Guide To Creating A Mortal Born

Mortal Born are beings that are born from a Mortal/Immortal pairing. They harness divine energy just like an Immortal does and they are just as weak, but just as adaptive as a Mortal is. They are not well liked in the Immortal realm, however, due to the war waging on between the different deities. Mortal Born are looked down upon as some Immortals find them disgraceful and of tainted blood. Though some Immortals love them as any parent would their child. But not all deities are willing to step in and save that child's life, should the situation ever present itself.

Requirements for your First Mortalborn

If you're new to the site, unfortunately, you are not qualified to run a mortal born character. These characters are special, not only because of the close interaction they may have with their Immortal parent, but because of the divine power they wield. Once you've met the requirements below, you may apply for a mortal born character. <

  • You must actively roleplay on the forum for six months in real life.

  • In this time, your character must acquire a blessing, a curse, a business, or completed a group battle/event

  • OR

  • You must have a Staff Account/Contributed to the development of Standing Trials as a player in some way, whether by developing NPCs, Locations, Creatures, Flora & Fauna, etc.

  • You must not have any prior warnings from the staff relating to cheating, plagiarizing, harassment, or anything that goes against Standing Trials TOU.

  • You MUST be able to keep your Mortalborn active. Any Mortalborn PC that has gone three months without activity, without a good reason given by the player, will become an NPC.

Submitting a Mortal Born Application

Once these requirements have been met, you may move onto submitting your request to play a Mortal Born.

For A New Character

  1. Firstly, do not submit the request on a character that is already active in the world.

  2. Create a new account which will be your mortal born

  3. Submit the request to the Prophet Support Forum on the new account.

  4. Once you have approval from the PSF, create the CS and put it up for approval as per any other PC

For An Existing Character

  1. Submit the request to the Prophet Support Forum on the existing account.

  2. Once you have approval from the PSF, you may want to work with your local Prophet to determine how your PC discovers their heritage

  3. Ensure your CS is updated.

Another Mortalborn?

So long as the rules below are followed a player can have up to four Mortalborn in their time on Standing Trials. Once a Mortalborn has been made that takes up one of the four slots, even if they retire or die. All of the rules apply below for each new Mortalborn, either needing six months of activity on your prior Mortalborn or six months of activity on the PC you wish to convert over. Normal application rules apply.

  • In creating a 2nd, new Mortalborn, you must have actively and consistently roleplayed your PCs for at least the last 6 months from the date you are applying for your 2nd, new Mortalborn. Additionally, these 6 months of activity must come after the date your first Mortalborn was deemed approved. These dates will be checked at the very beginning of the Mortalborn approval process. If the dates are not met, the ticket will be closed and moved to Limbo. This rule also applies for the 3rd and 4th Mortalborn.
  • In creating a 2nd Mortalborn, through discovering that an existing PC is said Mortalborn, that particular PC must have been actively and consistently roleplayed for at least the last 6 months from the date you are applying for your 2nd Mortalborn. Additionally, these 6 months of activity must come after the date your first Mortalborn was deemed approved. These dates will be checked at the very beginning of the Mortalborn approval process. If the dates are not met, the ticket will be closed and moved to Limbo. Additionally, if this 2nd Mortalborn was discovered IC, you must also follow the rules below in the section titled 'Discovering You Are A MB IC'. These rules also apply for the 3rd and 4th Mortalborn.
  • You must not have accrued any warnings from the staff relating to cheating, plagiarizing, harassment, or anything that goes against Standing Trials TOU.

Once these requirements have been met, you may move onto submitting your request to play a Mortal Born. The process for submitting another Mortalborn is exactly the same as for the first. Do not submit the request on a character that is already active in the world, unless it is the IC discovery of being a Mortalborn. Create a new account which will be your mortal born, then submit the request to the Prophet Support Forum on the new account.

