name as a means of ensuring that the people of Melrath and especially Raelia would always been well protected from invasion. The Citadel is intended as the last and final line of defense should the military fail to protect the borders of the nation.
As for it’s construction the Citadel is a fortress to be reckoned with. It is made from the same local stone mined from the Melrathi Mountains and is surrounded by walls on four sides that are easily eighty feet in height and eight feet thick. There are two gates, one to the south that faces the main southern road and one to the north that leads over a stone bridge that passes over the Vynmur River and on toward Raelia. It is required that all visitors entering Raelia by way of the land route, enter through Ashara Citadel, although some in the past have attempted to slip through Myrkvior Forest.
Inside the Citadel there is a large well tended central square lined in smooth stone tiles where Sleipnir and their riders are often seen landing and departing on patrols. Here there are well tended gardens along the edge of the walls where Anak associated with plants and other similar life forms seem to pop in and out of existence. There is a large central tower which is where the Citidel gets its name. Known simply as The Citadel, this angular tower stretches easily up for a dozen floors before it’s roof narrows to a pinnacle of bright silver spires. to the right and left are a multitude of neatly arranged barracks along with a large courtyard where there is a spacious kitchen garden beside the enormous cellar and nearby larder. Beside the cellar is a lower stone building with narrow windows that contains the mess hall and kitchens that feed the local soldiers and staff.
The Citadel itself is also heavily staffed with a large contingent of Ragnari Valkyrions with a stable for their famous winged mounts. At least thirty thousand troops are always stationed at the Citadel to ensure that the city is well defended from the south, however the expansive campus has the facilities to house nearly seventy thousand soldiers should the need arise.
