Children of the Dusk
Quick Facts:
Known as servants of Myrkvior these creatures are somehow a blend between both spirit and flesh. They are seen darting through the dark of Myrkvior Forest, hunting at the behest of their mistress. Some believe they were created by the Induk of the Forest as a means to hunting her enemies and protecting her domain. Let me be clear, while they appear much like antlered mortal children, these are in no way human.
Height: No shorter than three feet, and no taller than five feet in height.
Weight: Somehow strangely heavy yet seemingly light on their feet. A Child of the Dusk can feel as though they weigh over 200lbs yet appear as though they shouldn’t weigh over 65lbs.
Location:
Found exclusively in Myrkvior Forest.
Appearance:
These creatures of spirit and seemingly mortal flesh appear much like young children. Normally from the age of six to the age of eighteen. They can be male or female or even have no specific or apparent gender. Their eyes are always large and seem to gleam eerily in the starlight, and their skin is always as pale as the moon. Atop their heads always rests a pair of antlers or horns of some kind. They also possess nails that can grow or look normal at will. This allows a Child of Dusk to instantly grow incredibly sharp nails at will in order to hunt down their prey.
Their teeth appear normal except for their top and bottom canines which are actually very sharp and pointed fangs. They can at first appear quite comely and beautiful however their true nature as hunters of Myrkvior is soon revealed whenever they choose their prey. Fangs and nails elongate and their soft babbling voices turn shrill and screeching. These creatures may speak only a word or two at a time, so their communication with mortals is very limited, however once they have decided to kill they will sound as if they are rabid animals.
As for clothing these creatures are always dressed in an assortment of frayed or rotting rags that are draped over their bodies like robes or gowns. Fireflies seem to follow their footsteps and the shadows of the forest cling to them like cloaks.
Habitat:
The Children of Dusk only appear in Myrkvior Forest and only after sunset. They are denizens of the darkness and will hunt down anyone who threatens Myrkvior’s domain. Those who honor the Induk and pass through with respect for the Dark Mother will find that the Children of Dusk never hunt them.
Diet:
The Children of the Dusk do not appear to require nourishment. However they do partake in the flesh of their kills. Some believe that when you are killed by a Child of the Dusk they not only eat your body but may also feast on your soul. Being killed by one of these creatures will often mean that you cannot become a ghost or be judged by the Twins. (Please consult with a Melrath mod if this issue comes up)
Temperament:
The Children of the Dusk are strange creatures, they do not rightly speak, when they do it’s only a couple words roughly strung together that normally make little sense. They are always ravenous and ferocious toward those who threaten the Forest, however they seem to have a strange and keen interest in protecting innocent children. Due to the Induk Myrkvior’s identity as the Dark Mother it is believed that she and her servants hold children and young in high, if not sacred regard. Mortal children never have to fear these creatures or their mother Myrkvior. In-fact a few tales tell of Children of the Dusk leading lost children home who have stumbled too far into the woodland.
Abilities:
Natural weapons: Claws, fangs. Especially swift and seemingly weightless in movement. They are able to climb trees with unnatural ease and race through the canopy of the forest as if they were naught but a breeze. Children of the Dusk are also nearly silent. The only hint of their presence is the soft murmuring of indecipherable words that they utter to themselves before making a kill.
