Introduction
PEG: Taken from g-doc:
- Harvesters are unique to every Aberrant as they are created from the soul of the mage themselves.
- Harvester Mage Fusion
- Dark lightning pew pew
- Dorian Grey meets The Emperor meets Snow White Witch.
- The Harvester is no longer an Emean being, it is the worst parts of the mage puppeteered by the Spark itself.
- We're not having it external manifestation - we're going with (it's all very big in the head right now) a sort of Dorian Grey sort of thing - you sell your soul to the Spark, the Harvester WANTS to be separate, but the mage feeds on it being part of him/ her. So, while they're together, the mage is beautiful / sparkly vampire - but when separate, the Harvester gets stronger and stronger as the mage becomes more and more husk etc.
- We want it to be TRUE evil magic. We don't have one /PEG
PEG: Aberration is a magic which is the antithesis of life. Aberrants drain life energy, known to them as Cruxis and they use it to feed their Spark and their magic. From the moment of Initiation, the Spark drives the mage to feed on life energies, leaving its victims decayed husks. The same is true of the Mage themselves, their very soul feeds the Spark and, as the mage grows in power they have a correlating loss of soul. This means that an Aberrant mage quickly becomes a husk: gaunt and thin and resembling a walking corpse. Thankfully, or perversely depending on one's point of view, the merging of the Spark and the soul creates a "Harvester" - a projection of the very darkest parts of the mage, puppeteered by the Spark. The stronger the mage gets, the more visible to others the Harvester is - however, they are usually in a state the mage believes is "merged" with a beautiful veneer over the mage's physical form ~ making them appear to be a beautiful example of their race. As the merging of soul and Spark continues, and the mage moves through the levels of power, the Harvester grows stronger and the mage's physical body weaker. [/peg]
The Aberration Spark and Cruxis:
The Spark of the Aberrant is somewhat unique compared to it's cousins across the other domain magics. This Spark has taken its parasitic nature to an entirely new level. Ether alone will no longer sustain the Aberration Spark fully, and it must also take in stolen life energy known as Cruxis. Cruxis is the result of the Aberrant draining the vitality out of a living thing, be they plant, animal, mortal or otherwise. Learning to consume Cruxis is one of the first abilities the Aberrant shall learn as it is necessary for their continued survival. Once consumed the Cruxis is stored within the Spark where it is consumed and turned into potential energy for future use of the magic. Aberrants do indeed consume ether, however they must also equally use Cruxis in tandem with it. This allows them to sustain themselves along with employing a vast array of their incredibly powerful abilities. Some might consider the need for Cruxis as a weakness however it is because their Sparks can employ two sources of energy that Aberrants can be so terrifying to face.
Extended Information
A Note on Harvesters
The Harvester is a manifestation of the darkest part of the mage's soul. When Spark and soul are joined via initiation the Spark immediately latches on to this darkest aspect, seeking to grow in a symbiotic relationship with it. As the symbiosis develops and the mage becomes more powerful, so does more and more of the mage's life energy get sapped into the creation, growth and maintenance of the Harvester. The "usual" state for the two is in this co-joined symbiotic state and, while they are joined like this, the Harvester is used to place a "veneer" over the mage's appearance. Hiding the effects of the slowly drained life-force on the host, the Abberant who is joined with their Harvester is likely to appear young and vibrant, a beautiful or handsome version of their race and seemingly the very epitome of health.
As the mage progresses in their magic, the Harvester is able to manifest outside the mage. This is, of necessity, draining on the mage and Harvester both - and the level of 'manifestation' changes at different levels. However, while separated, the mage no longer has the veneer of the Harvester and is seen as they truly are.
It is worth noting that the natural state for the Harvester is to be joined with the mage, slowly devouring the very life of it's host.