Information

It should be noted that not every Immortal will have Mortal Born. Faldrun will very rarely even consider touching a human in such a way so anyone who would request creating a Mortal Born with that particular parent will have to find a compelling story to make it work. Read up on the Immortals. It's pretty obvious based on their stance in the war whether or not they'll make babies with humans. If you're unsure, just ask the staff. They'll be more than happy to help.

Perception

Mortal Born are perceived in many different ways by mortals; some are frightened by them, others are intrigued while some individuals, namely the Immortals, find them to be abominations of the world. They are conceived and carried for a total of 9 months or 4 and a half seasons, just as any other human would be, whether mortal or Immortal. Being part mortal, they age, learn, and retain illness and disease just as a human would. However, they are born with gifts that could be their undoing should they choose to use them.

Mortal Born Abilities

Mortal Born have two options when it comes to their abilities. They can choose to use them or they may choose to preserve them. If they choose to use and develop their abilities, they will age faster thus, die faster than a human but they will be able to learn more about their gifts and possibly gain the abilities to give marks to humans. If they choose to preserve their abilities, they will live for centuries on end but they will be just as susceptible to injury and sickness as a human would be.

All races may produce Mortal Born and for those seeking to find middle ground between staying alive and using their gifts must consider their choices carefully. Moseke, being the Immortal of Life, will provide to those who have earned her healing power. Vri, being the bringer of Death, will allow more time to those who have gained his favor. There are many options to choose, however, all require a great deal of work and commitment.

If you have a question, ask in the Q & A forum. Thanks!

Submitting The Request

There is a template for completing your Mortal Born Request in the PSF

Before Submitting The Request

Do your research. Ask questions. Is this the kind of character you want to play or will something else suit your ambitions? Once you figured that out, follow the steps below:

The Request

  • List all of your active characters and staff account if you have one.

  • Provide a synopsis of your character's background information and a general idea of what you want to do with them. This doesn't have to be extremely detailed, but please don't submit something like... “I want to sail around as a pirate.” Obviously, this will not get approved.

  • Submit an NPC form of your character's mortal parent.

  • Submit a story on how your character's mortal parent met the Immortal. This story should be from the mortal's perspective and should detail some kind of event, action, or traits that caught the interest of the Immortal. If you're confused, please take a look at the other Mortal Born Character Sheets that have been approved both in the PSF and in the Character Sheet forum

  • List the domains your Mortal Born will control. The Domains can only be between 1-3. Often times, the Mortal Born's domains of power will parallel their Immortal Parent's domains. For example, Zanik is the Immortal of Strength, Seduction, and Music. His mortal born child might have domains of Fertility and Singing. However, like humans, there are always unique or bad apples in the bunch. Meaning that your Mortal Born's domains can be different than that of their Immortal parent.

  • The appearance of your Mortal Born should reflect their Immortal parent's closely.

  • List whether you will be taking the 25 mortal born racial bonus to any 1 skill (that has no points in it currently) OR if you will create three abilities/powers for your Mortal Born's Domains instead. These abilities are like the ones found in blessings and curses, however, they are designed by you specifically for your character. Keep in mind that if you design your own abilities, they MUST include drawbacks.

  • The 25 racial bonus points cannot be dropped into magic skills.

  • Mortalborns may have the same domains as other Mortalborns. They may NOT have the same domains as Immortals.

Make sure to submit this information to the Prophet Support Forum. There is a template there, <LINK> Once the information has been approved, you may then begin working on your Character Sheet. Make sure to include in your character sheet:

  1. A link to the approved request somewhere at the top of your sheet.

  2. The story you created about how your character's mortal parent met their Immortal parent.

  3. The NPC information for your character's mortal parent.

  4. Just like Mortal Born may take their RB in Any Skill, they may take Any Skill as their Fast Track Skill. They always get a Fast Track Skill, regardless of whether they take the Racial Bonus of 25 points OR the three abilities.

  5. Mortal Born may start with 10 Skill Knowledges instead of the standard 5.
